How many Middlesex Magicians have we offered? Not sure but one of the benefits of having so many available scholarships is that a strong group of kids who want to stay together could all decide to make their own “Fab 5” type of class at a school close to home where they could continue to play together. Would help turn our fortunes around pretty quickly if we got some of the better Magicians. Maybe in two to three years the HC Basketball team will be have an AKA….The Fabulous Mt. St. James Magicians. Have a nice ring to it, like that team from the northern section of Manhattan. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harlem_Magicians

I'm getting a warm feeling about 2024 and beyond. It would sure be nice to have a return to normalcy: staff makes lots of offers in the spring in summer; priority guys visit in September, you get commitments in time for the first signing period. No more uncertainty going into the following spring.

Does anyone know if B Hops is walking through that door ? I don't think John Hightower or Malik Waters are walking through that door either

Hightower would have been awesome under Willard, not so much on the other 2.

Hightower would have been awesome under Willard, not so much on the other 2. agree. can you imagine how many deflections he would have had with rw's emphasis? played with him a bunch and he had exceptional lateral quickness and some of the craziest wingspan for a guy who was only 6'1. would have had his hands on a ton of balls (pause) in rw's system.

Love the “only 6’1”” reference, as if that was short.😂 Some of us are altitudily challenged and did not play basketball on the college or professional levels. Point taken but just made me smile.😊 P.S. Look at my avatar, at least I'm the same height as the football coach (he claims I am taller - I was before age shrunk me by a full inch. )

Don't think I was ever 5-11.

I believe that RW had RP Jr help Josh S. Presume he would have been employed for John

hightower tried a bunch of different free throw modifications. i don't remember if rp jr helped him at all. he shot them fairly well our freshman year, and the decline was mostly mental (as it is with many players) as he was the first to admit it. he ended up with the most unusual form and cadence since larry johnson.

The idea that Willard would let anyone outside the coaching staff (including RP jr.) to help/coach the team in any capacity is hilarious. Roger Breslin spent countless hours with Josh S on free throws and and foot work. Willard made all of us shoot free throws the exact same way, 3 dribbles/ set ball in triple threat base of chin/shoot. Limited motion = limited room for error. Raynor allowing Hightower (I love Hightower, and was the only player besides Juan who belonged in my early years) to shoot jump shots on the free throw line, was the sole reason I began to look to transfer. I made a call to Deniss Wolf at BU immediately after that practice.

Hightower was a tremendous leader, he cared DEEPLY and truly felt he was responsible for our teams failure. He was a true “Willard Guy”, and coach would have given him the confidence and commitment he needed.

If I recall correctly, he had a killer crossover.

If I recall correctly, he had a killer crossover. Yup, and could defend anyone, literally anyone in the country.

JC, didn't Whitey Moynihan help with free throws?

Not during my time, but possibly after. If there was one person Coach would “let in” it would have been him.

I made a call to Deniss Wolf at BU immediately after that practice.that whole thing was crazy. and it obviously didn't work very well. agree with all of your points about hightower, especially his character and how he would have been a great fit in an rw defense. i would also add to your list of attributes that he was one of the genuinely nicest and funniest guys i knew at hc. his reaction after shotgunning his first beer at cape week was priceless and something i am smiling about as i type

I believe that RW had RP Jr help Josh S. Presume he would have been employed for John Right name - wrong person. As I heard the story it was Ron Perry '54 who worked with Josh on his foul shooting Strange that this seems totally inconsistent with Jared's recollections from the time

How many Middlesex Magicians have we offered? Goes to show you the power of the relationship between Paulsen and Crotty who runs the Magic.
