I remember one specific time when FCMB used it: when they were out on the west coast in the 2012-13 season, and they were trying to ice the game against USF with under 10 seconds to go (think they were up 2 or 3). Jordan Stevens threw the pass to Malcolm Miller (I think) for the breakaway dunk. I remember this because I remember Milan later saying they could hear Jordan's shoulder crack as he threw it (had issues with it that year). Might have been a little fib as the pass would have been from the far end of the floor, but who knows.
This is yet another area where not having a tall guy (to either throw or catch) hurts.

Come on, Dave. You have to be tall to play basketball? That's "heightist" (I made that up). Go talk to Calvin Murphy eye-to-eye. Or look down when you talk to Muggsy Bogues.

Until this season Nelson had his guards pick up full court after made hoops. Never double teaming, even at the end of games down a few. We were frequently beaten up the court for 5 on 4 baskets. Fortunately, he gave this strategy up this year, one reason our defensive numbers are up. Where are these “few more quick guards” coming from that you are referring to ? Hard to see us playing major minutes next season with Kenney at the 5, Octave at the 4 and Bo at the 3. I thought the plan for this season was to have Coulibaly at 5 and Gates at 4. Health obviously changed that plan. Barring some unknown impact big guy coming in, I anticipate that, if healthy, Coulibaly will be the 5

Speaking of height, I just read on the Fairfield board that a 7’3” kid from Bridgeport Prep was at their game yesterday. He has teammates that are 7’2” and 6’10”.

Good for the Stags.
(Should a co-ed school have a mascot who is, by definition, male?)

Good for the Stags. (Should a co-ed school have a mascot who is, by definition, male?) Do they call the female sports teams something different? - like the St Peter's Peacocks and Peahens

Don't answer a question with a question!! While I should know this, I believe they just sort of avoid the reference and call them the "women's basketball team" or field hockey or . . . . . very sure they don't call them the Fairfield Does. Their bookstore has apparel for ladies, like for the women's crew team, that prominently has "Stags" on it.

Nice win for the team. Bo with a great all around game; before the season I said I thought the team could be really competitive if the trio of GG, Bo, and Octave could be amongst the league's top 15 players. While Bo and Joe have had their moments, the consistency has been lacking. I am glad they all continue to hang in there; it would be nice if they could knock someone off in the postseason. Coaching question: on those out of bounds plays, is there any reason they can't try the deep ball? Have someone run hard towards the passer, stop, and then go deep? Can't be any riskier than what they've been doing. There are ways to run that Home Run play. It all depends on spacing to get a guy free, and how the opposition defends the inbound plays....Do it once and a while and teams will be ready for it...Save it for a big moment, it may work once..Still need somebody who can make the pass, it's not as easy as one might think, especially with an aggressive defender on the ball... and if the ball goes all the way up the court not being touched, the defensive team gets the ball back under their hoop, if the clock was not running...Was it Coach Brown who use to run it successfully?? I saw Coach Jack Donohue in the late 60's run it several times and with much success. Of course, in those days there was a lot less scouting and not many teams saw it coming. He used to have two guards at free throw lane and two forwards at mid court. When they handed the ball to the inbounder on the baseline the two guards each broke for the sideline while the two forwards started racing to the inbounder, After two steps one of the forwards hit the brakes and headed for his basket. By that time the ball was already in the air and he would catch up to it at the top of the key and go in for a layup.
Iowa uses it quite often because McCaffery's son, Connor, is also a baseball player and has the ability to make consistent long and accurate passes.

I ran it with the 4 inbounding the ball, the 5 and 3 at half court..Our basic press break was the 2 screening for the 1 at the free throw line, the 1 broke toward the baseline, and the 2 rolled..with one of the guys at half court breaking up the sideline on the ball side, and the other breaking long...When we ran home run, both players from half court broke hard up the sideline toward the endline. the 1 screened for the 2 , reverse of what usually happened, and the pass went long to the 2... We won a big game with it, and also lost a game with it (the inbounder hit the ceiling with the pass)..
IF a team can run it without a timeout or deadball, it can be very effective..

The Bucknell squad is sending a message that our win over AU was far less than impressive
The bottom four to six in the league are a train wreck
Let the misery end soon, but I should say given expectations, this group of players represented the school as well as we could have asked

The 6-8 Crusaders are getting ready to sweep the 5-9 Terriers. Should be a heck of a game.
