BJ Please reconsider. We value opinions from those outside our narrow bubble. Thanks, i'll lurk but will tone it down a bit.! No need to tone anything down. BTW, 1977 was a very good year.

Memo to billyjack: remove Mark Daigneault from your list as he doesn't coach in the G League, he's the head coach of the OKC Thunder, and certainly isn't leaving the NBA for HC despite how good some think the HC job is.

And Father McFarland has a better chance getting the head coaching job after being hit by lightning than Daigneault has of becoming the coach here after winning the lottery . . . or something like that.

Ok i made some revisions and corrections to my master list on page 10:
- removed Daigneault - corrected Walter "McCarty" - clarified that including the good Father McFarland was a joke - revised Pelphrey as being the current coach of Tennessee Tech - once again chose not to include Steve Masiello. - Pitino is not interested. The poster that included him in this thread was joking and unfortunately had "pc" in their username.

BJ How is Brian Blaney thought of in Friarland ? Has he been involved in any head coaching searches ? Blaney is a really great guy, and has been Cooley's right-hand man from back to his Fairfield days. He's great in scouting upcoming opponents and in game management. He's very soft-spoken, kind of shy, and he doesn't seek nor seem to want attention. So it might not be in his personality to look for a head-coaching position. Occasionally he's asked to do postgame radio interviews. Extremely knowledgeable, and very honest in the Friars' game strategies. He'd be a great choice for Holy Cross HC, but i don't think he'd be interested.

Brian Blaney is the Sean Kearney of Brett Nelsons. It's funny how I have criticized the hiring of P-6 career assistant coaches to be head coach at HC with no way to judge their head coaching ability, but because Brian Blaney is George's son I kind of want him to be considered. But have to be disciplined. Winning at HC has proven to be too tough an assignment for someone learning how to be a head coach at the same time. It hasn't worked since...Duffner? And Gibbons slightly before him? Both were employed at HC and inherited winning programs which is something HC MBB can't offer at present. I can't remember what Paul Pearl's role was before he became head coach and we had a championship baseball season, but in general it's tough to come into Holy Cross as a career assistant and create a winning program.

His best skill set is in evaluating and developing talent imho we spent many hours together during the spring and summer camps and AAU events

Re: Mark Daigneault, I didn’t realize how much his teams have struggled in OK City. I hope he gets the team on the right track Considering the talent level and the fact that they have traded away virtually every good player for more first round draft picks, I think he’s done a good job. Over the next seven years, they have 19 first round draft picks and 19 second round draft picks. Obviously they will package of bunch of those to move up to the top of a draft and/or to acquire a star player or two.

I'm confident that, if put in place today, our guys would win more league games than they will with BN at the helm.

As to the Pitino talk, that ship sailed 4 yrs sgo That ship would sail right back into port if HC wanted to make the move. I know for a fact that Pitino would love the HC job. I don't want to hear about "he's a bad guy" talk. Iona has done extremely well under his leadership with NO issues. Last I checked Iona is a Catholic institution.

Less than zero shot Pitino would leave Iona for HC now, but go ahead, keep believing he would.
