Does anyone know how the Patriot League's deal with ESPN+ works? I'm already not attending games in person until Coach Nelson is relieved of his duties. Is the ESPN+ deal a flat rate or are there kick backs based on number of viewers? Do we need to stop watching all together or can we still be a gluttons for punishment and watch the games on ESPN+? you do realize that the more people attend games, the better chance there is of signing better players to help the program? When recruits come to game, and there are very few fans, it doesn't give a warm feeling for the school...

A current player reached out to me today, we have never spoken or exchanged any communication. He asked if we could have a conversation to provide some “insight” as to what he, and he alone is feeling. What was discussed provides zero insight as to what might happen or the current state of moral etc., so I’ll share no details. I will say I was incredibly impressed with this young man, and I almost wished he didn’t reach out because now my anger has multiplied. I’ll say it again, these kids are incredibly stressed as well as struggling with the idea that they are responsible for all of this. I am truly hoping that this phone call was an attempt of one individual showing some balls and reaching out to a loud mouth, and was in one way part of a larger “campaign” to gain empathy through the players. These kids need HC people in their corner right now. This is very bad. We all have a rooting, emotional whatever type of interest and concern. The players lives are directly affected by this situation. I’ve been at almost all the home games as a longtime season ticket holder. They seem, from my limited observation, to be good kids. They certainly play hard, encourage one another etc. A fewer days ago someone said that KH “owes” us an explanation. I’m not sure that’s true at this point. But he, they whoever, owe the players some consideration. They need to end this one way or another for the sake of these kids. As in tomorrow.

Having been on a team that had a coaching staff on a death watch and eventually fired, I must say that was one of the more stressful and unforgettable times of my life. I learned a lot about people and discovered a lot about friendship. Having read some of the posts here, I hoped that the players and staff didn’t see them, but undoubtedly they at least know of them, which is unfortunate. Hopefully this ordeal ends quickly, no matter what decision the BoT decides to do with our head coach.

This is a logical move, but wouldn't our assistants be at a disadvantage to assistants from strong winning programs and Head Coaches from small private d-3 schools that don't have a State Pension and are less secure than a State school like Rhode Island College?? Nobody likes to take a step backwards in their career but wouldn't the resume of our assistants scare the heck out of an AD hiring a new head coach? It's too bad for the assistants that there isn't a precise way to measure their contributions at Holy Cross. Job pays $71000, so, less than you can make teaching high school history and coaching jv hoops. www.transparency.ri.gov/payroll/verify_prep.phpYeah, but they aren't correcting papers or lesson planning after a tough loss in Attleboro at 10PM....suck it up

He used to be at Nichols before RIC.

I don't give a rats a$$ who the coach is, I don't come to watch him; I just want him to put the guys in the best position to win. My passion is with the guys on the floor, giving their blood, sweat and tears. I would be more than happy to wear a shirt to games that says "I'm Here For the Players". That the players feel it's on them really angers me as well. Now, I give an annual chump change donation to the program, but I am thinking of sending 4 pennies in with a note that reads "I won't give a nickel". To me that would be more apt to catch their attention. But that's me.

I'm really liking Jared Curry even more now than I did than when he was a player. And that was a lot! If we have no answers by noon today, I am starting a CrosSports GoFundMe to arrange for Jared to meet Kit Hughes at the DCU this afternoon and promptly throw him over the scorer’s table.

If the problem is raising the money to buy out the contract, put an end date on it of the next few days and move on one way or the other. If he is staying, have Kit do a short video discussion with BN asking him about recruiting, off season workouts, etc. and ending with KH saying how much he is looking forward to working with BN next year. They announce it without having to announce it.

We are there to support the kids, not the coach.

If Nelson returns for a 5th year I am all in in supporting him and his players to get things turned around and to see them enjoy the fruits of winning. I alluded to not renewing my season tickets but have decided to do so to support everyone involved with the program. Losing sucks and brings out a lot of negativity. We are better than making all these assumptions about what is going on behind the scenes, denigrating someone’s personality, etc. We really don’t know what has been discussed, probably never will and would be better served putting the last week behind us and moving on. The world will not spin off its axis if Brett Nelson is HC’s coach going forward.

I appreciate the temperate comments of some that they will support the team next year even if BN returns. I will probably do the same because I love HC and I respect and appreciate the effort of the players, but BN has won less than 30% of his games over the past four years and there is no reason, especially with GG gone, that things will improve next year. I'd love to be wrong. It just seems kind of grim to be locked into this pattern of chronic losing.

I can agree with you 100% in that regard. I hope in the coming season that the players on this team get to frequently taste winning and to make it a habit.

This kid reached out to a random player from 20 years ago with whom he had zero prior contact. A complete stranger. Maybe he did his homework and thinks this situation is similar to what Jared went through with Coach Raynor. Or maybe he learned somehow (like reading this board) that Jared is an outspoken former player who wants better for his program. Either way, always good to remember that players, parents, and recruits might be reading what we post

Just remember: BN has two years left, it seems. Maybe we'll be winning games in March in 2025! Is that fact or speculation? We've heard that there was a COVID extension, but I read that as a rumor that someone heard. Maybe I misunderstood and it is fact. I think we have a tendency on this board to share rumor/speculation and over time that rumor/speculation becomes fact in our collective minds

You’re absolutely correct, I have sat in his chair, and it is traumatizing. Being a 19/20 year old kid having your coach tell you that you are “taking food off table for his kids”, is a brutal position to be in. I’m not saying that has been told to him, but it was to me, and after hanging up yesterday I have a feeling this might be the case. Manipulating your staff/kids is page one in the “Loser Handbook.”
