The Intercity League has plenty of college kids in it...but I don't think they have many D-1 players hanging around there. From the League's website intercityleaguebaseball.com/about-us/Yeah, none of that is true. The team he's playing for is run by a HC alum, but nobody in the ICL is a professional baseball prospect. I'd be very few former minor league guys and 0 former ML guys. As a point of reference, the 2022 MVP for this league last played for Merrimack in 2015. The guy who won the 2022 Sportsmanship Award is the head coach for Melrose. He graduated from Catawba in 2004. This seems like a cross between American Legion and men's league baseball.

Lexington Blue Sox 2023 Roster includes some familiar names, including:
Pat McGowan (HC '19) Cam O'Neill (HC '18) Eric Lopes (HC '20) Peter Dudunakis (HC '21) Ryan O'Rourke (Merrimack '10 and former MLB pitcher for Twins and Mets) Alex Voitik (HC '17) Austin Masel (HC '20) Nate Wolf (HC '21) Andrew Selima (HC '21)
Definitely an interesting summer ball choice for a current collegiate player, but have to think the HC connection plays a large part in that decision...

The most competitive baseball played at fitton field this year will happen tonight when Franklin hosts Methuen in the MIAA Final Four as a heads up. Nice to see the field being used for a real baseball product for once.

Agree hcbaseballalum this a good thing, but what five things would you recommend to fix the program with the necessary budget numbers to support the change.
We can't fix it without building a strategy for the future

Five things? I'll narrow it down to fixing starting pitching, relief pitching, fielding, hitting, and the weather. Other than that, we're probably solid.

Contract must have run out. Perhaps the HC Alum who inked the sponsorship deal as CEO of Hanover retired. Hanover also bought naming rights for Hanover Theater in Worcester, both expenditures critical in financing the opening of Worcester's first professional baseball park in decades and Worcester's first Theater appropriate to host national touring productions of Broadway type shows in decades. Mechanics Hall was a little too small, the DCU was too big so Hanover has been a blessing. Quite generous for an insurance company that sells nationally I believe because neither sponsored facility gets much notice outside of Central Mass. Can we subcontract the Bravehearts promoters who get 4500 people into a 3000 seat stadium for affinity nights like these education games or the promotions for Police and Fire Fighters and their families and supporters? They pack the stadium. At HC basketball games you sometimes see a few kids in team shirts, but they have to play at halftime for their tickets. The WBB pre-Christmas education game is during school hours and does well but you don't get the parents, grandparents and siblings to come. Football is bringing in fans but there are generally 10,000 or so empty seats for a good promoter to work on filling. And Hockey generally has room for an affinity group of modest size. Generally the only sellouts for an HC game of any kind in recent years is when a Cousy or Heinsohn or Perry has their name go up on a banner. From the website it appears that Bravehearts GM Dave Peterson who has been there since the Tornadoes and was always a riot in the field when he entertained the kids between innings as "Peterman" and Asst GM Nate Gonelli have done the marketing and group sales over the years. Holy Cross hires people for marketing, promotions, group sales but they are generally from out of the area and have to reinvent the wheel to form the relationships with the local groups and the local market. Peterson and Gonelli have built those relationships for years. I'm not talking about poaching them, just supplementing their work with the Bravehearts and paying them and the team to use their contacts on behalf of HC sports whose seasons don't overlap with the Bravehearts. Just a thought. HC has some type of marketing company working for them but I'm fuzzy about the connection.

I would think the ROI on that sponsorship never worked out for them...

I would think the ROI on that sponsorship never worked out for them... Nor did it ultimately work out for the failed Tornadoes, but it worked out for Holy Cross who owns the stadium free and clear that the sponsorship helped finance.

I heard a rumor that the baseball scoreboard was damaged by fire - anyone know if this is true and can we assume HC will pay for repair ?

Did anyone see the news report that the baseball scoreboard caught fire at Fitton field? Daktroniks will send technicians from Brookings, SD. to rotate the Fitton Video Board to handle the baseball scores. The technicians, all SDSU season ticket holders, will then wander in to football summer camp and make a scouting report for the Jackrabbits to prepare for their visit to Fitton in the FCS playoffs.🙂 Only kidding. The scoreboard is probably covered by insurance and there must be a resolution by now. If the Bravehearts and HC split the cost they could get a nice video board that HC could also use for overflow crowds during sold out EBW Classic games at Polar Park and away games where fans could sit in the comfortable chairback seats and watch the game. Would Baseball Field Parking Pass holders chip in to the cost of an outfield video board if HC let them watch the first quarter of FB games on it while continuing to tailgate?

I don't subscribe to the New England Baseball Journal but do receive emails from them with the first couple of paragraphs of a story Last week there was a story about HC receiving commitments from 4 players for the '24 class including Nick Anderson from Belmont Hill (did not have access to the complete story with the other names)

Anyone notice whether they got it fixed/replaced for the Bravehearts' games? I assume it was the same scoreboard they had there in the past, wasn't replaced by something fancy when the Hart and Fitton Football boards were installed. Shouldn't have caught fire in any case. Never heard of such a thing happening to a scoreboard.

Don't know the resolution but you inadvertently hinted at baseball not being the priority it should be because that is the one sport where a video board could also bring in revenue from HC negotiating a cut of any video ads the Bravehearts could sell to defray the cost of the board. I don't believe HC receives any significant income from any other field or arena. Maybe the ice rink but I think the rinks downtown and in Marlborough may have reduced rentals of the Hart Rink and no team that draws crowds like the Bravehearts rents it. BTW, Do the Bravehearts have the second highest attendance of any team that plays on the Holy Cross campus?

Any reports from someone who tailgated on the baseball field during the Merrimack game?
