This is a dumb FCS rule. If you win your confrence you should get a home playoff game. The first round is like a play in round anyway. I am sorry not interested in traveling to the 4th seed in the CAA that gets an at large bid. It’s an unfortunate reality at this point. BTW the CAA has 0 teams in the top 10 in Massey’s rankings. That’s unusual. JMU is #11 In reality, Villanova is a Top 10 FCS team right now. JMU is probably fringe Top 10. The rest of the CAA is very bunched up this year. A lot of decent-to-good teams. Put it this way -- anyone out side of those 2 in the CAA could win against or lose to Holy Cross or Fordham and I wouldn't be surprised at either result. Typically the AGS poll is the most accurate FCS poll -- Id recommend looking at that if you want the most accurate week by week poll for our division. Unfortunately, deciding playoff home field doesnt work like the NFL (where if you're 7-9 but win a bad division you get a home game). Its not IMPOSSIBLE a PL team could host in the Round of 24 this year but Id say its very unlikely.

Depending on how much the committee seeks to regionalize the opening round games, at 9-2 there's a decent chance we could host the NEC champ or one of the final CAA teams to get an at-large bid.
It'll help if Monmouth wins the Big South and Yale has a strong finish in the Ivy. Plus, no matter how bad UConn is (they'll in all likelihood lose out), the committee will value an FBS win.
This is all very premature as I believe the Fordham game in the Bronx will be a coin flip.

In 2018 Colgate got a home game, it was the second round; their 9-1 record got them seeded 8th, I believe.
Their lone regular season loss was to Army, 28-14; beat UNH 10-3 as well as Bill & Mary. Game w/Furman was cancelled, so only 10 games.
The PL champ, if HC or Fordham, has a shot at a first round home game, definitely not top 8. If anyone else wins the league, no way.

In 2018 Colgate got a home game, it was the opening round, so they had to be ranked somewhere between 9 and 16. Or did they get that for being league champ? They were actually one of the top eight seeds. They automatically advanced to the round of 16 and hosted JMU.

When did this game get the name the “EBW Classic” ? Nice idea. My guess is because Larry Lucchino, Principal owner of the WooSox was a protege of Edward Bennett Williams and has mentioned flying with EBW to Worcester to watch HC play at Fitton, he associates Holy Cross Football with EBW, perhaps is friendly with the Williams Family and wants to honor his old Boss.

Anyone know what happened to Dan Hunt (Colgate’s former HC)? As I recall he was dismissed under suspicious circumstances.

I can't recall. I have, however, started to appreciate the importance if a strong running game and the need to have the depth needed to carry it out.

The relationship expanded to include professional sports and as they say the rest is history.

Getting back (and concurrently getting ahead of ourselves) to getting a home playoff game (in the round of 24 anyway)....isn't there some sort of bidding process to get a home game? Is that still done?

Is that still done? I recall something like that where stadium size was considered as one factor. Of course outside of SDSU and a few other rabid FCS locations, stadium size in December isn't a big issue. Monmouth has a small stadium but our playoff game with them wasn't a sellout. So far the FCS tournament hasn't grown into anything similar to March Madness, but along with hockey it gives HC entre to a D-1 tournament competing against fewer schools than the full universe of D-1.

HC is celebrating playing under the lights on Family Weekend in the first football game ever at Polar Park, as well as looking forward to the possible battle for both the Patriot League auto-bid and the Ram Crusader Trophy against Fordham.
Colgate is merely undefeated in first place at 2-0. They won't be intimidated and have plenty on the line. Let's not look past them.
