I think there are good players in this group. The issue for them is that they are going to be compared to Newman, McMurtie, Schon, CJ. Which was a top 5 OL in the country in FCS. So it's unfair in that regard. But then again - life is unfair in many respects. They are going to have to work their tails off in the offseason to earn each of those spots, but I've heard nothing but good things about the new OL coach. Christo was clearly the starter last year. Mcnair and Declan have had some reps, but not a ton. Big offseason for this group as it's been the identity - IMO - of the team the past 2 seasons. I get the headliners of Sluka and Coker, but to me this was the best position room on the team.

Another thing to consider is if there are any portal signings the kids would most likely be on campus next week to visit the school and coaches. Friday, January 12th is the first day of "live period" where coaches can make in home visits or visits at school. Coaches will be flying to various states on Friday January 12th - I do know this to be true. Again they have 12-16 slots to fill - still depending on a few things so my guess is they will be on the road for a week or so. If they were to take any portal kids we would most likely know by the end of next week - most likely over the weekend (1/12-1/13). Students go back to school on Jan. 22nd, so any portal kids would have to be enrolled, at school, dorms situated, etc. Therefore IMO decisions would have to be made by the end of next week. Biggest possibility IMO would be OT - but could be another 1 or 2, if any at all. Harry, regarding OL: do you think we're more focused on wrapping up a recruit(s) that are carryover targets like Miles or rather portal xfers? Other than the converted TE to OT from Pa, we seem to have some heavy lifting left. Also, with the core OL guys getting all the minutes last season it's difficult for the average follower to know who will compete from this season's frosh class + Metzger? Any insights would be appreciated. I do not think they are focused on wrapping up a previously committed OL. I think they have changed course from that. I think they could be looking at possibly a portal OT, but not 100% sure. If that doesn't work out I think they have created their own board. Regarding positions left - I personally think they have 2 OL positions to fill. Don't forget they signed Booker on signing day - flipped him from Elon to HC. My guess is an Interior OL and an OT - question is on the Tackle - does it come from the portal or not. It wouldn't shock me to also see a PWO type as a 5th OL in this class. But for sure I think they will be looking to get 2.

Correct on Va Tech transfer as well last year at URI. I’ve heard UNH already brought in a transfer QB - just don’t know his name. URI will score - problem is they can’t stop a nosebleed. We will have to score on them. With Laube and QB gone UNH has big holes to fill.

Well, looking at the staff on the HC website, it still shows FHCBC's staff and no head coach (on January 5, 2024). I wonder when that staff roster will be updated. This does not make HC look good, even though we seem to now have a good staff and head coach. It might be nice if we let anyone know it. If this is not important, take the staff information off of the website. After all some of these poeple are now listed as staff at other colleges. If it is important who they are and that people know it (and I believe it is) then get this UP TO DATE. Don't hold your breath on this. Updating the website is the last thing they do. It's been a point of contention for a while regarding both coaches and players.

Agree...Massachusetts may not be Florida or Texas, but it is certainly top 10........this is a huge get if it enhances our ability to keep these kids close to home It is also not Georgia, California, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, Michigan, Virginia, New Jersey or North Carolina, so certainly not top 10. We won't get kids from CA and haven't really from GA and NC so moot point in my opinion. Have to get good players from your own back yard. With the ISL, and a strong Catholic conference HC should be doing better there.

With Robbat, Vaganek, Cordova I think that rounds out the staff. I think you might see an additional asst secondary coach eventually too. Monteiro was who I was referring to here, just couldn't say it.

I’m an alum and a tuition-paying parent of a current HC student who does not have an athletic scholarship (or any, for that matter). While the collective/LLC is certainly free to do whatever it wants within legal boundaries, I believe such payments will exacerbate the athlete/non-athlete divide on the Hill, which seems to be much greater than when I attended in the 80s. As Phreek notes, athletes’ tuitions are already subsidized by tuition payments from non-athletes (i.e., their parents). They are also provided career counseling and networking opportunities non-athletes are not, and have dedicated training facilities that are not accessible to all students, among other school-funded perquisites. Now they will receive direct cash payments from a group of alumni? At the risk of sounding like Fr. Brooks, whose name is verboten on this board, all of this moves Holy Cross away from its core educational mission. Is there an athlete/non-athlete divide on The Hill ?? Really ?? Any more so than Alabama, USC or Notre Dame ??......its not clear that athletes have enhanced access to career counseling/network opportunities, and even if they do, there is no financial aspect to it.......the so-called "access " is pro bono from the standpoint of alumni athletes wanting to give back.....How is this moving away from the " core educational mission " I have a hard time getting my hands around the concept that Gonzaga, Marquette, St. Mary's ( CA ), Dayton, Duke, Virginia, Villanova, or Notre Dame ( among others ) having their " educational mission " irrevocably damaged by supporting varsity basketball/football programs....If anything, ethical support of those programs enhances the mission....it does not detract from it Correct. It doesn't detract from it. Either way the 1843 is moving forward. Football alum can either donate to it or not.

I think Coach Curran will be involved. Coach Schell from Merrimack staff has changed his Twitter picture to HC. Was WR coach at Merr. Expect him to coach TEs at HC.

Recruiting calendar is: Dead period until Jan 11th. Coaches can call and text kids - hence the offer to Bullard.
My guess is coaches on the road starting Jan 11/12 to make in home visits. Prob on the road all week the week of Jan 15-19 and 22-26
Two recruiting weekends 1/27 and 2/3. Signing day 2/7
I think they could now be looking for a total of about 15-17 kids which will make this a fun 5 and 1/2 weeks.

To be fair gks - Stu Smith is a PWO who in my opinion doesn't warrant NIL money at Purdue which doesn't have the same NIL dollars as other P4's. There are 85 kids ahead of Stu Smith looking for NIL dollars. IMO Stu Smith isn't getting money to cover the cost of his tuition because his talent level doesn't warrant it. He's a good player, but I just don't see it. At larger schools with huge NIL collectives - yes that could occur.

7 to 8 to me is most likely in fact. The PL is getting better and their 6 OOC games are TOUGH.

We also have no idea if he’s a PWO. He has zero offers. PWOs don’t have to sign an NLI.

There will be a lot in this so bear with me. It's educated guesses, with some know facts. The team is losing 37 players from the roster: 1 Long snapper, 1 Punter, 18 on Offense, and 17 on Defense. This includes people in the portal (Shorter, Smith - now at Purdue, et al) . It also includes 33 Super Seniors/Seniors. 4 Seniors are returning from what I know - Daddona, Kelly, MacAuley, Kane. There were 108 players on the roster last year. Leaves 75. Today HC added 10 players. So now 85 on the roster. My expectation is a 100 player roster. Before COVID the roster was at 90. First year of COVID - 96. Second - unlimited. I'm just going to assume it will roll back to 100 with only 1 year left of COVID classes. Just a round number that I believe is reasonable after discussion with midwest. Based on what they are losing and what they've gained today I think they will sign another 15 players to get to the 100 - one caveat is if the 2 OL (Miles and the unnamed OL actually sign in the next two days - the signing period remains open til Friday), then I believe they would sign 13. I believe they will have approximately 9/10 schollies for 15 spots or 7/8 schollies for 13 spots if the 2 OL sign. Again educated guesses, but I think very much in the ballpark. I believe their needs will be as follows for the second signing period - these could come via portal or High School signings. In other words a LOT of work to do in 7 weeks, which is really 5 weeks because of XMAS and New Years: 1 QB 1 WR 1 TE 1 or 3 OL 1 LB 2 Safeties 2 CB 1 P/K 3 DEs For those of you who's interest is recruiting please hold me to the above to see how I ended up doing by February 7th - the player part, not the scholly part because ultimately we won't have any idea how the money breaks down, player by player. So I'm going to update this now that the signing window is done. The signee roster does indicate Ashton Booker, which leads me to believe he actually signed his NLI. So I expect 2 OL instead of 1 or 3. Overall I expect 14 spots to be filled to make a roster of 100 total (that could be off a few players, but this is the baseline I'll use). My guess is about 8-9 schollies for 14 spots. QB, DE, CB, OL, the greatest needs.

I'd really love to see this get solidified - by next Friday at the latest. Starting on 1/2 this staff will have a lot of work to do to get 12-15 more players in the boat. I'm still working on figuring out the roster number next year which will help determine needs and positions and the money they have to sign those players. It's an important next 7 weeks toward future HC football teams.
