Massey picks Maine by 2 (69-67) and gives tgem a 55% chance fir the win...a virtual toss-up. Maine is currently 4-2 with wins over Maine Presque Isle, Presbyterian, Northwestern LA, and South Florida. They lost to Merrimack and North Florida.

Massey has us as underdogs in every remaining D1 game on our schedule. A win against Maine after last night would be a nice morale booster.

Maine does have one good win against AAC team South Florida. I don't think this will be an easy game.

Maine does have one good win against AAC team South Florida. I don't think this will be an easy game. Unless the PL teams below us are a lot worse than HC, there is one easy game left the rest of the way. It is really a humbling experience for this oldtimer to look at games vs Q and CCSU as tough games. It is what it is.

I see this team getting better as the season rolls on. They will have trouble with big teams, Colgate for instance, but will hold their own in the other league games. I’m looking forward to seeing the Maine game in person, to gauge for myself how they are improving. Right now, improving might not show in wins but in how and what they do.

That's almost a direct quote from DP to a few of us at The District basketball kickoff event as to how this season was likely to go. You are a good listener! My take: "progress, not wins." He did a fine job in lowering expectations that night.

We're rebuilding. Any DI win is a big win at this point. One game at a time.

One key for this group, and I think a critical piece, is to halt the bleeding. If a team goes on a 6-0 or 8-0 run they need to get a stop and not try not to get it all back at once which can lead to a 16-0/20-0 run like last night. If we do that we can work our way back into a game like Siena and Georgetown. Our staring five must be one of the smallest in the country.

If this season is going to basically be about improving, at some point, do you turn to your 5 recruits for major minutes and let them grow?

If this season is going to basically be about improving, at some point, do you turn to your 5 recruits for major minutes and let them grow? No. The best way to learn is to have the team compete and win the games that are winnable. and secure as good a PL record as possible. The freshmen will get plenty of minutes. The coach cannot just tell the returnees that they will not play if they show in practice that they deserve time.

Good coaches find a way to seamlessly integrate the guys they recruited with the guys they inherited. Plenty of Gilmore recruits were key cogs on Chesney championship teams.

I know you want to build a culture as well and reducing some of the upperclassmen minutes might not be the best way to do it. You can also argue they deserve respect for sticking around thru the coaching change when they could have left with 2 years of eligibility left. I also said at some point, not now.

Maine has been on the road forever. The Columbia game came at the end of an 11 day/4 game Florida roadtrip....dumb scheduling.
That being said....I think that Holy Cross has a good chance to win this at home. Maine has been up and down....very erratic in from game to game. I see Holy Cross winning 72-67.

I foresee this being a tough game. This isn't the Maine of Richard Barron or Bob Walsh days. Chris Markwood seems to have this train going in the right direction.
13-17 record last season.
4-4 this season with an impressive win at South Florida.
Currently ranked 263rd by Pomeroy.

This will be a good one to set the tone for December and beyond. Expect to see a tough game with the Crusaders benefitting from a fully supportive home court crowd. #GoCrossGo
