Massey has the following point spreads: HC at Winthrop (1-2) - Winthrop favored by 9 points (76-67) with a 77% chance for the win. HC vs Elon (1-2) - Elon favored by 3 pooints (71-68) with a 71% chance for the win. HC vs IUPUI (2-1) - Holy Cross by 4 (71-67) with a 77% chance for the win. This should be an interesting 3 days...putting it mildly. We could go anywhere from 0-3 to 3-0. This could be fun basketball weekend...or the start of a long list of negative posts.

I wonder what level our three opponents were playing at in 1947 and 1954 when Holy Cross was winning national championships? No criticism of those three fine institutions, just admiration for the little Catholic college on a hill, practicing in a barn, that conquered the world.

Other two certainly not considered "major college", although both were founded in the 1880s.

Two Bucknell connections to Winthrop:
1. Their opening night Center, Alex Timmerman, played for Bucknell the previous four years. He did a good job as a BU starter the final two years after wasting the first two years with weight issues. In Winthrop’s opener vs Clemson he played 25 minutes and had seven rebounds, but missed their next game against a D3 opponent with a minor injury. Then played some minutes off the bench in game three. He has always had a very high rebound rate and a good shooting percentage. Was second in the PL last year in rebounding and top ten in FG pct.
2. Winthrop’s head coach, Mark Prosser, was an assistant for five years under Pat Flannery early in his career. Flannery and his dad, Skip Prosser, were good friends.

13 Conference tournament championships, two weeks ranked in total. Impressive. Winthrop went D-1 in 1987, Elon moved up to D-2 in 1997 and D-1 in 1999. Welcome aboard.

Here are my odds on the 3 games, allowing for the customary takeout of about 16%
3 wins= 10-1 2 wins= 7-5 1 win= 1-1 0 wins= 5-1

Looks like Winthrop is very experienced. Lots of seniors and grad transfers. This will be a challenge.

In addition to Timmerman, Winthrop also has a transfer from UNH.
With the 3 games in 3 days, wondering if the freshmen (and maybe Kirkwood too) will get some extra minutes.
Tse looked to be hobbling rather noticeably the other night, so he might not be available. No clue on Rabs.

The work by the coaching staff must be next to impossible to prepare for three games in as many days - can you imagine how much tape they are reviewing and for games 2 and 3, the only prep would be in a meeting room in the hotel

For crying out loud, that's nearly 70 years ago we are talking about. While I am proud of our history, I don't use it to look down on opponents who lack that history...especially when at least one of them has a MUCH richer recent history than we do. Otherwise we might as well just spend our time watching the 1947 championship game on loop instead of watching the current team play.

They will be keying on Joe O. Big game possibilities for Batch, Caleb and Bo.

The work by the coaching staff must be next to impossible to prepare for three games in as many days - can you imagine how much tape they are reviewing and for games 2 and 3, the only prep would be in a meeting room in the hotel Each of the 3 assistants would be responsible for one scout. The time problem for the players is, as you note, games 2 and 3. When there is no court available for the usual day of game walk through, teams have used a hotel conference room, or if not possible, even a hotel lobby.

Or the football thread on the U Chicago board.
