So now the only unknown opponent will definitely be a home game after Christmas. It was either a late addition (within the last week or so), or they're just trying not to publicize the Dec. 30 game against Elms, who were 3-22 last season. Games like this are a waste of everyone's time. I'd rather have a hard practice or scrimmage.

The only salvation in playing The Elms is they are no longer called "Our Lady of the Elms."

If you strip away the risk/reward worries it's an appropriate game for a low/mid major team beginning a turn around, a good way to stoke local interest and a thank you to the 'hounds for sending us Bob Chesney and Nick Smith.

A guess is that we had few open dates and could not find a better opponent with a matching open date. Paulsen has shown he likes challenges- BC, St. John’s and Georgetown.

It looks like he wanted a game (if you can call that a game) after Christmas and before league play started.
Christmas being on Monday, you'd think that the 28th and 29th were also in play.
I assume league play starts Tuesday, 1/2 or Wednesday, 1/3.

DP has done wonders with the OOC schedule in just a few short months. In his sixth season, Coach Chesney is a master of small details including in scheduling. We have two quality FB OOC opponents, Harvard and Army, scheduled after the PL season begins at perfect intervals to keep the team competing at a high level before an expected slot in the playoffs.
Based on St. John's, BC and GU this year, we will be enjoying similar skill in crafting future MBB schedules.

First, while many of us knew this all along, last night Coach Chesney confirmed that this season and the last bunch were scheduled well before he took over and made clear that he was not to get any credit for playing BC, Army, etc.
Going forward, we’ll see his influence as most schedules are made up 5 +/- years in advance.
BC should get tons of credit for a lot of stuff including great student-athletes and assistant coaches but not yet for the schedule.

Amazing the confidence of TG and Nate to schedule two FBS games in an eleven game year, but very glad they did. Realistically, all these FBS games would be mismatches on the field without Chesney.

I would think the 2 FBS games are pay games..And that is a BIG reason to schedule those teams...Remember Coach Willard doing that to get a new floor in the Hart Center?

Ralph was no Red Auerbach who kept the old parquet because the Celtics knew where the dead spots were.🙂 I think that's actually a myth because I believe before he died Red admitted he let those rumors about the dead spots and stories about him turning the heat or hot water off in the visitors locker room persist to distract opponents by saying that the dead spots were floating so nobody knew where they would show up and when the visitors locker room lost heat or hot water in the creaky old Garden, the home locker room did, too. Pay games when one team is greatly out matched are disappointing but HC's two this year are very appropriate. I don't think either BC or Army pay the most but both are long time opponents.

BC paid $1.1 m to Northern Illinois last week I don't think it's been posted on Crossports what BC paid HC. The game wasn't on cable TV never mind broadcast on network TV but hopefully BC gets the same share from the ACC television contract as all the league teams for this game as well as the 40,000 tickets sold so they can pay HC a decent amount. Not sure how things work.

I think HC MIGHT get more than a Maine or a Stony Brook (teams they played in the past), but only because the crowd potential is greater. By the way, NIU lost to Southern Illinois yesterday. Second straight time that's happened. SIU beat Umass by a lot a year or two ago.

Just saw that Umass will be playing for the title of best team in New Mexico in a couple weeks.
They already beat NM State and play the Lobos of New Mexico on the 23rd.
In between, State plays NM, so we have a round robin!
This year's FCS opponent is Merrymack
