Kalif had his press conference this morning for the official announcement of his signing of a two-year deal with the Lions. So, no time like the present to start up the 2022 Kalif thread. The Detroit media already loves him but he may have cemented his status as their favorite by bringing them bagels this morning.

Wouldn't the signing bonus be guaranteed money also ($1.25M)?

From a USA Today article on the Lions WR position battles. The writer believes (probably correctly) that the Lions 1-4 WRs are #1 pick Jameson Williams, DJ Chark, Amon-Ra St. Brown and Josh Reynolds. After that he wrote:
Presuming the Lions keep six WRs — perhaps a dangerous presumption — that leaves two spots. Kalif Raymond is almost certainly guaranteed one spot. Campbell spoke very highly of Raymond before practice as a versatile gadget player who can align at multiple positions and will also be the starting punt returner. The matter-of-factness to Campbell’s tone makes it incredibly difficult to see the Lions moving on from Raymond, who also re-signed in Detroit this offseason.

A lot of words of praise, but it seems as if Kalif will get fewer touches than last season. I hope I am wrong.

A lot of words of praise, but it seems as if Kalif will get fewer touches than last season. I hope I am wrong. If everyone stays healthy, I don’t think he’ll have 48 catches. More like 30. But, as we learned last year, NFL wide receivers have trouble staying healthy.

Kalif was the last male athlete named Crusader of the year in 2016. I'm rooting for Jacob Dobbs to win it for the upcoming school year which will mean he was healthy and productive during the football season.

If Sluka wins it we will have had an exciting fall.

Sluka will likely may a strong case for himself Sluka has to beat out Pesansky first before we hand him the award. Talk to the playmakers and ask them who they believe should be the QB, it might just shock this forum.

You mean ask Sluka who should be QB? Only kidding, but isn't he the number one playmaker? Perhaps there will be a way for both Sluka and Pesansky to get in together. That would be exciting.
Pesansky fires to Sluka behind the line of scrimmage and takes a few steps back. Now Sluka has three options, run, throw downfield or throw backwards to Pesansky.
Not too likely but exciting to consider.

Yah - plenty of talk to players. They love how tough Sluka is. They love what both guys bring.

One might be the better technical QB who can make big plays. The other finds ways to win games.
They are both talented players and athletes, and yes, I would love to see Pesansky get some time, but the job is Sluka's until it's not.
If you can watch Pesansky playing hoops, you will see how explosive he is as an athlete, so there is not much of a drop-off, if any, from Sluka.
Also, don't discount the pressure brought to the competition by the young man from Chicago.
The good news is that as long as these players remain healthy and at HC, the QB position is in good shape.

We know what Sluka can do and I feel pretty good about how far we can go with just him. If Pesansky is good enough to get on the field and introduce an additional element to the offense, all the better!

Senior Griffin Wiegel is the only other QB listed on the roster, so the incoming freshman will make four, one from each class? That's certainly good balance.

"If you have two QBs, you have none."
Back to Kalif, any of the four guys listed above are ahead of him on the depth chart, clearly. Injuries do happen, but he should hang on as the primary PR at a minimum. Not a bad gig for almost a couple mil.

Kalif is a fine target for the occasional flea flicker. All he needs is a split second of hesitation by a DB and he's by him.

If you have two quarterbacks each highly skilled in one of the two main facets of the position, and not bad in the other main facet, the defense is "bleeped".

"If you have two QBs, you have none." I have heard that a number of times. The problem is that for HC, at least, it is wrong. HC has won three straight championships with 2 QBs getting playing time in. IIRC, every game.
