Is it just me, or is it a bad sign that the program has to go on twitter to find student managers? Did the students slotted to be managers this year quit or were fired?

The College of the Holy Cross has the largest and oldest community-based learning program. Last year, 742 students participated, and Holy Cross reached out to 52 community partners, the WPS Adult Learning Center, Ascentria Care Alliance and Abby’s House among them.
“It’s very transformative and powerful for many of the students who are involved in a way that it touches their hearts and their heads simultaneously,” said Michelle Sterk Barrett, director of the school’s Donelan Office of Community-Based Learning, which was founded in 2001 and makes the connections between class and community.
Sterk Barrett added that beyond studying course materials, students learn about commitment to the community and what their duty is to the common good. Their involvement also helps short-staffed organizations deliver more services.

When we graduated in 1981 we found out that our commencement speaker was Helen Hayes, causing some to quip, "we asked for a speaker for the 80's not in her 80's." Her speech was almost instantly forgettable. Although I wasn't present so can not speak to its delivery, Mark Shriver's commencement address in 2010 is still the best HC address I have read. www.holycross.edu/commencement/commencement-archives/2010-principal-address

I, for one, would not be surprised if the next AD is a woman. We've never had a woman AD and the issue of women in leadership positions in sports is being pushed right now nationally (see viral press conference by ND women's basketball coach). Something like 12% of D-1 ADs and 30% of D-3 ADs are women. 2 of the top 25 D-1 football programs this year (Washington and Penn State) have women ADs. Closer to home, Colgate and Loyola in PL, as well as Princeton, Yale, Monmouth and Hartford all have women ADs. I have no idea whether it will happen but would be shocked if no women were interviewed for the job.

I'm sure someone will correct me, but it seems to me that this tournament has had the worst performances by northeastern basketball programs in memory. I think there were 12 teams from the northeast (defined as NJ,NY, PA, and New England) in the tourney and 11 got knocked out in either the first four or first round. The only two to advance, Buffalo and Villanova, were handily dispatched in the second round by a combined 46 points. Yale and colgate lost by less than 10 in the first round, but the whole area seems to have been left behind.

Interesting quote from Dwayne Wade this morning: ""That is as good as it gets in our game with any team ever to play this game," Wade told reporters. "That is as good as it gets with a starting five. That is why they are who they are, that is why they are champions."
With all 5 starters being current or former all-stars, Durant, Curry, Thompson, Green and Cousins, it is difficult to think of a better starting 5 in NBA history. What do you think? I know it is silly to compare teams from different generations; but, it would be interesting to see what others think.

While rebounding obviously a problem, we also just shot terribly today. Missed a lot of outside open looks and it seemed like a ton of layups went up too strong or came off the rim. 36.7% from field and 25% from 3pt isn't going to win many games. One of reasons Navy had so many rebounds is we missed so many shots. We only had 11 assists because the shots were not going in at all today. Also, having JF play only 4 minutes in the first half contributed to him taking so few shots. Surprisingly, even on a bad afternoon, we were a hair away from winning. It will be good to be home on Wednesday but Lehigh won't be easy.

HC stands #324 in "Bench Minutes" with 21.5% of our minutes coming from non-starters. The D-1 average is 30.6% I guess I do not understand how this is calculated, but With non-starters Benzan averaging 25.4 mpg and Niego averaging 11.8, how can our bench be averaging only 21% of minutes ? If there are 200 minutes per game (40 minutes x 5 players) then the non-starters would average a collective 43 minutes per game to reach 21.5% of total minutes.

With two solid basketball wins and an incredible comeback by the football team against GTown, this was the best HC major sports weekend in a long time. To those with better memories, when was the last HC sports weekend that was as successful?

A win is a win but... I am going to vent. During my time at HC we did not have an on-camps arena for our home games. We played at the Worcester Memorial Auditorium and we regularly packed the place. I remember freezing my tail walking down Southbridge Street into Worcester and back to HC. The team played and we went whether the team was good/bad no matter the opponent. This was our team and we loved them and enjoyed watching them, even including the agony of defeat. Last night the Hart had very few students for the SH game. For crying out loud the facility is on campus, a five minute walk from the dorms or library and few students were in attendance. Were classes in session? I don't know. I have read from the more informed members on this board that everything is different and students prefer watching a bunch of paid strangers play ball on tv, rather than their own team. If classes were in sessions, then last night's attendance was a disgrace, shameful. Were classes in session? LoveHC We are of the same vintage, and I share your chagrin, but there are some things to remember. The Worcester Aud only held slightly over 2000 fannies, so it was easy to pack. Also, Holy Cross was all male, and we had little else to do but study. Todays college actually has more women than men, and the activities and social life available far outstrip what we experienced. I do not think that the attendance was "a disgrace", nor was it "shameful". Rather, it is to be expected given how things have changed, and mirrors trends at other institutions. Keep winning, and things will improve! It was a solid win. Go Cross! Also to be remembered was that there was no cable TV even into the late 70's and beginning of the 80's. today's student basketball fans can watch a host of top basketball games from the comfort of their rooms and can even check in to the HC game from their phone while studying or doing something else. If we bring back the live excitement of winning consistently at home, they will start to show.

What a nice comfortable win. I can't remember the last time (although I'm sure someone will remind me) where HC went up by more than 10 in the first 8:00 of the game and kept a double digit lead for 32+ minutes. There was no real second half run by SHU. With a 21 point half time lead we just kept going. SHU would cut it to as low as 15 before we would bring the lead back up to 15 to 20. Although we only won by 12 the game was not that close, with HC up by 20 with less than 2 minutes to play, and SHU scoring 2 buckets in the last 30 seconds of garbage time. Still a lot of work to do but this team seemed confident and executing better than any HC team in an opening game in many years. Yes they were supposed to win. But they did win comfortably. Great job CBC and team being ready to play from the first minute of the season.
