A vent. A rant. This game took the swag out of swagger. Team was flat, sluggish and worst of all SOFT. This loss had nothing to do with play calling, or strategy. It was simply an ass whipping on the most basic, elemental level. Painful to watch... Our defensive line was pushed around, overwhelmed by a much tougher Merrimack line. Where was the pass rush? Arm tackles by out of position HC defenders were easily broken by much stronger Merrimack ball carriers. How many times was a Merrimack runner hit but carried the weaker overmatched HC defenders for more yards. Offensive line was overmatched by a tougher stronger Merrimack line. This game was not about play calling, preparation or the refs. Preparation cannot overcome physical weakness, softness. It all came down to execution, toughness on the field as it always does. A team can't execute anything when they are beat down as HC was today. We were beaten, thrashed "mano a mano" in all phases by a tougher Merrimack. If HC played well and lost that would be one thing. But the way this team lost, their lack of toughness was a Disgrace, an embarrassment. It was an ass wuppin' plain & simple.HC humiliated itself, today. More one-sided losses are sure to follow. OMG Yale is next week.

Congrats to Merrimack.
Man, this one stings. I am still in a daze.
For some reason, I am thinking about the loss we had to Bryant many years ago. Not comparing the two games. It’s apples and oranges. I simply think that was the last time I was this shocked and rattled from a Crusader football game.

It was a beautiful day...no issues really with tailgating, vaccine checks, beer lines etc...just the product on the field stunk to high heaven.

Congrats to Merrimack their players and fans. They played better then us in all 3 phases.
That blocked punt that they recovered really hurt us. Gave them 7 before the half.
We missed Oliver and his blocking but fun to be at a game again. Some students even went.
It’s a letdown but it’s a long season. On to Yale.
Go Cross Go ✝️✝️✝️
Ps I know how it feels to be UConn now. With that said Merrimack is better then most people think.

Here’s what I know. Overall HC is pretty good. But that’s it. Pretty good. They win a weak league and go 2-2 or something of the like against OOC.
Our pass defense isn’t good. Said a number of times on this board already. Whitley is supposed to dominate. He doesn’t. In fact he never has and because of a lack of pressure and not great cover DBs our pass coverage will most likely get shredded. They get zero pressure. Sure - against Bucknell and Lehigh who are awful they do, but against OOC they don’t.
Ultimately they are still a (hopefully) 7-4 team. I think they go 2-3 in OOC; or 1-4 and either go 5-1 or 6-0 In PL. I still worry greatly about Fordham because that may be the only way to get to playoffs.
Still a good trajectory because HC is relevant again. But a longggg way to go.
AND - they still have a lot of work to do at QB.
Biggest disappointment- run D. Gave up 200 rushing. That’s HCs strength.

Should have watched the week 1 game tape on Merrimack. Way better football team. Not even close I thought Merrimack wasn't worthy of playing Holy Cross...They were not good enough in many posters minds. Guess they were VERY WRONG! You are one obnoxious poster, so immature. Enjoy your schadenfreude while you can

Yah I’m not on the bandwagon that Merrimack is that good. I just don’t think HC is great right now. They have holes to fix. I personally don’t think Merrimack is going to set too many records this year.
With the supposed talent on this roster HC shouldn’t lose this. But they did.
But I don’t chalk it up to Merrimack being outstanding. HC just isn’t there yet to care of opponents like this. IMO

The frustrating part for me when I said the kid was 33/39 I saw posts say our pass rush would greatly effect that. Why? Why do we think the pass rush is good? It isn’t. It hasn’t been. We get sacks from LBs blitzing - Anderson, Dobbs, Stefanik. There’s no push from the down lineman.

Have not read a post. Just back from Fitton Field. Might be the lowest I have been since Yankee Stadium. That was pathetic. Absolutely pathetic. Merrimack? At home? As one of my favorite coaches would say back in the day: Are you kidding me??!!!!

Very disappointing and surprising that we played so poorly today. We had better play a lot better if we hope to even compete with Yale, Monmouth and Harvard. We may be 1- 4 going into the Patriot schedule. Gosh how bad is the Patriot league !!

Purdue is beating uconn 35-0 at halftime UCONN has been outscored 94-0 in it's 2 games against schools not named College of the Holy Cross. Since we're doing the thing where we brag about predictions and prior posts, safe to say I pretty much "nailed it" when I stated in another thread that UConn wouldn't sniff the jockstrap of the FCS 25, which we should completely fall out of with zero votes this week. Silver lining somebody asked? Only that maybe Yale won't take us seriously and we gain a slight competitive edge? This was one of the most embarrassing losses in program history. First home game in front of fans since 2019 and this happens. Another Patriot League butt-whooping executed by the NEC. And Chesney is no stranger to Merrimack -- he coached against them, and this coach, while at Assumption. Chesney beat Merrimack 56-7 in his last matchup against them with the Greyhounds. Tables sure turned this week.

Very bad. Today Colgate and Lehigh were crushed and Bucknell is down 21-0 v Nova in the 1st (!) QTR.

You guys complain too much. My Bison went off +30 against Villanova. After the 1st quarter, we're only down 28. If we play them even the rest of the way, we cover.

Apparently, one of FADMB's accomplishments, per the outgoing press release announcing the Creighton job, was -- Blossom and his team have revitalized the game experienceOh well. This game also stinks. Affirmative action hires don’t usually go too well. 4-3 I can not let this statement stand, and not challenge your perspective for your opinion on hiring qualifications. Have you read ADMB, curriculum vitae? A Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance, from Northeastern, A Masters in Sports Management from West Virginia University, and an MBA from URI. A three time Academic All American and a three time all conference selection. Prior to HC, he was the senior financial and human resource officer at BC, an ACC, Power 5 institution, a senior administrator at PC, a Big East Institution, in charge of their athletics financial management, and he was an Associate Athletic Director for Finance at Brown University, an Ivy League Institution. I have seen some bizarre comments over the years on Crossports, but your comment has to be one of the more outrageous and biased comments I have read. Both ADNP, with his career at Pac12, Big 10 and Patriot League schools was an excellent hire, so is ADMB who has outstanding qualifications to be an Athletic Director at a D1 school. Your comment provides an insight into the glass ceiling that every person of color faces, no matter how well qualified when they are being interviewed for a leadership position in an organization. Personally, I am ashamed and embarrassed that you are a Holy Cross Alumnus. You have the opportunity to fully explain your comment before I can reconsider my last statement. goholycross.com/staff-directory/marcus-blossom/284

Forget the name on the opponent’s jersey and just say this was a game where we were outplayed by a team that wanted the game more than we did and today execution and lack of adjustments were less than expected.
it also showed future opponents that if you have power runners, and a better than average QB with some time, our defense will be spending a ton of time on the field. Our defense continues to yield way too much space in the passing game and isolates our LBs against speedy WR, which in the end allows for games like today.
We can get where we want to be, but to get there will require a few changes over the next two years. I would like to see Pesansky get some time before we get into league play as he might be the runner and passer we need in the RPO. That said I still believe Sluka and Seiderman can lead the team forward and are able to make us a very strong offfensive team.
We aren’t as good as we hoped we would be at this point, and not as bad as today looked. It is how we move forward and finish that will give us a clearer view of the work that remains before we become a legitimate Top 10-25 FCS team year after year.🏈🏈🏈✝️✝️✝️

Game summary: res ipsa loquitor.
Proposal for revised Covid vaccination seating policy: unvaccinated individuals (or those who can not or decline to prove they are vaccinated) are admitted with an orange wrist band and can only sit in certain remote unoccupied sections (there are plenty of those in Social Distanced Stadium at Fitton Field & after today’s performance it is reasonable to expect there will soon be more of them) & ONLY in seats designated by Prime Numbers.
The battalion of Holy Cross rented “security” guards will be instructed to be extra vigilant in enforcing this section/Prime Number policy, which plays to their strengths. Both sides will go unarmed into this battle of the wits, particularly over what is and is not a Prime Number. This may prove more entertaining than the game. Plus, it may keep many of those Stasi guards out of the vaccinated sections and, if things get heated enough, some of the HC alumni codgers who still persist in dealing with the mind-numbing rules and processes imposed by the HC Athletic Department and its legion of paid employees to try to attend these games, will be able to sneak a water bottle or two into Socially Distanced Stadium at Fitton Field.

UMASS played BC more competitively than we played Merrimack.
Patriot League is turning into a total laughingstock. Pioneer League 2.0. Very sad!

You are never as good as you think you are when you win, nor as bad as you think when you lose. The team was flat. It happens, usually not so early in the season, but these guys have been practicing together almost nonstop since February, with only a couple weeks off. If they stink up the Bowl next week vs Yale, then maybe something is wrong. I don’t think they will.
