Benzan is now shooting 58.1% 2PT FG. When is the last time an HC guard who attempted more than 100 FG in a season shot such a high percentage?

Against a man to man defense, PB's driving and finishing ability is a major factor in our offense

Army was 19-26 2PT FG. It gets lost in the shuffle because we won, but our defense inside the arc is among the worst in the nation, and it needs to be corrected. Opponents are shooting 57% against us on 2PT FG.

simply put... INCREDIBLE WIN to be down 17 in the second half and win by 9 while on the road is awesome and should inject some juice into this team. "INCREDIBLE WIN" against a team that is now 2-5 in the PL, 7-11 against D1 teams, and with those 7 wins coming against teams with an average rank of 265. Wow, have the expectations for this program fallen through the floor. Sorry that I wasn't able to watch tonight so I couldn't join you in drooling over Benzan, but by the looks of the box score, AT played 36 minutes tonight, which I assume were at Point Guard. Not sure how you could use tonight to show that PB is ready to run the show by himself? And if AT is as bad as you say, and Carmody is as brilliant as you say, why is he still playing 36 mins at PG? Doesn't add up. Side note: Army shot 51.7% tonight, including 73.1% on 2 FG's, and beat us on the offensive glass 10-3, despite being a well below average offensive team. But let's keep our head in the sand and pretend all is well! Go Crusaders!

HC has had only 5 players shoot .581 or better in a season, all big men I think. That's for total FG percentage which includes 3 pointers since that shot has been available. I doubt that we've had a guard shoot that high on twos--I'll have to do some research. have we ever had a guard who plays the way PB does, i.e. almost all his scoring on layups from cuts, drives, breakaways with few jump shots?

Not that I can recall, but Jave may be the closest. He took over 800 shots, 246 of which were threes. actually Bobby and Joe Kelly, 20 years apart, and no relation, were pass first point guards who scored mostly on drives

Getting back to the point where we play basketball at a level where we can consistently beat good teams would make me VERY happy. I would love to hear an explanation for how we can consistently beat good teams with the defense and rebounding that we are trotting out there right now and/or how Carmody will improve both. Do you think I want HC to lose? That I root against HC? That I come to this site, watch games whenever I can, go to games whenever I can, and don't want HC to be good? That makes sense!

A stunning and thrilling victory after a very inauspicious start that made it look for quite a while that this was going to be a loss. We should all be very happy tonight for our gutsy Crusader team. Safe trip home.

When was the last time a team had 76 points with 2 ft(of 5 attempts) ? don't know if this was posted KC--8-10, 2-3 threes, 6-6 ft very impressive 24 points on 10 shots is not common of course, neither is 13 points on 6 shots in 9 minutes then there is PB's line--16 on 10 shots and MA's 18 on 8 shots

Checked archives and went straight to the man anyone would single out as likeliest candidate---sure enough, in his senior season Keith Simmons was 139-236 on twos= .589!

Simmons was more of a small forward, no? He and Benzan are much, much different players.

KC--8-10, 2-3 threes, 6-6 ft very impressive 24 points on 10 shots is not common Charles has always been a pretty efficient player, in my mind. He had 20 points on ten shots against Lafayette. Last year, in the PLT win against Loyola, he had 23 points on ten shots. It's a real luxury how he's also a 80% FT shooter.

If we were looking at "true" guards (as you suggested) I don't think we'd ever find one with the two pt percentage that PB has posted to date.

Army looked very well coached Passed the ball extremely well --27 assists on 31 Fg(to our 17) Shredded our matchup with those passes and terrific early 3 point shooting, forced us to play the 1-3-1 exclusively' the 1-3-1 disrupted their offensive rhythm and contested many passes, resulting in Army turnovers and transition hoops. they will be competitive vs most PL teams playing as they did tonight I thought Army looked to be a very smart team. There were several plays that set up very easy baskets where HC was just flat-footed, as if HC had never seen that play before on tape or otherwise.

OK, as bad as the broadcast was, does anyone have a link to the coverage of the game? I see the Colgate game was already posted on livestream last night.

Bbc,
Thanks for the reality check. AWP really suxx. They are a middle to bottom PL team which feasted on d3 teams. But a road win is a road win. I really enjoyed the basketball we played, sans the p o. Hoping for more of it.

Yes it was Army, yes we were down 17pts to them, but I saw us abandon the PO and go with more uptempo. We scored almost 50 pts in 15 min. That never happens with our going nowhere 30 sec running around the three point line offense. The passing lane and ball defense was excellent in the second half. So for that fact, I can say CBC saw that things were not working and did make an adjustment, heck CLS played and produced. With that said, I think the PO has got to go, it doesn't work any longer because of the shorter shot clock. We need to develop an offense that can score and rebound. Plain and simple. If we don't, then wins against Army and Colgate will be talked about as huge!!

I read here that CBC was rigid and never varied from his p.o. Then I read in several places that he "abandoned the p.o." and had the team go to something else. It really can't be both, can it? I heard him say that CLS would probably be the first frosh to make his mark this season. Now he has. CBC was criticized for this recruit. Does he now get credit for getting him to HC? I guess the bottom line is to never expect consistency from some of our posters. Also, will we now be treated to the obligatory "Yes, HC won, but that opponent really sucked" posts after every HC win? Heck, we have even heard that every team in the PL had blown past HC (even those we seem to have been able to beat?). These posts are not informative to anyone who actually follows the team, but they are predictable and can be as entertaining as they are annoying if they are not taken too seriously.

It seems to me that we get in a hole early in majority of games lately and maybe time to start Benzan both halves and have At off the bench again .

Getting back to serious basketball. cf I agree. Coach blanched when cls took and missed that deep three after his scoring run. Hopefully coach realizes we blanch too at those heaves with 3 or fewer seconds on the shot clock. We must lead the nation with such shots. Anyone have a stat?

How did that work?i I agree that the Princeton offense does not work in every case, especially when the defense packs in the lane forcing outside shots (and those shots do not hit!). However, abandoning it may be like throwing the baby out with the bath water. If the team now can run the p.o., it makes sense to have a "plan B" for those times. HC had some trouble with the late-game press on a few games, but when Army tried it, they made the cadets pay (leading in one case to a beautiful pass down court to KC leading to a basket). I guess experienced coaches can teach some things during the season.
