Seems like an opportunity to remember the overall W-L record between HC and Georgia — and their apparent reluctance to schedule us since the last contest.

Syracuse has hired Fran Brown as its 31st head coach via a press release sent by the university. Formal intro will be Dec. 4. I truly feel bad for Coach Chesney. He deserved better than to have his name bandied about in the media only to be passed over. He is a wonderful man of high integrity & honor. Welcome to the nasty world of professional college football. There is definitely sadness for Coach Ches with this whole thing. He knows whatever worked out he had the love & support of the entire Holy Cross community. He has done so much to support HC and its student-athletes. He deserves our support, too.

I look at it a little differently. BC can feel good about the respect he was apparently shown as one of the top choices for the Syracuse job. Of course, I have no idea what the process was like for him. Perhaps the whole thing will make him appreciate his job at HC even more (not that he didn't appreciate it already).

Ches absolutely deserves better than the Cuse fandom. Once his name was in the mix, they had about 200 pages of threads just crapping all over him.
I hate saying it, but BC fans would probably be stoked to get him and treat him a thousand times better.
That said, whilst sad for Bob, I am extremely thankful we get to keep him around for at least another year. Hopefully we can get him a Natty before the FBS comes calling.

Coach Brown's alma mater Western Carolina owed us one. The Catamounts had a four week run in the 1983 1-AA playoffs. Close wins over Colgate, HC, Furman and then dumped by So. Illinois 43-7.

Would you want to convert incentives in the current extension to guarantees because of all the Syracuse chatter? I have to assume Holy Cross is doing all it can for coach, appreciates him greatly and he appreciates Holy Cross. Food and nutrition is an interesting item. I'm curious what specifically the deficit is. Holy Cross owns it's own food service as opposed to contracting it out so should be very capable of providing top quality nutrition for student athletes. I would be disappointed in HC if they aren't.

This is going to continue let’s take control
If we set it up the right way we bridge any transition with a positive cash flow and can get the very best FCS or other coach to takeover a great program
We started this with Chesney but it must be sustainable if he leaves, and if we do each part right this cost Holy Cross less than a million dollars to have the best FCS program and Some future version of the PL champion

As someone once said, “everything happens for a reason.” Coach Chesney dodged a bullet and while I agree with the post above that we don’t know how this transpired, it is at least feasible that he turned them down rather than them turning him down.
Let’s count our blessings that however this worked out, he’s probably with us at least another season because we all know that he’s not going to be coaching at Holy Cross forever. BC will come calling soon and I strongly believe that one will have a mutual interest.
Oh, did anyone else notice that while both Syracuse and Holy Cross lost to BC, we lost by fewer points?
Now, let’s beat the Orange in ‘24!!!

EFG, I'm with you in spirit but you don't give any evidence that Nate and Bob didn't do it right last off-season. Keeping it going also means to me extending Coach Riga at some point. It's entirely possible Holy Cross and Coach Chesney have an excellent current contract with the understanding that HC can't compete with the perfect storm of the right offer from the right FBS school at the right time and everybody is realistic about that.

Last year we corrected a mistake when we came in cheap at the beginning , it is now time to get it right and tell the country this PL job is the best in the FCS
at Holy Cross, players, staff, coaches, alums, and the community can have it all but we must be fair and value and reward talent

Maybe it would catch the attention of the someone who can help provide insight into a permanent training table or lack of one.

I am on the board of a company that is involved with medically tailored meals that might do it as a pilot with Holy Cross and LSU

The Athletic department at UMass needs to offer make an offer to Chesney once Coach Brown retires. Glad the Orange did not pick him.
Any chance Sluka could come back if Chesney stays? I am not sure what the portal rules are once a player declares they are entering the transfer portal.

Sluka can come back if he wants to do a 5th year here, but I wouldn't count on it personally.
I would feel pretty bad for Pesansky too, and would expect him to transfer should Matt come back.

I am not sure what the portal rules are once a player declares they are entering the transfer portal. Sluka could come back in theory, but its my understanding that he is looking for an opportunity to become a starting QB at the FBS level. His decision was independent of Chesney. Plenty of players enter the portal and remain at their school in the end. Also, we'll see more head coaching roulette in coming weeks. I imagine Chesney's name will come up again soon.

I know I'm biased, but UMass is no HC.

I spent much of my life in MA and always thought that UMass football should be a stronger program, but they made a mistake going FBS, seem to have limited student support, and look to be stuck in some kind of existential football hell.

Its sad what happened to that program. They do seem to have gotten somewhat stronger the last year or two as far as on field competitiveness. But a shell of the program they had during the I-AA glory days.
