As a second time transfer, Dorsey will have to appeal to play next season. This may limit the schools who will offer him.

Disappointed that he is now in the portal. Regardless of potential minutes he could have or could not have played next season, he could have provided leadership experience in practice and from the bench.
College basketball culture is extremely flawed. Seems ego is ahead of talent, and the realization that is is just one part of being at a college or university. Not the sole reason that you attend college. At this point he should have fully embraced the environment and have been “all in” to being a “Sader”.
Paulsen will have to ensure that his players are totally involved in the academic environment and other extracurricular activities to ensure them being fully engaged as being HC students and hopefully Alumni.

Academic-wise, is Dorsey on track to graduate this spring?
If so, then at least he's getting an HC degree and using his next year (or two?) of eligibility to find a better basketball fit.
If he's not graduating, then what a silly decision this is.

If he's not graduating, then what a silly decision this is. This is his third year in college, playing at New Mexico for his freshman year, then these last two at HC. He did not have to sit out his transfer year. Thus logic says he will be a senior next season. It seems especially silly if he does not win his appeal and has to sit a season.

Very disappointed to see Dorsey in the portal. He did a lot that didn't show up in the box score. The team was better with him on the floor. Gates was the best player on last year's squad, but Dorsey was the heart of the team.
Obviously a recent decision, in that he was seen in one of those practice with Coach Paulsen video. Two years of eligibility left courtesy of the free COVID year and three years to make it happen after he sits for a season. Maybe he's thinking to get a Masters some where

Why wouldn't he think that the upcoming season under Paulsen would have been much better for his development than what he experienced last year under Nelson? It seems to me that this apparently irrational decision to leave may indicate some non-basketball factors may be involved here.

For what it's worth I just checked his twitter page, where most people seem to tell the world this stuff, and as of right now, there is no mention on his twitter page

In this case I wonder if coach DP told him he’s not welcomed back once he enters the portal ( different circumstances/timing with Bo)

I’m sure CDP had meetings with everyone and gave an honest assessment. Each player has the option to stay or go. Could you imagine in the portal was here in 1999 when CRW arrived?

Disappointing to see Dorsey go. His scoring numbers aside, he played 31 minutes per game. Most PL players get better each year. He always played hard and I’d rather have him than not.

Sorry to see this and to probably lose Dorsey. I would like to know what influenced him to make this decision. I wish him every success in his next year or two of hoops.

Very surprising...He had posted "excited to get going" on Instagram when Coach Paulsen was being introduced...

This is exactly correct. Paulsen has seen all of the kids play by now. It's not like he can kick a kid off the team, but he can also basically tell the kid for his best interests - you aren't going to play on this team. I'm going to bring in younger guys to play over you. Then at that point the player has a decision to make. Stay and finish out degree and hope to earn some minutes - or find a place that wants him more to finish out his basketball days.

I didn't see this coming. I was hoping CDP could have utilized him as a defensive stopper like he did with the Cohen kid at Bucknell. Super nice family too. Oh well, time marches on.

ND was not particularly liked by the team. Currently suspended for fighting a teammate in the locker room. Many remember his "verbal" altercation with coach Evans against Loyola in 2021. I haven't been very active on the board recently but I heard he was supposedly transferring a few weeks ago. Would not be surprised of DP asked or told him to leave. wish him well but his departure is probably for the best.

Hope not as that sounds like a page out of Nelson's book. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm naive. Horse hockey. This is Holy Cross. You work with the guys you inherited and build from there. FWIW, from what I've heard from DP and my impression upon meeting him was he wasn't looking to jettison any current players. Maybe others have gotten a different perception?

If what saderfan2020 wrote is accurate, maybe the decision was mutual.

This series of posts seems to be looking for a villain in all of this. I like hoops idea that it may simply have been mutual. In any case we will probably never know for sure.

119 of his 160 FGA were threes, but that limits his scoring effectiveness. He rarely took mid range jumpers or finished at the rim.

Time to turn the page on Nolan D.
Regardless of the reason, this will provide one of the incoming frosh with more minutes and, hopefully, get us a step closer to building a winning program over the next few years.

Are there now two open scholarships with the ND departure?
