Got it. Thanks for clarifying. The only game that matters right now is Fordham, and I'm really not looking ahead, but it is fun to think about a road win at Syracuse next year where Sluka puts up Sluka numbers.

HC and Laffy has some top 5 graded players from PFF this week. I guess that's why games are played on the field and not on paper. QB: #2 Sluka 91 WR: #2 Coker 90 TE: #4 Gilbert (Laffy) 80 T: #2 Newman 84 LB: #1 Dobbs 91

Although that would be a nice opportunity for him, I really hope that doesn't happen. Gonna obviously root like crazy for HC to win that game, but if Sluka is running point at Syracuse, I absolutely want him to light up the ACC. Maybe he'll have a toe injury and will choose not to play against us.

Not sure our QB will be better positioned at HC next year in terms of team accomplishments/personal accolades/NFL prospects given future offensive line/protection situation. Of course that is part of the calculation he will have to make as well as an asessment of any FBS options, NFL aspirations, position change, etc. At the same time I don't know about the market for a one-year QB, FCS to FBS. I imagine it would have to be the perfect fit. A coach who is going to let "Sluka sluk," a team who needs a starting QB, a team with a good OL, etc. Lot of factors for Matt to consider. I was thinking Tony Muskett at UVA (from Monmouth)would be a good comparator … but he departed with 2 years of eligibility and a better arm. Although he found himself a near-perfect fit (going FCS to FBS as QB).

Sounds to me like HC is the perfect fit! Coach will let Sluka sluk, team needs him, we've got a good OL. I know there will be some OL changes next year but I'm liking our depth. While losing CJ and McMurtie will be big. Don’t forget starters Newman, Schon and Kelly have 5th year options. Add in utility reserve OL Declan Mac and that’s a good nucleus that could return. I don’t know if all 4 will but a couple will for sure and I wouldn’t rule out all 4. Plus, looks like Cam McNair (who played a lot as a soph in 2022) might be redshirting with an injured wrist. Would get him back as well as the likely starting RT. It’s also great that CJ is shooting up scout’s NFL prospect boards. Shows Luke (who also has Sunday ability) you can stay at HC for your 5th year and improve your draft status….especially with our schedule in 2024.

Or Sluka could go in the portal as a prospective one-year FBS QB AND eyeball his NFL QB chances via the analysis of the ‘experts’ (and otherwise) and if nothing looks good he could return to HC.
We’d take him back.
And Chesney might reciprocate by throwing him in to return a punt or two (as Edelman’s coach did) or shifting him to occasional slot receiver for Pesansky. To build his NFL stock.
No, I haven’t been drinking.

The game that put Gordie on the map was the 1986 17-14 win at Army......forget the exact stats....something like 105 total plays, 20 tackles etc.....NYC media picked it up.
As others have stated....he really wasn't "needed" much defensively in 1987....every single game was essentially ovah at halftime.
Just out of curiosity, did we evah get an attendance figure for the Lafayette? Really a shame that weather dampened both Homecoming and FW this season.

Not sure I follow your logic. Are you implying that if he didn't play defense he would have had a better chance of winning the Heisman? My understanding is that it was his two way play that earned him a spot in the Heisman conversation. I'd think that if he played only offense, he wouldn't have been in the conversation. I think hes trying to say that because the games were blowouts, we didn't have to use Gordie as often on defense. That hurt his Heisman chances because he had less defensive stats than if he'd played more snaps on that side of the ball. Yes, the whole reason Lockbaum was in that conversation on the national stage is BECAUSE he was a two-way player. Exactly what I was trying to say.

Well, for those who think that HC pads its attendance figures, the official box score attendance was (drum roll) . . . . . . . 0!Now, I was there. So was my wife, NAD, a Class Co-Chair, all of Coker's family and dog, Judd, and Jake Dobbs' father and that's just off the top of my head. Even 17 of the band were there until halftime. So, foley, don't tell me Holy Cross inflates its attendance numbers. If anything, they low-ball it! goholycross.com/sports/football/stats/2023/lafayette/boxscore/10439
