You know, years ago (maybe still?), insurance companies insured actresses with very attractive legs in case something terrible happened (Betty Grable, maybe?) and they got disfigured.
I'm "the insurance guy" and maybe I should know this but this wasn't my particular area of expertise (think of insurance like medicine - you wouldn't want a gynecologist doing neurosurgery on your brain or an orthopedic doing a heart transplant). Guessing that either the NFL or individual players have insurance if their careers end prematurely due to an unexpected injury. Or, something stupid like NFL players getting injured in a flag football game on a beach.
My old company bought a subsidiary company in Arizona or Nevada (somewhere in the southwest) that specialized in niche insurance stuff like hole-in-one golf competitions, weather cancellations of outdoor events. that sort of thing.
So, any "experts" on Crossports who could answer whether the poor guy Dave cited might have had some insurance take care of his career ending injury?

They can definitely insure those types of things...I even heard recently (and I don't know if this is new with the NIL shift or if it has always existed) that schools and third parties can insure big collegiate athletes to entice them to stay, minimizing the financial risk of an injury suffered in college when they could have been in the pros. I know Edwards had an injury history in college too, so a policy could have been cost prohibitive, or perhaps he just didn't get one yet as it was only his rookie season.

HC92 I see that almost all of my fellow Lions’ fans want to keep Kalif👍🏻. Based on his performance over the last two years, I’d be stunned if he was cut. I’m not all that familiar with NFL cap rules but I don’t understand why the cap savings for Kalif would be over $3.1MM and his salary for next yr. is somewhere between $950K and $1MM. Perhaps he received a signing bonus that has to be counted if he’s cut. Nevertheless, probably a moot point. With Dan Campbell at the helm, I don’t see Kalif going anywhere.

I fully expect he’ll be back. Posted it more to show that Kalif is doing pretty well financially. I wonder if triggering his incentives this year somehow has an impact on his cap number for next year. He made a lot more this year than the guarantee initially reported.

I think you’re right that the performance bonuses earned this yr. and his signing bonus (an amount that I don’t remember) boosted the cap savings number up. I can see $2MM. $3.125MM still seems a bit high but, like I said, I think it’s a moot point since I don’t see Kalif getting cut.
