If it is any consolation, Chesney is mentioned in an Athletic article on coaching candidates but seems to be more of a footnote and it does not go into great detail on his resume, etc.

Could it be a 3 man package .? Chesney, Sluka, Dobbs ? Yes, and they're also taking to Syracuse two women who work in Kimball, a campus police officer, and three Jesuits. Done deal.

When the time comes, and hopefully not until at least early January 2025, I would put Chris Smith as my top choice.

This might be at long last our opportunity to launch Benny Liew. 🤣😳
Ches, we love you but this is bigger than football. 💥

Chesney on the opposite sideline? Remember seeing the great Bob Cousy on the BC sideline coaching against HC. I was stunned. Took my breath away. Couldn't believe my eyes. Kept looking at him on the BC sideline at the Worcester Auditorium. Heard the story, no opening for a new coach at HC, Coach Oftring was his friend . Yet, BC? Damn! Life can have strange twists & turns. Still continued to admire the great Cousy although I could never bring myself to root for BC, We luv ya' Cooz.

Odds to be the next Syracuse Coach...Mullen is the favorite Dan Mullen 4/1 Bob Chesney 5/1 Sean Lewis 6/1 Curt Cignetti 7/1 Jamey Chadwell 8/1 Liam Coen 9/1 Jason Candle 12/1 Tony White 12/1 Willie Fritz 12/1 Courtesy of BetOnline 4 of those guys are doing well as head coaches a level or two ahead of HC (Sun Belt, CAA, MAC, AAC). Plus there's the big name retread candidate in Mullen. Of course, if one of those 4 gets hired, it will be lather, rinse, repeat as Chesney will then be rumored for one of those jobs.

I was at the game in the auditorium and believe the game was being televised. I and a couple of classmate buddies were up in the balcony. During a timeout and the place was relatively quiet, one of my guys shouted down to Cousy at the top of his lungs, some off color comments about how traitorous he was. Cousy heard him and looked up and just sort of shook his head. The rest of us were mortified and got as much distance as our seats would allow from our buddy. I should tell you that he went on to become a cardiologist and still lives in New England. And, no, I don’t stay in touch with him.😂

Agree about that cart, but It could look like the Cuse said we will take you ONLY IF you bring Sluka along. Nobody thinks you're giving a coach a 5+ year contract because he's bringing along an FCS grad transfer QB who has one year of eligibility. Sorry, that's ridiculous. Not to mention probably close to $5million....for what? 1 year of Sluka to get them to the Spuds Potato Bowl? And I say that not to disparage Sluka, but how much of a turn around could happen in one year. If anything, I'd say the opposite would happen...Chesney goes to Cuse and brings Sluka for the ride

Lasting memory of ashen Syracuse fans exiting the Centrum and selling or giving their game two tickets to eager UVM fans for their friends.

My dislike of their fans is from that game at Vermont, and a regular season tournament game at the Dome back when I visited my nephew at LeMoyne (around 2003 or 2004, Bucknell was also at that tourney).
The Orange Sludge was playing Princeton. Now, some may call me a hypocrite, but for all of my loudness at games I can only recall 1 time when I yelled AT a PLAYER: when the Lafayette kid had John Hurley in a headlock and dragged him across the floor. These Cuse ADULT subhumans were yelling all kinds of nasty stuff at the Princeton kids, with every four letter word you could imagine. Ushers/Security all around, but did nothing - apparently SOP for them. That left a lasting impression with me, and made Vermont's win a year or two later especially sweet. The "fans" were up to their old tricks in that game as well, until reality set in. Then, of course, they turned their nastiness on to their own players.
Geez, I really hope Ches does not go there, or any of the players. I just don't think I could root for them in any way, shape or form.

One thing we can all agree on is that Syracuse fans (mostly basketball) are Hall of Fame level obnoxious.

Syracuse football is 20-45 in ACC play over the last 8 years. Given NIL, recruiting challenges, geography, and a relatively small football fan base they may have difficulties going the traditional route in terms of ACC head coach hiring.
Which is why Chesney’s name is being tossed around.

I kinda hope Chesney is eating up this chatter and just sitting back letting it percolate. Then he can go to Kit Hughes and say, I wanna stay at HC forever....let's make a deal. He's kinda earned it.

Our version of Dick Biddle.
Biddle had a chance to go to Duke, his Alma mater. Decided not to. Grass isn’t always greener. In fact, can be pretty brown in a lot of places.

Once you get there, Hamilton is a great town, IMO. Problem is getting there. Not quite the charm of a Hanover, but pretty damn nice.

Scrolled thru the Syracuse fan forum.
Many very very positive opinions on Coach Chesney (and think AD’s remarks were with BC in mind).
But a few contrarians.
One brings up the point that if Chesney is so good why hasn’t somebody else scooped him up (it’s been 6 years).
Another noted Colgate finished 4-2 (and lost 65-0 to Syracuse) in PL so PL football is kind of a joke.
If Sluka comes he has arm issues and all that running v better competition will mean more injuries.
General consensus is salary would be about 3 million. And BC would be somewhat cheaper than some others.

Any insight as to what Chesney's total comp is at HC? I honestly have no clue. I know many FBS programs are in the $3M range. How far off are we?

From $3M? WAAAAAY off! Remember that our basketball coaches, even Nelson, make a heck of a lot more than our football coaches (a travesty IMHO even when TG was coach). And last time I looked, the basketball coaches made south of $500K.
This ain't the Ivy League with endowed coaches nor a state university whose taxpayers can foot a large part of the bill.
If HC had an extra $3 M, it's going to help cover academic scholarships.

How do you get access to this information? HC's endowment per student is in the top 50 nationally I believe. I think we can figure things out. How much are the Ivies paying their coaches?? I find it hard to believe that HC can't afford to pay up if necessary.

There are more contrarians in the Twitterverse, or whatever it is called these days, lamenting NIL, the transfer portal, and what Cuse fans perceive as BC's inexperience in those realms. A lot of desire for a P4/5 coach. I am not sure how many current P5 coaches would jump at the chance to coach Syracuse. Throwing Dan Mullen and Urban Meyer's name out there for the Cuse job would be akin to me asking Nick Saban to come coach at Holy Cross I think. Whatever we pay BC, it is not enough! I made a comment in another thread, about how it is possible to be both grateful to our departing students and wishing them well as well as the feeling of unfinished business. That is how I feel about Chesney. I would wish him nothing but the best at his next stop, but would feel as though we have unfinished or unfulfilled business.
