IMHO, the only way Nova, W&M, and Richmond would even consider jumping to the PL is if all of the following occurred: 1) Delaware jumped to FBS 2) PL changed its rules to allow non medical redshirts. 3) PL dumped the AI 4) PL went max on FB scholarships (moving from 60 to 63) 5) They all agreed to jump together 6) They could just join PL for football and remain in CAA/Big East/A10 for their other sports 100% accurate.

Flo Sports? The "K-Mart Kennedy" of Sports Streamers. Who pays for the announcers, the cameras, the camera operators, etc in these streaming deals? If the schools pay, how much profit can there be? Perhaps some of the production is done by students in a relevant major? I really have no idea

Rumor has it that Delaware will leave the CAA in the near future and follow James Madison into the FBS. (Some support for that rumor is the recent "no comment" response of UD's president to a question about the rumor posed by a big donor in a private meeting, as conveyed to me by an attendee at that meeting.) A friend of mine is a W&M alum and a big supporter of Tribe football. He tells me that folks in Williamsburg are not happy with the departure of JMU and possibly UD and less than impressed with recent additions to the conference. If I were the PL, I'd be paying close attention. There may be an opportunity at some point to persuade one or more CAA schools (think W&M, Richmond, and/or Villanova) to join the PL in football. A long shot perhaps, but nothing ventured, nothing gained. I also heard that Delaware has its sights set on FBS football. Again, I see the FBS as an enterprise that will continually expand for the foreseeable future, akin to college basketball. But who knows? It's also entirely possible that the "Super Leagues" break off from the FBS, leaving 3 tiers of D1 football. That said, I just don't see why a CAA team would bolt for the Patriot League. Doesn't the CAA allow redshirts? I could be wrong on that, but it's a stronger conference with better rules for developing a football program. The PL needs to "get with the times" if it wants to attract new commodities. EDIT: The main article is paywalled, but here's a link to a post regarding Delaware's FBS plans: www.reddit.com/r/CFB/comments/y3ggog/delaware_potentially_preparing_to_move_up_to_fbs/There are already three tiers of Div I football, and this is officially recognized by the NCAA. The three are FBS autonomy schools; FBS non-autonomy; and FCS. There is little financial advantage to a school that jumps from FCS to FBS non-autonomy. And I am unaware of any FCS school that has jumped to FBS autonomy since the tiers were created. A decade or so ago, I remember reading the NCAA revenue and expense reports of several MAC schools and they were not carrying the full allotment of football scollies on their rosters. Instead of the 85 allowed, the number of scollie players were in the 70s.

PL FB is the most boring two bid conference in FCS. No membership changes in ages, none expected. A long shot perhaps, but nothing ventured, nothing gained. The CAA seems like an oversized mishmash of schools. Fifteen in the football conference. It wouldn’t come as a surprise if some of them are open to change even if Delaware remains in the CAA.

Despite the fact that odds are long on any of this, I still contend the more likely candidates to leave the CAA at some point are the 4 northern most football only affiliate members (UNH, URI, Maine and Albany off the top of my head). As the CAA becomes a more Mid-Atlantic/Southern Conference, I just don’t see Richmond, W&M and Villanova leaving.

Totally agree, midwest.
With schools like Campbell, Hampton, and NC A&T joining, you've got to believe the four schools you mentioned had one collective eye roll.

And if it is a question of cost one must remember the school can decide on particulars .

The referencing of reputation is shallow. It would be great if a school's reputation flowed from its academic quality. Often, it does not. Unfortunately, some confuse reputation as measured in discredited commercial rankings with academic excellence & integrity. They are not necessarily the same. Look at it this way. In the private sector a great reputation is commonly purchased and is not related to the truth about an individual or business. Tertiary academic institutions regularly follow a similar path in various commercial rankings. IMO using reputation as the ultimate measuring stick is pointless. Honestly, there are some who want a more highly emphasized sports program at HC. That is fine. It makes no sense to contort oneself into bogus academic arguments to push for sports.

I don't think that the issue regarding non medical redshirts is about reputation. I think that the issue is about a common undergraduate experience with classes which enter and leave together. I personally think that high retention and four year graduation rates at HC and other small LACs are a big positive.
That said, I don't think that 6 or 8 football players per class who take an extra semester would be detrimental to the experience of the student body as a whole.
For me, I just really don't get the 60 scholarship limitation.

If it's 60 vs 63, then I would rather see those 3 scholarships going to baseball

I always think of Hop Riopel and his 2 scholarships per year - almost always to pitchers. Those scholarships gave HC some pretty good teams. Two points, we also got scholarship players from other teams (basketball and football, for two examples) who played baseball. And, in our class he gave one to an outstanding catcher/hitter - Kelly IIRC. They paid off quite nicely.

I don't want two Southern schools joining the PL so that subject is ridiculous to me. Regarding the flood plain, I always chuckle when that term is raised because I have been attending games at Fitton since the mid sixties and never remember the gridiron being flooded (grass torn up and muddy, yes). How often do they test to see if an area still qualifies as a flood plain? The Great Salt Lake is evaporating so flood plains near it must be losing their designation.

I think if the New England schools ever leave the CAA it will likely be because they decide to spearhead America East Football. Such a development has become more possible now that Bryant is in the America East for all sports. Merrimack would also be a great all-sports fit with football as they have longstanding relationships with Maine, UNH and Vermont in hockey. If America East could bring in Merrimack, convince Holy Cross to join as an all-sports member and bring in Fordham as a football affiliate, you'd be staring at a solid 8-team conference. Potentially 9 if UMASS ever decided to detour back to FCS. I don't think travel is any worse for the New England schools with the recent southern additions, because now the CAA has a POD system. You might actually see LESS miles traveled now.

The boundaries of a flood plain are based on actual flooding events. I am having trouble embedding the actual images, but this link to the National Archives has six photographs of the 1955 flooding in Worcester. nara.getarchive.net/search?q=%23worcester%20%23floodOne of the photographs is of Webster Square. The area around Webster Square drains into the Middle River, which flows by Fitton Field. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From the T&G: Cambridge St. at McKeon Road. This is the Middle River flowing up through the sewer manholes. No description needed.

The US Army Corps of Engineers addressed the flood of 1955 by building several dams but I'm not sure of what was done that protects Fitton. I'm thinking with flood control improvements the actual vulnerability to flooding may be different 68 years later.
