Thanks for sharing! Just read the write-up. SDSU, NDSU, and the Montanas would be very interesting to both the MW and, possibly, Pac 12. I would certainly look to add them before poaching some CUSA teams like UTEP and New Mexico St. I wonder what the FCS landscape would look like at the top should those 4 fine institutions of gridiron football make the jump. I'd love to see more of a scenario in which FBS and FCS split into 3 tiers with bottom G5 teams and top FCS teams in one subdivision.

I think the PAC's next move will be to go after some AAC teams and look to expand into at least 3 time zones just like the "P3" conferences did. I was shocked that UNLV wasn't one of the 1st 4 invited but imagine they'll be in. They will go after at least one Texas school, either UTSA or even SMU. Memphis and South Florida will probably be on the radar. I don't see the Dakota schools getting a sniff to join the new PAC but they absolutely could/should get invites to the Mountain West along with Montana, Montana State and Idaho.
I think you'll see Air Force move football to the AAC and maybe go the Army/Navy model and keep their other sports in a more local league, either the Big Sky, Summit or the diluted MWC.

If the Pac gets an automatic bid to the CFP, which remains to be seen, I don't see why Stanford and Cal would want to continue schlepping their Olympic sports across the country multiple times a year. Take it with a grain of salt, but I saw this from an article: "Multiple sources have told On3 it’s a logical move for Cal and Stanford to join the Pac-12 if a window opens to leave the ACC." The new PAC likely won't get an auto to the CFP. The league will basically be the western-ish version of what Big East football would've been had it continued for another 5 years. It will also be susceptible to getting poached as any of those schools would leave for the Big 12 at the drop of a hat. If the ACC splits like I think it will, one option for Stanford and Cal could be to stay in the ACC for football only and bring other sports to the WCC. This "new" ACC would effectively be a form of "Magnolia League", "Ivy on steroids" with the likes of Duke, Wake, Pitt, Syracuse, BC, Georgia Tech ,possibly Tulane and/or Rice. Not the same academically but UConn could also land over here in football, or maybe the American calls them back and offers them a football-only spot if it gets poached. How come the Big 12 or Big 10 aren't considering Stanford/Cal -- wouldn't the Bay Area market be a factor? Big 12 is in the Pacific Time Zone now with AZ but not in CA.

I'd love to see more of a scenario in which FBS and FCS split into 3 tiers with bottom G5 teams and top FCS teams in one subdivision. Unlikely for a couple of reasons:
1. The NCAA isn't springing for three championships in D1 football when two of them would lose money. 2. There are really only two subdivisions in college football: FBS and Everyone Else. None of the G5 schools would have any interest in moving "down" and joining Everyone Else. If they did, they'd already be FCS. There are good reasons why schools go from FCS to FBS rather than the other way around.

All 3 Academies in the same conference? With the ACC and Big Ten on the left coast now and the Big 12 also from sea to shining sea, it isn't that much of a stretch for a team in the MST joining the EST and CST league. Only about a 2 hour flight from Colorado Springs to Dallas and SMU.

And I heard they MIGHT have access to some easier air travel than the rest of us!

New this morning - x.com/SamHerderFCS/status/1836049179782635779Re-emerging PAC 12 eyeing Tulane, UNLV and Memphis. There might not be a Mountain West by 2026 for the Dakotas and/or Montanas to join even if they were looking to make a move to FBS. The UNLV piece is a bit tricky cause Nevada - Reno wants to be a part of any UNLV move as a packaged deal but they are less desirable than just the Runnin’ Rebs.

All of this talk focused (rightly) on football realignment reminds me of what Brian Kelly suggested last year and that is for schools to play football in one conference and other sports in a more geographical league. It is just silly to have basketball and minor olympic sports teams traveling (often in the middle of the week) all over the country.

Chip Kelly early and often.

Some have mentioned UConn for football and Gonzaga for everything else. No worse (actually better, because it's only one sport that plays weekly) than Stanford and Cal in the ACC.
