Butler’s game tonight reminds me of Cullen Hamilton at Providence several years ago. I think he was something like 1-14 that game.

I like that we’re now at a point that people are angry we didn’t beat Providence. We’re going to be very competitive in the PL. SBU will be a tough test Friday night.

Both the coach and player can’t allow a 1-14 night. Either the player has to know they are having an off night and defer or the coach has to yank him. 2-27 isn’t playable basketball. That player needs to find other ways to contribute. He’s 6’5 - rebound or defend or get to the line. If you can’t do any of those three then sit. John Starks had a similar, horrible shooting night. When asked about Starks' poor shooting night, coach Riley replied to the effect: Shooters shoot. I hope that the HC player will stick to his guns and when open keep taking his shot , as all hard nosed players do. Love HC ..he really has no choice- you can't pass up layups you gotta make most of them or at least get to the foul line. I saw maybe 35 minutes of the game, i don't remember him shooting from the outside very much at all.

Saw the game. I'm very proud of the effort by the HC players. They are a well coached, enthusiastic group. I share the frustrations of many but in my view any criticism should be tempered by the realization that it was a close game and a less than 10 point loss against a big time opponent. Good PL wins are sure to follow. LoveHC First, I’ll take AB on my team any day of the week - and all day long. And based on the first half against the Maize & Blue (which I didn’t see), and the first 39 minutes tonight, I’m VERY confident that we’ll compete well in the PL. I think UofM and PC have more size, more quickness and more depth than a PL all-star team. If we stay healthy, I expect that we’ll play more than one home game in the post-season.

As NAD said, Austin can play on my team anytime he wants. He’s in a slump. He’ll bounce back and be fine. He’ll be in the Hart Center shooting right after the bus pulls into campus at 10:30 tonight if anyone is looking for him.

Hell, yeah, Benzan should be in there...7 assists, 5 rebounds. Good down the other end too.
But I wish he'd shoot about half as much as he does. Those floaters against the tall timber usually don't fall. 2-7 tonight.

Carmody tied his own arms behind his back in a way by not having anyone from the Charles, Zignorski, LeShaun, or Cohen scholarships available to contribute on the wing tonight.

Carmody is a fine coach....as nht mentioned and people texted me at the game, we are up 4 at halftime and Fox Sports doesn't even make mention of us....we are a non-entity in the d1 hoop world today sadly, no matter what we do really

No reason to be so sensitive about ABs poor play. I’m sure he’s a great kid who fights. Just have to be self aware and change your game on a nightly basis if shot not falling and do other things to help win.
Nothing to do with effort. Results are results.

I had the distinct impression that the "halftime show" had been taped in advance; it was an Ed Cooley love fest and had no discussion of the game in progress. Can't be sure, of course, but it just seemed to be totally unrelated to the game.

Breezy is right. There was no analysis of the first half, so it was pre-taped.
I still think we are probably a .500 team this year, plus or minus a couple of games in either direction.

Regardless if it was taped or not....it just shows how far we have fallen in the eyes of the media...we might as well be Bryant today. Just very sad when you think of the historic HC-PC basketball rivalry.

Again, to not even have a live half-time show is kind of a "slap in the face"....."It's a Holy Cross game, nobody cares..."

I know, what a shame and then the announcer at the end of the game says Ed Cooley is challenging his team with its schedule. Playing Albany FDU, Rhode Island Umass Iona? I think I know another team playing those same teams?

The announcers at the game never said anything about the HC lead before the start of the 2nd half. This was a PC broadcast

I still think we are probably a .500 team this year, plus or minus a couple of games in either direction. That's what I thought too before I watched the first three games. This team is good and well coached and, if we avoid injuries to our key players, I now really believe we can compete for the PL championship. Go Cross!

KenPom’s calculations of offensive and defensive efficiency moved us up a few spots to #198 after tonight’s game. Of course no one is happy being #198—just pointing out that we have moved up

87 mentioned the historic HC-PC rivalry and I remembered attending a game vs PC at the Worcester Auditorium as a student when PC had Ernie D and Marvin Barnes. I can't remember if it was before or after Kevin Stacom transferred from HC to PC, but the HC students seated behind the Friar bench kept yelling "Tire Iron, Tire Iron!" at Barnes every time he came out of the game, referencing an alledged incident in his past. I thought it was a bit un-sportsmanlike, but PC was prepared. A large asst. coach was stationed next to Barnes at all times preventing him from going after the HC students.

RIP Bad News Barnes....a uniquely talented but troubled RI kid....heard many of his exploits ovah the years from people who knew him well.
Just having a hard time, per usual, of seeing how much we gave up by not joining the Big East tonight....this (HC-PC) was such a great rivalry in its day...to think that we are just another creampuff (in their eyes today) just bothers me to no end.

Yes. I attended all of the Colonial Classic games at Boston Garden back in the Potter-Vicens-Perry days and although HC perhaps wasn't a national power they were certainly a regional power, even without the benefit of a league membership. Willard's teams started to rebuild momentum, and then he was gone.
