We had far better attendance during the RW years, in the PL. Were there many attractive non league home games then ? The home highlights of the Willard years were St Joseph and Fordham from the A-10. And frankly those Fordham teams were clearly the dregs of the A-10. Even UMass would only do a 2 for 1 with the one being at a neutral court (Centrum)

At Cooley's presser I got the feeling GU's Athletic Dept. went all out to get students to the game and everyone was aware of and appreciative of it. They harnessed (seeded?) enthusiasm for a new successful coach after a multi-year collapse under a previous coach. HC Athletics/promotions, the ball is in your court. Their announced attendance, 7,500, means there were 12,500 empty seats. Do they tarp off the upper level? The lead in game for the FS2 replay of the HC game at 1AM this morning was Long Beach State at DePaul. Similar big arena. It was a ghost town, much less enthusiasm than at GU-HC. This isn't the original Big East.

Sobel was a very good player at Midd. He's agile around the basket, a good passer and a decent defender. That said, he's still transitioning to the speed and physicality of D-1 hoops. He looked a bit overwhelmed at times in the Iona game. HC's bigs could have their hands full covering him.
Curious why Galette is not starting - he started every game except one the past two seasons. He is clearly SH's best player.

The SH minutes were pretty evenly distributed among the 8 listed

I watched the entire Iona/SHU game on ESPN+.
They play a high energy game and substitute freely.
It seems as though their number one goal offensively is to take it to the basket....and they were very successful doing that.
Unlike a lot of teams these days they were not constantly looking to set up three point shots but, when they did, shot 9 for 18.
Overall they are taller than HC. (Sobel is their tallest player at 6'8" but agree with ephoops that he looked overmatched and trying to adjust to DI speed in Iona game.) Several players 6'6" and 6'7" who got playing time.
It will be a tough game for us to win. They were ahead of Iona by 7 points with about 6 mins to go and faded down the stretch and lost by 7.

Very concerned when I saw that Richmond destroyed Siena 90-48.
That said, they played without Michael Eley who scored 24 against us and was injured late in our game.

Let’s play these games and enjoy a team that is well coached, fundamentally improved, and exciting to watch.
Winning in November is not something we are used to over the past five years. We might lose a few that we think we should win, but get us to late December with six wins and then watch out
For those looking for better home games on the schedule to draw students and a local crowd, I fear that won’t happen until we win 24 plus, leave the PL, and play three top 20 teams for our buy games.
We are on the right track, let’s get some wins✝️✝️✝️🏀🏀🏀🍀🍀🍀

HCDP accomplished something in his second game that his predecessor never was able to do.
Any guesses?

I will start with the ability to coach and begin teaching his team how to WIN
We are lucky the Committee made the right choice for the program, the alumni, and the community. And for me it was a critical choice for the game of basketball at Holy Cross, as CoachPaulsen has a love and respect for the game that is essential for us to do things the right way. Very similar to the Chesney way
Go Cross Go✝️✝️🙏

I am also concerned about the game tomorrow night. My gut tells me that as satisfying the win was over the Hoyas, we may find out that they aren't especially good and our win not that exceptional. That said, I guarantee you that if Brett Nelson was still our coach, our record would be 0-2.

This isn't the original Big East. DePaul plays in a much more reasonably-sized arena, 10K (home of the Chicago WNBA team as well). However, they are still 7 miles from the main campus. Have to start winning to get fannies in the seats.

Paulsen factor + the Georgetown win I'm optimistically saying 2,100 for the home opener. Hopefully enough Worcester locals have off Wednesday and are able to enjoy a Tuesday night out.
Student attendance will zilch. From my experience, campus is basically EMPTY by 4pm that day. I was always one of the weirdos that hung around to party and chase girls that one extra night and go home Wednesday after Kimball midday. Exception being Villanova lead up week in 2009 where I drove home to NY for dinner and then back to HC same night.

Yay, something to look fwd to this evening. So why are people saying student attendance will be minimal then?

Students have been pretty apathetic towards men’s basketball in recent seasons. I’m hoping the win at G’Town will bring out a fair number of students who desperately want a winning basketball program! Football has been able to draw students, perhaps that will have a carryover affect!

Brett would not have scheduled the game That is so true. But he was undefeated against DIII teams. Unless you count that game against UMass-Boston
