Because I'm a sicko, you better believe I'm seeing this through. The following teams were eliminated yesterday: Hampton Tennessee State Elon Duquesne The following teams are still able to reach seven Division 1 wins. Those who are not listed here will not be able to receive an at-large bid. Big Sky Montana Idaho Montana State Sacramento State UC Davis Big South / OVC UT Martin Gardner-Webb Eastern Illinois CAA Delaware Richmond Villanova Albany William & Mary Rhode Island Missouri Valley South Dakota State South Dakota Northern Iowa Southern Illinois North Dakota State North Dakota Youngstown State Illinois State Patriot Lafayette Fordham Holy Cross Pioneer Davidson Drake Southern Furman Chattanooga Mercer Western Carolina Southland Incarnate Word Nicholls UAC Austin Peay Central Arkansas Duquesne of the N.E.C. is 6-4. Not sure if they are locked as the auto bid with two other teams capable of tying them at 5-2 in the league. But if they get to seven wins no other team can win the title and if they end up at 6-5 they might still get the auto bid but no N.E.C. team will get seven wins.

If Merrimack beats Duquesne next week, they'll get the auto bid (both teams will have finished 5-2 in the NEC, but Merrimack wins by virtue of head to head). LIU could finish in a three way tie with Duquesne and Merrimack, but they'd lose the tiebreaker having lost to both of these schools.

A Merrimack win would give the tiniest nano edge to HC's tiny nano at large chances and give us a quality win over a playoff team for whatever that is worth if we get into the tournament in any way.

Start looking at the bubble team that might finish with their FCS record at 7-2 or 8-3
Ranked wins Bad loses FBS wins SOS
Our resume looks better than I thought if the Committee follows the process it has put out to the public- we aren't in great shape but better than many might think, including Stat voters

Still too many(35) in SOV(7-4) contention. Go Lehigh!

Just saw the NCAA released the D3 bracket. 32 teams. Too many for FCS?

We win and we are 7-2 in the FCS not 7-4
Still might not be good enough but we are being evaluated as 7-2 SOS 47 No ranked wins No FBS wins No bad loses

4 FCS wins over FBS in 2023, including a win by Fordham Not many bubble teams have two FBS losses including one P-5, by a combined total of six points. Laffy lost to Duke 42-7.

It will be (very) hard to keep a straight face claiming we do have a quality win after all because we’re one of the five teams (including Lehigh, Wagner, and Sacred Heart) that beat Merrimack (#86 Massey).

Too much to process this early. On the positive side for the CAA, because it has 3 teams well within the top 20 and an additional 3 on the bubble they’ll get 4-ish in the playoffs.

Really, guys? Come on. We know that they only way the Crusaders get into the playoffs is as the automatic PL champion qualifier which means a win over Georgetown and a Lafayette loss to Lehigh. No other way. No other permutations are getting us in. We know it. The players know it. The coaching staff knows it. We win Saturday and Lafayette wins Saturday, a tie goes to Laffy in the head-to-head and with neither a win over BC nor Army, close as we came, was "close but no cigar." We are out and finished for the season. Painful as that is to write.
We can't get in without help from the Mountain Hawks.
I don't happen to care whether some conference gets 3 or 4 or 5 teams into the playoffs. I care about one team - Holy Cross. And the PL isn't getting 2 teams this season but would have for sure if we beat BC and Army. We didn't. Close counts only in horseshoes and grenade throwing.

Only two schools not on this list have been in the finals in the last 20 years; one of them, St. Thomas, is now FCS.

Morning eye opener. Lafayette wins and HC is out. Next. Will there be new calls for HC to go bigger - CAA or whatever? This call is made under the mistaken illusion HC would have the same record 7-4 playing against tougher opponents. and would have made the playoffs. Go to the CAA even though HC has next to nothing in common with larger state universities in the CAA. Of course some will recycle the empty reputation argument & all the rest when in reality the whole point is to play higher level football with all the increased & unsustainable expense & lowered academics. More than ever it is obvious the PL is the right fit for HC. Thank you, Fr. Brooks.

Agree with your entire post...but I think that we'd have been on the right side of the bubble at 8-3 with a win over Army.

I wasn’t suggesting we were in or out, but how to follow the work of the committee which is what the thread is about. We aren’t automatically out on the first round of votes, but maybe make the 27-30 range, unless some in front of us get beat badly this weekend. AQs still tbd, the at large teams not all that complicated

The BC and Army games were very winnable. Unfortunately we lost both games by 3 points. The losses were mainly due to our own self inflicted mistakes/ turnovers and penalties which swung the games against us in the final analysis. Think how much different our at large chances would be now for the FCS playoffs if we had come away with victories in these two BCS games as we should have. In spite of the losses to Harvard and Lafayette we would be in great shape. Nothing left to do except lay a 50 spot on Georgetown on Saturday and enjoy senior day. I don't see Lafayette losing to Lehigh and don't see us with an at large bid at the end of the day Saturday at 7-4 . .
Whatever happens thanks to the team and coaches for a very nice season. They certainly represent our College extremely well and we are all very proud of them and the efforts this season.

With a win on Saturday, we'll be 7-2 against FBS with our only losses being to i.) our League co-champ and. ii.) the (likely) Ivy League champ. We have two losses to FBS teams - each by three points. One of those schools is a bowl-eligible P5 team against which we very much held our own, and the other, also likely to be bowl-eligible, lost almost every statistical measure against us except for the one that really counts. Should we have scheduled Brown and Dartmouth or Bryant and Central Connecticut instead of Army and BC in order to have us at 9-2 instead of 7-4? I don't think so. While I'd prefer to have Lehigh dig deep and pull the upset on Saturday we're taking care of business against G'town, I agree with others whom have posited that the details of our 7-4 record need to be very closely reviewed against other bubble teams. Assuming that we finish as co-Champs in the PL, I will absolutely be tuned in to the selections show on Sunday at 12:30. PS - Look for our lads to take no prisoners on Saturday. I think we should score, score and score some more. Whether there's another game to be played thereafter, or not, these guys are proud Crusaders, and they'll go out having excelled once again, and with their heads held high. I'm proud of this team, and grateful that they've taken us to a place where we're sitting here in mid-November bemoaning the fact that we've "suffered" through a (potential) 7-4 season, and have to settle for being PL co-Champs.

HC was a play here and a play there from being 9-1 right now (imagine if the punt against Harvard gets blocked or the ball is on the Harvard 45 instead of roughing, a first down, and a five minute longer drive.) Of course, a play here and a play there and the Fordham and Lehigh games are losses for HC. Holy Cross will be better than teams that make it because they are auto qualifiers and arguably better than some team that gets an at large. There are some criteria and there are 10 humans trying to apply them.
The odds that Lehigh will beat Lafayette are better than the odds that HC was going to beat Georgetown the other night. Let's hope that Lehigh has a Joe Octave waiting to step up.

Only two schools not on this list have been in the finals in the last 20 years; one of them, St. Thomas, is now FCS. The reason they have 32 in the first place is that they have 28 conferences that get AQs. There are only four at-large slots in D3.

I agree with this. Two close FCS losses, one against the Ivy champ and the other against the PL co-champ. There's going to be a lot of 7-4 bubble teams and almost all of them have three FCS losses. What makes them so great? For example Sam Herder has Northern Iowa ranked 14. What?? They're 6-4 with three FCS losses, one of them was to a bad Missouri State team and they're going to play ND State on Saturday. Either they end up 6-5 or ND State ends up 7-4 with FOUR FCS losses. They didn't even play any FBS teams. I get that it's a good league, but they don't have anymore scholarships than anyone else. And not all MVFC teams are good. The bottom half of that conference stinks.
