Saw a comment that Chesney hasn't won anything with HC. So I guess their barometers are winning a Natty?
That's a shame then, since it doesn't look like Cuse will ever win anything notable either.

I doubt that Syracuse will be winning a national title in football in our lifetimes. Is there a story from yesteryear about Syracuse students painting Dinand columns orange?

Whether one thinks he's a viable candidate or not, SU is in deep trouble if they give more than a cursory look at the opinions of forum members. Same as anywhere.

Someone--quick-get on that Syracuse board and tell them that Chesney and Foley are a package deal. That will end any discussion of Coach Chesney heading to snowland

I'm reading their AD's presser, and unfortunately, Chesney does fit the description he used nearly to a T. I hope we're able to keep him.
Bob deserves a better program than Syracuse.

It's pretty rare to see an FCS (or lower) coach jump right into Power 5 football.
I have little doubt Chesney could do it, but you'd be hard pressed to name five examples of coaches in the last 20 years to go from FCS to Power 5.

Also, this will be John Wildhack's first really big hire. (I don't really considering Adrian Autry getting promoted from associate head coach to head coach after Boeheim retired as a Wildhack hire).
Bearing that in mind, is Wildhack willing to take a risk/chance on Chesney?
So often, AD's need to win the press conference and be able to defend a coaching hire. It's always easier to hire a retread or existing big time coordinator, rather than someone who's never coached at the FBS level (head coach or assistant).

Only 3 I can think of off the top of my head…Deion obviously (Jackson State to Colorado), Troy Taylor (Sac State to Stanford - played QB at Cal, asst at Cal and Utah) and Chris Kleinman (NDSU to K-State)

One of Wildhack's qualifiers is head coach or coordinator experience at the Power 5 level. You don't say that in a press conference and then go hire a coach who's never stepped foot inside an FBS locker room as a coach.

Even the best coaches in the PL (since Duffner) didn't go straight from the PL to FBS (let alone Power 5). Dave Clawson: Fordham to Richmond to Tennessee (OC) to Bowling Green Pete Lembo: Lehigh to Elon to Ball State Joe Moorhead: Fordham to Penn State (OC) to Mississippi State

Just read that Syracuse message board. Sounds like they were on the defensive about OUR message board and took more shots at Worcester than Holy Cross.
Understandably, they would prefer a successful FBS coach than a very successful FCS coach. If we went there, we’d probably feel the same.
As for Syracuse vs. Worcester, having lived in Syracuse for 9 winters (er, years), it’s not the greatest place to live. I cannot speak to the current Syracuse students and fans but when I lived there in the late 70’s through late 80’s they were insufferable. Nothing like throwing oranges down from the cheap seats at opposing players as they enter the Demi -dome and the language was atrocious in the days before everyone uses “colorful language,”
One of their posters said the only good thing about Worcester was being so close to Boston. Well, Syracuse is not close to anything. That seems to be the big thing: there was no athletic competition there unless you do AAA Syracuse Chiefs or Lemoyne College. No real professional sports so that SU was essentially the only game in town.
Having lived in Columbus and THE Ohio State University, they had the same no alternatives athletics to root for. The difference was the Columbus natives are Midwest-nice. Except when they play Michigan. 😂
And for the poster above, yes, some Syracuse fans came onto the Holy Cross campus in the 60’s and spray painted “SU” in orange on, from memory, 4 Dinand columns. They sand blasted the columns but for years there were cleaner squares on them. Not sure when they eventually got the columns to look right again, but it was years.
Whether they want him or not, I sure hope that Bob Chesney does not ever go to Syracuse. I would rather see him go to BC if he ever leaves. And that’s saying something coming from me.

It was later clarified, head coach experience or P5 coordinator experience. Not specifically P5 Head Coaching experience.

Interestingly, Duffner left after a season with 0 losses. When you're looking to move up you gotta strike when you're hot.

Mike London another, too.
Well, I guess we did it.
Although, London coached at UVA for two different stints prior to going from Richmond to UVA, so he was a known quantity.

Syracuse reporters did a post firing show, and there's this that came up (timestamped already) www.youtube.com/live/ltCxmAo8xdo?si=eYMKU1_Ndj0WjP8I&t=1789"I am going to say this. OK? Little nugget. A little tease for our candidate show, and I texted this to our insiders. Bob Chesney, Holy Cross. Just keep an eye on that name. OK? Just keep an eye on that name. People tell me, he's well liked by people that are making this decision. Just gonna say that."
