Associate Head Coaches are higher in the food chain than assistant head coaches:
Shouldn't be a surprise. Johnson played for NADII at Bucknell.
As for R.J.: So, maybe the coach had to convince R.J. to stay in a lateral position. Considering HC is his alma mater and probably wants to see the success that never came with Nelson, might not have been a tough sell.

I really don’t think it was a difficult “sell” to keep RJ on staff.

Not sure how conducive it is to staff harmony to have Johnson come in and outrank R.J. Don't worry about staff harmony. Brett Nelson is gone. Coach Paulson is a bright and energetic leader. I'm excited to watch HC basketball again. Pack Hart so we can bring in some top flight football recruits to introduce them to HC excitement.

From today's Worcester Telegram.
'Things are going in the right direction': Holy Cross men's basketball coach Dave Paulsen rounds out staff, adds to roster Jennifer Toland Telegram & Gazette
Holy Cross men's basketball coach Dave Paulsen has solidified his coaching staff and added players to the roster. Holy Cross men’s basketball coach Dave Paulsen scored tickets to Game 1 of the NBA Eastern Conference finals Wednesday night from his former Bucknell star and Boston Celtics forward Mike Muscala, and Paulsen and his new staff had a great time at TD Garden despite the C’s disastrous third quarter.
“It was a fun bonding thing,” said Paulsen, who before the game had the chance to connect with former HC stars Roger Breslin, Ronnie Perry, Alex Vander Baan, Frank Powell and Rick Mashburn, “and do a little alumni outreach as well.”
Since becoming the 19th coach in program history in late March, it has been a busy seven weeks for Paulsen recruiting, assembling his staff, and readying to lead a Crusaders revival.

“It’s going great,” Paulsen said. “The place is special, and we’re making some progress. We’ve got a long ways to go, but we’re really excited, and things are going in the right direction.”
Late last week, Declan Ryan, a 6-foot-8, 250-pound forward who helped Worcester Academy to the 2022-23 New England Preparatory School Athletic Council Class AA championship, became the fourth member of HC’s incoming class for the fall of 2023.

Guard/forward Joe Nugent and guards Kahlil Singleton and DeAndre Williams previously signed.
The Crusaders return nine players from last year’s team, and Paulsen said he is looking to potentially land one more recruit.
Declan McIntyre, a 6-foot guard from Worcester Academy, announced on his Twitter page this week that he will join the Crusaders as a walk-on this upcoming season.

Click "Universal" in the eNewspaper Bryson Johnson and Ted Rawlings, who both worked with Paulsen at George Mason, and R.J. Evans, who was a star guard at Holy Cross and a member of former HC coach Brett Nelson’s staff for four years, will be Paulsen’s assistants in 2023-24. Johnson, who played for Paulsen at Bucknell, will serve as associate head coach.
“These guys are just really good people,” Paulsen said. “They are great role models who will be really good teachers of the game and, more importantly, good mentors to the guys on our team.”
Johnson, a 2013 Bucknell graduate who scored close to 1,400 career points for the Bison and was part of two Patriot League championship teams, spent the last two years as an assistant at the University of Vermont. He was previously on the staffs at George Mason and Brown University.
Rawlings, a 2011 University of Pennsylvania graduate, was an assistant the last four years at Texas A&M University-Commerce and helped the Lions in their transition from Division 2 to Division 1.
“You’ve got Holy Cross, Bucknell and Penn (alums),” Paulsen said. “These are bright guys who understand the mission of the Holy Cross education. I think that’s really important. These are hard-working guys who are good communicators and have great integrity. Those are the commonalities.
"You want to have diversity on your staff in every way in terms of geographical recruiting regions, in terms of basketball influences that they’ve learned from and grown from, skill sets, things like that so that they complement each other. Bryson, R.J. and Ted are all really good people, and they are all going to work together. I’m really excited about the staff.”
R.J. Evans Paulsen said it was very important to him to retain Evans, who, for the last four seasons was heavily involved in recruiting, on-court coaching, practice planning, opponent scouting, player development and game planning.
One of Paulsen’s first and lasting memories of Evans was his 31-point performance in HC’s victory over Bucknell in the 2009 Patriot League Tournament quarterfinals.
“I have always had tremendous respect for R.J.,” Paulsen said. “For the last month and a half or so, it was just R.J. and myself, and if you didn’t know any better, you would think we worked together for years. He just adapted and fit in seamlessly. I’ve been blown away by his professionalism.”
Evans, a 2012 graduate of Holy Cross, scored 1,200 career points for the Crusaders and was the 2009 PL Rookie of the Year.
Holy Cross officially announced Paulsen’s staff a few hours before the Celtics tipped off Wednesday night. Paulsen said Evans received numerous congratulatory calls and texts.
“Not necessarily just from basketball people,” Paulsen said. “He has relationships with Holy Cross people that transcend the sport. He’s just a tremendous ambassador for Holy Cross. He’s invaluable to me because he’s the one person on our staff with institutional knowledge, and he’s had great connectivity with our players and alumni base.”

For those adding 9+4 to get 13 scholarships, one of the nine is walk on Ben Capron

Looking forward to the Hart Center gradually returning back to what it once was.
Tired of "The morgue that Brett Nelson built".

Looking forward to the Hart Center gradually returning back to what it once was. Tired of "The morgue that Brett Nelson built". To be fair it was a morgue under FHCBC and FHCMB.

Looking forward to the Hart Center gradually returning back to what it once was. Tired of "The morgue that Brett Nelson built". Great line. For years Neyland Statium at the University of Tennessee was an actual functioning morgue as bodies donated to the University for Medical research were stored underneath the stadium. Some donors were ecstatic their bodies would be stored under the field their beloved Vols played on.

Is this different from any other assistant coach migration between mid majors? It's generally considered positive to gain exposure to and knowledge of different systems and coaching approaches as an assistant coach on the way up. I suppose you generally have to pay more to lure an assistant coach from a winning program to a losing one. Happy HC is in a position to do that.

I believe this is just a publication drawing attention to Johnson’s abilities, not a result of any actual poll
