How is HC in regard to health/injuries? Will any key personnel be missing for this game?

I believe the underclassmen are, like their coaches, taking the season one game at a time. Their play has been solid and seems to be constantly improving.

Personally (and from a distance, to be sure) the freshmen and sophomores seem to be carrying their share of the load so far. Sitting in the stands it appears that they are too. And doing it very well.

The gravity of this game is lost on the underclassmen Chance to start 3-0 in the league Revenge for the juniors and seniors against their former coaches A must win for PLC dreams to stay alive One can only hope freshman and sophomores can understand the situation and acquire the feelings of passion from the upperclassmen If that happens Saders by a million That concept of revenge for the juniors and seniors is an interesting one. TG didn't cut the current juniors and seniors, rather HC fired TG. I think the juniors and seniors are probably passionate about winning this game against their former coach and winning the league in either their last or next to last chance to do so and thus naturally have an even greater sense of urgency than the younger players who have more chances ahead of them. But if comments on this board are a guide, I don't pick up on anyone being angry at TG or wanting revenge against him for anything he did. I agreed with the coaching change when it was made, but I think TG could be considered a good role model for the players or anyone in the way he handled his transition.

the worst i heard about coach gilmore was that he was too old fashioned, stuck to fundamentals, not "creative". i would rather have that approach than a coach who has "tricks up his sleeve"
coach gilmore got shafted by the A.D. but refused to cry foul and instead continued to bleed purple. i can only wish him well and much success (except this saturday 11/02.)
GO 'SADERS!!!

You may or may not like Gilmore, however, it's impossible not to respect him for who he is and what he has accomplished. Obviously, people that succeeded under him will have a different perspective than those that didn't.
Did Pine fire Gilmore in person or via text? From my limited time watching Pine and Gilmore, it's hard to picture in person. haha.
I am honestly really happy that Gilmore landed at Lehigh because he is a better fit in PA than MA. If I was on his staff, I would be so excited about hitting the recruiting trail in PA and NJ.

my recollection is that coach gilmore was "let go" on sunday the day after the loss to yale. entirely a classless move by a classless A.D.

One of my close friends was on the Penn team with Tom Gilmore. He told of being in some bar with a bunch of players and one of the Quakers starting misbehaving, embarrassing the team or the school or both. My buddy said he looked and saw a huge fist come flying and absolutely laying the miscreant out. Problem solved. FCTG is one tough, intimidating guy.

TG is the type of guy who if you don't want to play for him or buy into his overall message, I'm sorry competitive sports aren't for you.

“Prone to give up the big play” sounds good as HC may have the deepest corps of big play threats it has ever had Like our guys but let’s not get crazy.

I'll suggest that Gilliam, Ayeni, and Asante are deep threats and that Cozier is the likeliest Crusader to break off a 50 yard run that we've had in a very long time. Then there's Derek Mountain. I'm not suggesting they'll all be going to the NFL but those guys are not just "possession receivers". One man's opinion-of course

I have tremendous respect for both CTG and HCBC and know that they have tremendous respect for each other. In fact, very shortly after TG was let go in an unceremonious and classless style on that Sunday after the Yale game, Coach Chesney embraced TG and encouraged him to come 'hang' with him and staff at Assumption. On the flip side, some here may recall that the hiring process of our new coach seemed to go on for an extended period of time. Whom did TG recommend that HC hire early on in the process? HCBC.
TG bled Purple with the best of us and cared and worked like very few men/women I have encountered on Mt. St. James. Football is the ultimate team sport both on and off the field requiring support of all involved in order to have real long term success. The fact that a Patriot League AD with ~30 years worth of experience in the league hires a coach who had been dismissed by another PL school would seem to have some strong messages in there as to how things work behind the scenes but I digress.
MANY parents both past and present have shared with me how much they appreciated TG's 'character development' of their sons and how he delivered exactly what he had sold during the recruiting process. The same is said of HCBC. This says a lot about both of these truly fine men. I am honored to count them both as close friends. I welcomed supporting TG and certainly welcome doing the same for HCBC and staff.
Not that I needed further confirmation of a divine presence but the current Patriot League standings and this weekend's game would seem to indicate that the Man upstairs may have a passing interest (pardon the pun) in this stuff and a wee bit of a sense of humor to boot.
Looking forward to this Saturday's game and what I believe is the best of athletics in all sports both amateur and professional, that is, true student athletes competing at the Division 1 level.
LET'S WIN!!

One man's opinion-of course I have to agree that we seem to have several offensive guys this year who are apparent mismatches v PL defenses. And are threats to break it long in our upcoming games in a manner I haven't seen in quite a while at HC. (I do recognize that the PL is not a strong conference so folks that are threats to break off a long run/catch v PL opposition may not necessarily meet with great success v our OOC [FBS and otherwise] ) On a different note (and relative to former coach TG), I did sit with a couple of folks at Yale who were at TG's last game at Yale and they had very clear recollections of what they believed was the straw that broke the camel's back regarding his firing. These were folks whose kids played for TG and, of course, had a particular perspective.

I have NOTHING against FHCTG
BUT, he should have been fired the morning after the HC - Fordham game in Yankee Stadium.

I never met Gilmore, but, judging by comments on this board, he's apparently a decent human being who loved HC. Unfortunately, he wasn't having much success on the gridiron (to put it mildly!) and winning football games was what he was being paid to do when all is said and done. I wasn't able to get to that infamous Yale game, but, talking to guys who did, the team was downright awful that afternoon. I'm not here to defend Pyle and there are no doubt many reasons why Gilmore's teams didn't perform better in recent years, but there's also no doubt it was time for a change. But enough of Gilmore. Let's declaw that Mountain Hawk this Saturday!

Let's declaw that Mountain Hawk this Saturday! "... winning football games was what he was being paid to do when all is said and done." WRONG! NFL coaches are paid to win football games. college football coaches are/should be paid to coach(teach) the sport of football at the college level. this includes the starters and players who never get to see a down of game time. even my simple understanding of math/statistics tells me that every team cannot always have a winning season. imho, this is an important distinction that is commonly overlooked, ignored, ridiculed. agreed that it was time for coach gilmore and holy cross to move on but we did no better that season after the yale game than we were doing before. that was very predictable so the midseason "sunday morning massacre" was dead wrong! this move not only hurt his chances for rehire but also made the school look bad. (who wants to take this job if a big loss will get you fired on the spot???) coach gilmore should have been treated with respect and let go at the end of the season. ok, now that's "enough of gilmore".

"agreed that it was time for coach gilmore and holy cross to move on but we did no better that season after the yale game than we were doing before."
HC did win 3 of the last 4 games and the big win over Fordham (the team that humiliated HC at Yankee Stadium) was certainly "better" (42-20). Ironically, HC's last game that year was a loss to Lehigh (21-34).

As others have pointed out, we were still very much in the running for the PL championship after the game and we had played other one-sided games before w/TG at the helm.

FHCTG has the 2nd longest tenure as head football coach at HC after a guy named Anderson....yes, the firing was completely mangled, but it was time to move on. From the high school level on up, just about every head coach in the premier sports is "hired to be fired" someday...it's the nature of the beast.
As for the game Saturday, I haven't seen the Engineers this season so I really don't know what to expect from them. They have been "cardiac kids" lately...winning their last 3 games on the last play of the game. And, yes, maybe FHCTG's mojo needed a change of residence in that regard.
Captain Obvious, but I think if we play a relatively clean game (no/minimal TO's, killer penalties, bad D breakdowns etc etc) we should prevail but as we all know, games very rarely play out that way. My gut is that if this game was at Fitton, we win by 2 TDs or so...down there, it's going to be a dogfight.

Home field advantage is typically 3 points, right?
