BU ended up losing 3 out of their last 5; and the second win was real shaky.

unfortunate time of the year to have your run of bad play.

Nice 1-point upset victory for a very poised Princeton women’s team v NC State.
Don’t know how often one school gets two upset wins in the first round but it can’t be too often.

I’m jealous of how good Ivy basketball is for both M & W - at one time thought PL could be close to them - only to see the gap widen in recent years

And the fact they were both first round upset wins must be extraordinarily unusual looking beyond IL.

The top 2 teams from the PL managed to score 4 points each in the first qtr of their games yday regardless of the competition I find that disappointing

Not an excuse for some of those HC passes, but BU did not have the caliber of opponent that HC did.

When HC beat Maryland in the tournament in the early 90s, the Crusaders had played UConn earlier in the season. This year HC played a Big East and an ACC team but Marquette got blown out by UConn in the Big East tournament by a similar margin as HC lost yesterday and BC had a losing season.
The rest of the OOC schedule, with a D-3 (Connecticut College) and two D-2 to D-1 transition teams (Stonehill, Merrimack) is in a race to the bottom with MBB, finishing in either a close second place or a photo finish, whichever you prefer.
So, that's one upgrade that can be attempted (always takes two to tango) to strengthen the program by strengthening the OOC schedule.
Now having 18 league games instead of 14 that the Ivies have and PL used to have, limits OOC options, but scheduling a strong OOC team during the league schedule would also cause HC to have to adjust to quicker, bigger opponents closer to the post season.

UVM women lost to UConn, 95-52 this afternoon. Maryland vs UConn will be must see TV if it occurs. It wouldn’t be close to the must see TV game that is far more likely to happen, i.e.UConn versus #1 South Carolina. For Maryland to end up meeting UConn, they would have to upset South Carolina, a game where they would be a heavy underdog, and then upset Stanford (or Iowa).

Maryland beat UConn by 7 earlier in the year when UConn dressed 7 players and didn’t have current starters Azzi Fudd, Nika Muhl or Dorka Juhasz. UConn by 25 if they play tomorrow.

Since I have a daughter who went to Law School at Santa Clara, and now lives in the Pacific Northwest, I follow teams from the WCC. Tonight the Portland Pilots (who school colors are purple) played Oklahoma in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, while watching the game I noticed the number of players on the roster from Australia and New Zealand. A total of 10 out of 16 on the roster. Seems more and more, on both the men’s and women’s teams, international players have a role in US college sports. portlandpilots.com/sports/womens-basketball/rosterHoly Cross, with Callie and Bronagh seem now on the track to recruit beyond the lower 48. Hope that Coach MM can continue to open an international pipeline for skill and talented players who will keep HC at the top of the league and solidly compete in post season play. It was also great to see, the families from both these players attend games either in the Patriot League Tournament or the NCAA Tournament.

Six foreign students from an eclectic collection of home countries. The Catamounts are a tick ahead of HC as they beat us this year. Norway, Croatia, Serbia, Latvia - UVM has been putting resources into international recruiting. I like the concept of players from small countries that are in the mid major talent range but have the advantage of playing for different age national teams. They might have similar talent as a typical American HS/AAU player, but based on opinions of AAU expressed on Crossports, and watching BPC for three seasons, might have better fundamentals.

Good to get a foothold, recruiting-wise, in one or two countries. Pretty much what SMC has done in Australia.

Callie is from Ontario.

And Callie was recruited from Worcester via the online portal. Can't remember any reference to a Holy Cross coach leaving the U.S. to see her play in Canada.
