In hindsight, this team could have used a D3 opponent as an opener.

Lowlights will be up on the website tomorrow.
It isn't unheard of for a team to snap back and play great after a blowout. But our quickness deficit against NU might be glaring vs BC.

It's just one game. But lots of areas need work.

I feel for Ezemma. She works hard but at 5'11" she often has bad angles underneath when she tries to put up a bunny. When the announcer said HC had their big lineup in with both Ezemma and Allen, the five players on the floor were still all under six feet.

The league is small this season except for Boston and Lehigh. Hopefully, the lack of a 6-footer won't be an issue for getting into the top half of the conference

Demski got a few minutes of play in. Hope she's rounding into shape.

So Flaherty has disappeared from the program and Cara McCormack did not see the floor in a blowout - injured or is there another explanation any thought ?

Maybe there is some sort of team issue that is or has occurred.(?) They certainly were not connected tonight or dialed in mentally.

So Flaherty has disappeared from the program and Cara McCormack did not see the floor in a blowout - injured or is there another explanation any thought ? I believe that McCormack was sitting at the end of the bench in warmups, so I'd guess injured. Hopefully, Toland may mentioned something in her game story, about them both, but based on the lack of transparency in the past, I don't expect it. Flaherty's twitter doesn't have any info nor has she been reported to have entered the portal. What ever happened, it happened pretty recently as when I checked the roster a few days ago she was still listed.

Demski got a few minutes of play in. Hope she's rounding into shape. I doubt it. She has no mobility, has not had any ever since I started watching her play. They looked horrible.

Going forward, that might be my biggest concern. Glaring lack of quickness, both physical and mental. If you're by default small, you best not be slow too.

Connecticut College will be here on November 22. They have two six footers and they also have one head coach and one assistant coach - that's it.
I was just reading their website. Connecticut College was founded for women in 1911 because another college in Connecticut had started admitting women and then abruptly stopped. Interestingly the college wasn't named, probably Yale?
Multiple communities in CT bid on being the host of the new women's college. New London won with the highest pledge from area residents and the gift of a beautiful hilltop for a campus. So it's a private college founded by the public.

Actually it was Wesleyan that stopped admitting women. CT College started admitting male students in 1969 btw.

In 1872, the university became one of the first U.S. colleges to attempt coeducation by admitting a small number of female students,[17] a venture then known as the "Wesleyan Experiment". "In 1909, the board of trustees voted to stop admitting women as undergraduates, fearing that the school was losing its masculine image and that women would not be able to contribute to the college financially after graduation the way men could."[25] Given that concern, Wesleyan ceased to admit women. From 1912 to 1970, Wesleyan operated again as an all-male college.[
Students of color were first admitted in the 1960’s.

Very poor showing by the Lady Crusaders last night. They would have lost to a D3 school the way they played. The team looked like the walking wounded and many of the players are not D1 players. They need players who will take care of the ball and run some type of offense. Trying to dribble thru 3 or 4 opponents is unrealistic with little movement by HC forwards. Togo would have exploded with last night's performance. The coaches have a lot to do in correcting this ship.....young female players should come here to get immediate playing time. Free throw practice is mandatory for this group.....

Awful way to start the season, but it's just one game.

The article includes numerous pictures from the game including one with 5 NU players taking a knee at the playing of the National Anthem - Must say, that's the first time I've seen that at the Hart

Could someone download this? WORCESTER — The Holy Cross women’s basketball team had a good preseason, played well in its two scrimmages and was obviously excited about returning to the Hart Center for its 2021-22 opener and playing in front of fans for the first time in 611 days. “It was nice looking out in the stands and seeing friends and family and alums,” HC senior forward Oluchi Ezemma said. “I think that came with a little bit of pregame jitters because we haven’t played in front of people in a while.” The Crusaders couldn’t shake those nerves against Northeastern. The Huskies started both halves strong and prevented HC from finding any kind of offensive flow, and beat the Crusaders, 71-45, Wednesday night to give their new coach, Bridgette Mitchell, her first career victory. Holy Cross turned the ball over 25 times. “It’s very disappointing,” HC coach Maureen Magarity said. “I was impressed with Northeastern, their athleticism, and their ball pressure really rattled us.” Holy Cross finished 7-8 last year, Magarity’s first with the Crusaders. HC returned all five starters and added depth with three freshmen. HC was without sophomore guard Cara McCormack, a Patriot League All-Rookie selection last year. She is “day to day,” Magarity said. “We missed Cara,” Magarity said. “It would have been nice to have another ball handler.” Northeastern, which went 7-13 last year, was HC’s first non-conference opponent since Stetson on Dec. 30, 2019. Holy Cross and Northeastern met for the first time since 2013-14. The Huskies made 57 percent of their shots in the second half and Holy Cross missed 10 free throws. Ezemma scored 12 points, and had 8 rebounds and 4 steals to lead Holy Cross. Senior guard Avery LaBarbera scored 12 points and pulled down 7 rebounds, but had 5 turnovers. “Like Coach said, they took me out of my rhythm,” LaBarbera, a three-time All-Patriot League selection who needs 18 points for 1,000 in her career, said. “I had some turnovers I shouldn’t have had. Ultimately, it comes down to us controlling all those things – the turnovers, the missed free throws, the box-outs – but I think we need to turn the page a little bit. We have a long season.” Boston College is up next for Holy Cross on Saturday. Sophomore guard Donna Ntambue, a transfer from Utah, led Northeastern with 19 points. Northeastern made its first four field goal attempts and Holy Cross turned the ball over three times in the first two minutes. HC had as many turnovers (nine) as points in the first quarter, and the Huskies led, 17-9 after 10 minutes. In the second quarter, Northeastern cooled off from the floor, but with the help of HC’s turnovers, pushed its lead to as many as 13 with 2:48 left. HC worked the ball inside, and after sophomore Steph Davis sank a jumper, Ezemma and sophomore forward Janelle Allen battled underneath for back-to-back baskets, and the 6-0 spurt got the Crusaders within seven at halftime. “We definitely felt a little momentum going into the locker room,” Ezemma said. Northeastern, though scored the first eight points of the second half, and built the lead from there. “We talked about it,” LaBarbera said. “When you’re down (at halftime), those first couple minutes of the third are so important. Who’s going to throw the first punch? Unfortunately, they did, and we weren’t able to bounce back.” After BC, Holy Cross has Dartmouth, UMass and Connecticut College over the next two weeks. “I’m disappointed with our performance,” Magarity said. “Hopefully we’ll learn from it. This is just not the way we’ve been playing. It felt like it was just one of those days. Northeastern shot the ball well, but we weren’t locked in as well as we should have been defensively. We have to play with more poise, and more confidently and tougher.” Contact Jennifer Toland at jennifer.toland@telegram.com. Follow her on Twitter @jentandg.
