JMO the number of offers received as well as where they are coming from are a much better indicator than rating stars. For the most part, D1 coaches know who can play at this level and who can’t.

Did Hero publish a similar list last year?

I don't know and I don't remember seeing one. I know they did publish a Top 25 FCS Recruits list, similar to the one published this year, so it is possible.

Thank you for sharing the link. I note that while some of the data reflects "## other offers", none of the players listed with specific schools shows an offer from Holy Cross that was passed on to go elsewhere.
Chesney magic?

Holy Cross did offer at least three of the players on the list that committed to other schools --
#7 RB RaShawn Allen -- committed to Lehigh
#8 OL Charlie Gross (Loyola Academy) -- committed to Fordham
#13 DB Cameron Blair -- committed to Fordham.

Too bad we missed out on RaShawn Allen. Excellent student and great HS player—the kind of running back that HC has longed for. Hopefully, the running backs that we recruited will match or surpass his output for the Mountain Hawks.

In basketball the recruit whose impending arrival excited me the most in the past decade or so was Austin Butler and he is delivering in spades. For football it is Justin Bruno. I can’t wait to see him in a HC uniform!!

(Actually, running backs with big frosh seasons are pretty common FCS/FBS) So we'll know pretty quickly if he's got it.

As one poster noted, Bruno's highlights show him lining up as a wide receiver on numerous plays. I'm wondering if he might be similar to Brendan Flaherty -- recruited as a running back but also capable of switching to wide receiver where he might be used on jet sweeps or bubble screens.

Surprising that HC still has any scholarship money left.

Bishop Gorman is ranked 13th nationally. A traditional power. OOC games against schools in MD, FL, and powerhouses in CA like De LaSalle and Mater Dei.

Ng seems like a very strong prospect. Offer from Army. Interest from USC, Washington, Va Tech and others. 7th rated kicker in the country.

Appears Chesney values having a good kicker (and possibly using scholarship money on them) as evidenced by his assumption kicker doing a grad year and playing for LSU next season.

Our history proves what kicking failures can cause.

I believe Tony Melink, '85 (kicker from Moeller High School coached by Gerry Faust) was a considered something of a recruiting coup in Rick Carter's first recruiting class. Would consider it a good omen if Chesney were able to do something similar.

Funny you should mention Tony Melink. When I saw that Ng is only 5-9, I immediately thought of "Tony the Toe."

I have a firm memory of Tony Melink on campus but I cannot recall if the buzz was that Rick Carter was so wise he spent schollie money to bring in a kicker (that may have been a break from the past) or that he was able to win him from other programs. In any case, it was a great move and Melink seemed to have been a talent that much of our opposition at the time did not have.

This young man would be a " coup " for HC and create a connection with an excellent program.....

In any case, it was a great move and Melink seemed to have been a talent that much of our opposition at the time did not have. Freshman year, I lived a couple of doors down the hall from Tony in Carlin, so I knew him a little and was curious if I was mis-remembering the buzz coming in.
I checked the archives of the Crusader, and, in an April 10, 1981 story about the recently signed football & basketball recruits (my how times and timing have changed in recruiting!) for the incoming the class of 1985
Other than half a dozen "local" recruits from Mass, the only other football recruit mentioned was Pete Muldoon.

Is Derek too tall to be the "New Melink"?
