Similar to another recent thread, what is your ‘Mt. Rushmore’ of HC Football (ie. Players, Coaches, etc)?

Fenerty Osmanski Morris Lockbaum
Promuto or Morris would be fine as my fourth.

Tough to get to four but you have to for this intriguing metaphor. Great suggestion with the four listed but that leaves off Osmanski and Sluka, but who would we bump to put them in the top four???

I have put Osmanski for Promuto Matt Sluka was great, but the PL was not what Osmanski, Morris, Fenerty or Lockbaum faced. Gordie was a Heisman finalist two times.

Very hard to leave a guy off the list who accomplished this in three seasons (and none of it against PL competition):
"Fenerty graduated as the all-time leading rusher in both Holy Cross and New England history with 3,670 career rushing yards."

...or necessary. Why not call this list Holy Cross Apples, Oranges and Bananas? How on earth does one compare Eddie Anderson's coaching with Randolph or others at QB in any meaningful way? It is fun, but IMHO has no real meaning. I am thankful no one is doing any thing like this in the real world.

LOL, the backbone and constant of sports fandom is arguing/discussing the greatest this or the greatest that across eras (and within eras). And colleges do much the same via Hall of Fame and Ring of Honor voting. ('Real meaning', or otherwise.) And BTW Randolph does not belong on Holy Cross' Mount Rushmore (I'm not even sure the fellas on the real Mount Rushmore could get there again but that's another story) I'm not sure he is even the best of the PL-era QBs (Wiley? Sluka?).

Greatest players selected by distinctly demarcated eras? Pre WWII, Post War, 1AA/FCS?

Holy Cross Ring of Honor goholycross.com/sports/2019/8/30/crusader-football-legends-ring-of-honor
Major props to the late great Crusader visionary Ron Maheu ‘64 who carried this torch and provided the inspiration to make it a reality.
I personally believe the Ring of Honor brings real richness to the tradition of HCFB while elevating the storied history of the program and Fitton Field.
We share the above link with current Crusaders and encourage them to get to know the individuals who displayed the stuff of legends while wearing the Purple.
Great to be a Crusader.

My impression has been it’s a while since anyone was inducted. The list confirms the impression. Why no inductions (or even nominees) since 2018?

That certainly makes sense. Any thoughts (guesses) as to who might be the next ones to be considered?

Sorry, missed McCabe and COVID restrictions makes sense for missing 2020 and maybe 2021 but not 2022 & 2023. I hope it just lost some momentum coming out of COVID and picks it up again soon.

It might be something to mark the beginning of a new era at HC (and for Coach Curran's first game as Holy Cross head coach).

Not that there are not more Crusaders most worthy of induction and discussions on that topic are ongoing but we also want to make sure that the overall ROH does not lose its very special nature.
By spacing out inductions at this point, the belief is that the ROH does not run the risk of being “diluted” or declining in its true allure and distinction.
We also closely monitor the overall number of inductees relative to the number of HCFB alumni who have been inducted into the HoF.
So rest assured there is a thoughtful process and consideration very much at work to manage this special corner of HCFB.

Agree that this honor should be the apex of accolades for football players. At some point (not yet!) Matt Sluka and Jacob Dobbs should be included. I am not aware that, like a baseball HOF, there is an elapsed time element before consideration but there should be if not. While perhaps not official, it seems that there is at least an unofficial waiting period. I would definitely support not having this become an annual induction process as this would almost force diluting the quality of inductees.

Why is Coach Mark Duffner not in the Ring of Honor? He belongs, no?

So a coach, who is not a player, gets "honorary" membership. Makes sense.

BTW, two things:
1. the above list should be a great "cheat sheet" for those who want to create a Mt. Rushmore 2. Bob Chesney should also be in the ROH after an appropriate waiting period
