I think we have a candidate on Staff for DC.

I'd really love to see this get solidified - by next Friday at the latest. Starting on 1/2 this staff will have a lot of work to do to get 12-15 more players in the boat. I'm still working on figuring out the roster number next year which will help determine needs and positions and the money they have to sign those players. It's an important next 7 weeks toward future HC football teams.

I think all the opinions on the topic have merit honestly. As SOV stated HC was good for Bob and Bob was good for HC. I honestly thought after Syracuse he would put his interviews aside and start focusing on HC, but JMU came up.
Regarding poached recruits - this did occur. Tyler Brown verbally committed to HC on the 12/8 weekend. The following weekend he must have visited JMU and quickly flipped to JMU when Barnes went down there. So yes, he did take a recruit.
From a coaching standpoint - if you want to put Chesney in the same class as Duffner feel free - you have every right. From a personal standpoint it's not even close. Mark Duffner is a once on the planet type of person. It's not hyperbole - he's that special of a person, and he still gets choked up to this day when talking about Holy Cross. I'll entertain that debate all day long.
Finally - Bob is gone. I'll watch from afar and wish his family health and happiness. But at some point I'd personally love to put this thread to rest.

Right now Gunnell, Vaganek, Zarkoskie, Cordova, Grautski are still here. I feel great about these guys. Curran was absolutely going to be bringing in 3 or 4 of his own guys which is exactly what it will be.
Safety, CB, DL, QB. Brian Vaganek has been a DC in the past and a good one. He’s a fantastic evaluator of talent too. He’d get my vote.
Scott is a good guy. Wish him nothing but the best whether this was his decision or not.

So far these 10 are very good players. Still a few guys in play for tomorrow.
Losing TJ hurt. Would like to get at least 1 OL tomorrow.

Right now I'd say yes, but that's a part that I have no clue on how Zarkoski views them.

I agree. Just not Stu Smith. Not yet anyway. Not every kid gets NIL money. He’s a PWO.

No disrespect to Smith. Purdue isn’t using NIL money on Stu. At least not yet.

You always need 5. Rauner hurt his leg/knee and will be a 2025 player. Hopefully with HC.

At that time Brown was committed at Liberty and HC already had their 4 DBs. Brown committed after Bostic decommitted.

This is a big period for Coach Curran and we all hope he nails it. There are a lot of bigtime needs in this period. Midwest and I have talked - Field CB (vs. Boundary), 2 DE, QB and OL (again depending) are the most significant needs of all.
WR would be the 4th in this class; LB would be the #2 in this class, TE would be the #2 in this class; you get the picture.
If they get these 2 then OL becomes a low priority.

One of the unidentified signals was Schoonmaker - he signed. A second - after the 12/8 weekend was Tyler Brown. An excellent DB who committed to HC on 12/8 only to sign with JMU today. I have no idea if that had anything to do with Coach Barnes recruiting him and now not on the HC staff. Either way he signed elsewhere. The third unaccounted for signal was an OL who has yet to sign. One can hope he does.

There will be a lot in this so bear with me. It's educated guesses, with some know facts.
The team is losing 37 players from the roster: 1 Long snapper, 1 Punter, 18 on Offense, and 17 on Defense. This includes people in the portal (Shorter, Smith - now at Purdue, et al) . It also includes 33 Super Seniors/Seniors. 4 Seniors are returning from what I know - Daddona, Kelly, MacAuley, Kane.
There were 108 players on the roster last year. Leaves 75. Today HC added 10 players. So now 85 on the roster. My expectation is a 100 player roster. Before COVID the roster was at 90. First year of COVID - 96. Second - unlimited. I'm just going to assume it will roll back to 100 with only 1 year left of COVID classes. Just a round number that I believe is reasonable after discussion with midwest.
Based on what they are losing and what they've gained today I think they will sign another 15 players to get to the 100 - one caveat is if the 2 OL (Miles and the unnamed OL actually sign in the next two days - the signing period remains open til Friday), then I believe they would sign 13.
I believe they will have approximately 9/10 schollies for 15 spots or 7/8 schollies for 13 spots if the 2 OL sign. Again educated guesses, but I think very much in the ballpark.
I believe their needs will be as follows for the second signing period - these could come via portal or High School signings. In other words a LOT of work to do in 7 weeks, which is really 5 weeks because of XMAS and New Years:
1 QB 1 WR 1 TE 1 or 3 OL 1 LB 2 Safeties 2 CB 1 P/K 3 DEs
For those of you who's interest is recruiting please hold me to the above to see how I ended up doing by February 7th - the player part, not the scholly part because ultimately we won't have any idea how the money breaks down, player by player.

Garrett Gillick is the DC at UNH. There is nothing that leads anyone to believe that position is even open. I'm not trying to be naive, but who's to say Scott James leaves. I have no idea, but UNH?
On what basis?
I'm all for information because it's pretty hard to come by, but just wondering how that could be true. I don't see Scott taking a position coach job. But I guess it's possible.

Roster was 108 this past year. I expect it to be around 100 in 2024.

Portal closes on Jan 4. Lots of these kids want to be on campus by Jan 15 to start classes and participate with their team.
These kids are placed in the respective class based on classes that transfer and years of eligibility. They count against the overall 85 players on scholarship amount and 60 in terms on overall dollars.
HC could take a number of them. Question has been - can they get in.
At this point it seems like this class today could now be 12-14 based on a few things that have now happened.
If it’s 14 today - I expect the second signing/portal to be about 14 kids.

That DB I spoke about committed elsewhere. So he's now off the board. Right now it's Miles, another OL and TE is what I expect at this point.

Right now the only guys on my radar are Miles, and then a DB, OL, TE who never posted their commitment, but hoping to see them in the boat today.

Terrence Jones flipped to Fordham. There was a DE who they were trying to flip from Kent State who stayed at Kent State.
So from a recruiting perspective I'm looking for Curran to come up with a couple of his own wins beyond what the former staff got him. Gotta flip a player or two.
