Stop talking about playoffs. Queue Jim Mora. that's for the coaches to reiterate. We're a message board of fans debating and talking the latest hot stove. My wife has a hot take: a W vs Harvard would mean the at large berth would still very much be in play. Mentally distracted against a very good team. HC wins that game at Fitton. Who knows? Let's win the next one. Or wait...is the season over already?

I think all the praise for our offense ignores the passing stats 7-21 85 yards. One could blame the weather, but Lafayette was 12-17, 262 And someone posted about losing Sluka to an FBS school. His passing today says otherwise. Getting behind by scoring only 7 points in the first half put us in a hole we never dug out of.

Takeaways from Fitton Field today:
->Lafayette dominated the first half. Troxel obviously knows what he's doing. HC and Lafayette are 1 and 1a and everyone else is far behind. ->Slow start was the difference (again). ->HC defense is young, inexperienced and undersized...and it shows. ->Matthew Sluka's performance is by far the best individual performance I have ever seen in person at Fitton and maybe college football overall. Yes I know his passing stats were not the best but he is a beast and a pleasure to watch. ->Weather was just another brick in the wall of a crappy summer and fall. It was brutal especially in the first half. ->Please get ride of ESPN+...the in-game timeouts are stupid long and too numerous. ->It was a great college football game.

I think he'll get a couple phone calls.

The passing performance was most puzzling as Lafayette’s passing defense has been suspect all year and Sluka is a very good passer

Great that he set the record.

I'm sure he would rather have the win but plaudits to him for the performance!

FCS record for most yards rushing in a game by a QB is 316 by Jerrick McKinnon of Georgia Southern in 2012 on 34 rushes. Sluka beat that.

Lafayette still has to play a seemingly improved and different Colgate team, Fordham, and Lehigh where you throw the records out the window, I’m told. They could trip up. Who knows. This defense will not be slowing down Army’s running attack. I don’t care who their quarterback is. Let’s not kid ourselves here. 7-4 is likely what we are looking at, which is obviously disappointing. 6-5 is also possible. Why should we think we’ll waltz into the Bronx and beat Fordham? But, maybe this team was just never good as advertised. We brought a lot of the “sexy” position / skilled players back, but losing some really key guys on defense that probably didn’t get enough credit made our defense a bad unit. No need to sugarcoat. It’s just a bad unit right now. I would say young more than bad - much more.

Great game by Sluka. Hope we can ride the bubble into the post season or something funky happens in Laffy's four remaining PL games. Princeton beat Harvard. Right now we have no quality wins. Essentially need the autobid. And Princeton's offense is terrible!

If we had more skilled sophs, juniors and seniors, we would not need to play so many freshmen. Capt. Obvious. Recruiting holes ?

Defensive play calling today was probably in the bottom three games of Chesneys career at Holy Cross. Our comers were getting burned early in the game especially on 3rd down. They continued leaving them 1 on 1 and blitzing safeties leaving them exposed. Lafayette QB sniffed out the blitzes with hard counts often and lit us up when it mattered. Whole scheme sucked.

Most rushing yards in a season by a qb in FCS is 1,844 by Jayson Foster of Georgia Southern in 2007 (261 Rushes) Most rushing yards in a career by a qb in FCS is 4,852 by Matt Cannon of Southern Utah from 1997-2000 (674 rushes)
I think he might have a shot at the career record if he returns next year.

I believe at least 2 of the passes up the seam from the slot (at least one was TE) came off pressure. They knew we had to blitz to get any pressure and took advantage of it up top. I was not surprised with Laffy's rushing total, I was surprised with the passing TD's. Looking forward to a combined 100 pts at Fordham.

The team is not good at stopping the run. It’s their Achilles heel. Young, injuries, - make whatever excuses you want, They can’t stop anyone. I thought they would be better, but they are what they are. Go Cross!

A tip of the hat to Lafayette. The better team on the field won the game, today. There is no embarrassment in losing to Lafayette. They are a fine team.

I believe efg was on the Zoom with me listening to Scott James and count on him and anyone else to keep my hearing and memory honest.
i think Scott said that we would have 8 “first year players” on defense (not necessarily freshmen but includes them plus perhaps sophomores who hadn’t played last year). I believe he said they were the fastest group he’s seen at HC. BUT, a huge but, they are inexperienced big time. The hope was they were gaining experience sooner rather than later and they had been working on stuff during the bye week.
If I heard all that correctly, the speed was less effective than the lack of experience plus nothing else they were trying to teach them during the bye week.
And, “special teams” just isn’t special anymore. The days of blocked punts, big kick off and punt returns and stopping them when defending have been a distant memory this season. The Harvard opening kick return was devastating. Laffy had a big one too that almost broke for a TD. What happened?!!!
