Meh....pretty routine, bland and very brief thing. It's not as if he's gonna say anything negative on the subject, right ?

BTW, check-out the coach info data on the head coach bio page....*^#%*, eh ? Well, if our third year varsity coach is really a "freshman" that may explain a lot about the team's performance. Same info stuff for women's head coach

does that mean you think we'll do well vs. them ? so what if they're losing to nationally ranked teams, does that mean they aren't head and shoulders better than us. I'll put an over/under number on how many total games we win today at 10. Don't get me wrong, I am not blaming our players, but just look closely at our results, we should not field a team this inept. Don't follow tennis at HC or BC haze so can't tell ya. Per SoV, we're obviously pretty bad.

I hope the Railers don't have a problem with this Excellent Tom....LOL !
Interesting development as regards HC and BE talk although it appears HC/DCU is on an every 2-year cycle.

pp -
AIR, prior to the building of elevated I-290, a long enclosed concrete culvert was constructed from just south/west of College Square past Fitton Field to the McKeon Rd. bridge for the Middle River ( this buried culvert accounts for the odd, indented/smaller seating in the stadium's northeast corner ) . Thus the river - or any storm of the century flooding - would come from the far south/west side of CS and/or via the open end of the McKeon Rd. bridge.
Question - in which direction does Middle River flow ? If it's southwest to northeast, would guess the major flood risk would be from the southwest.
Question 2 - What's the insurance status of Hanover Park baseball stadium vis a vis the flood zone ?
Question 3 - Same question for the softball field on Freshmen Field and why did HC build/locate it there as opposed to up top of campus ?

Had not noticed until today that BC was on our schedule for today at home. another absolutely crazy decision, they are an 'acc' team and we have not even scored a point yet in 7 spring matches, the most recent 7-zip losses being to colgate and bentley. the new resurfaced courts (thanks to some benefactors who read this board) are about 5 years old and this program has only deteriorated during this period. I don't get it. FYI, BC is 4-15 and 0-10 in the ACC.

I have to think that just having the facility under construction will be 90% as effective/persuasive with recruits as if it were already functioning This weekend at the Holy Cross Volunteer Summit, Hard Hat tours are planned for Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. I'll be there bright and early to see the construction first hand. If you can take and post some interior photos please do....thanks.

Why do people forget that HC was all-in on HE under the inept DR regime (runner up to UConnvict), and would have accepted it if offered? No different this time other than being boxed out by (for the moment) by the owner of the ferkakta Railers. HC was prepared to accept a bid then, and would accept it now. Wait....wasn't that the ECAC when we lost out to Q-pac ? AIR, McFarland was AWOL when HC was visited for dog and pony show, yes ? I think we all couldn't believe he was absent.
Or am I misremembering ?

In other words, ain't happening. What the college does is what it perceives to be for the good of the college, not the fans. See Big East, new Big East here. Well, it would certainly appear that travel costs per season in HE would be significantly less than what exists now. Just one angle but that would be for the good of the college, right ?

I don't follow hockey, but was flipping channels and caught the Harvard-Duluth game in progress. Was 1-1 for a long time and appeared to me to be a pretty boring game, mostly defensive struggle. Duluth scores with half a minute left, game over right? Harvard calls timeout, pulls the goalie and goes crazy for 30 seconds, with two shots off the cross bars and probably a total of at least three shots in the 30 seconds. I thought maybe they should have tried that strategy sooner. Not sure what you mean lou.

I think Deep Purple makes a good point. If he signed his LOI it's binding unless Richmond let's him out, and I'm not sure about having to sit. I checked out a Richmond Football blog and it had him as the first signing of the day on Signing Day. He then followed the new O line Coach, Coach Smith sometime about 2 weeks later. Apparently there is a story to go along with all of this. Sans more info, sounds like after the coaching change, he asked to be released from his LOI and it was granted by Richmond. This is fairly common and I doubt this has any effect on his immediate eligibility at HC. Also doubt he could have followed the head coach to Delaware as such may be an in-conference rule. Apparently we had a schollie available to give him.

Why would Martin want to go to Georgetown? At this point, South Carolina might be a more attractive job than Georgetown. I suspect he would aim higher if he's going to move on. SC is on the upswing while Gtown is on the decline. I agree that it's unlikely that a typical coach would prefer GT to SC. Martin will reach mythic status at SC and will have great leverage over the school when it comes to contract extension or renewal time USC definitely the more attractive job.... www.gamecocksonline.com/facilities/colonial-life-arena-new.html

Here's a suggestion. Downgrade the significance of the interview. HC categorizes these four aspects of an application to be Very Important. Rigor of the coursework; GPA, recommendations, and an interview. I looked at other Northeast smaller-sized colleges to see how they characterized the importance of having an interview. Little point in looking at larger schools as they aren't going to interview 10,000 - 15,000 applicants. Bowdoin, Interview considered Amherst, Not considered Williams, Not considered Wesleyan, Considered Colgate, Not considered Bucknell, Not considered Middlebury, Considered Lafayette, Recommendations categorized as important, interview is important Dickinson, Interview important Davidson, Important (interesting that test scores are more important than class rank / GPA) Colby, Interview considered Bates, Considered I stopped there, fairly confidant that very few schools would categorize the interview as Very Important as Holy Cross does. If I'm an applicant, and I don't live in Worcester, how easy would it be to get an interview? According to HC, an interview is very important. so if I don't have one, that would seem to be a strike against me. So I won't apply. As HC is the only school that I found that categorizes both recommendations and an interview as Very Important, that would strike me as this is a school where admittance may turn on 'who you know'. HC site says there's a form to set-up an off-campus interview with an alum.

How Basketball Helped Gonzaga University Flourish es.pn/2nADS2k"The small, Catholic, private and enrollment-reliant school welcomed a bottoming-out freshman class of 550 students, continuing a dismal trend of shrinking enrollment that saw the school’s undergraduate population dip from 4,176 in 1990 to 2,791 just eight years later." That is quite an interesting article to say the least !
Using me as 1 small example, prior to a couple years ago I had heard of Gonzaga but was unsure of where it was located....guessing it was somewhere around San Francisco. Now I know where it is and via this article, now aware of it's history.

Agreed when it comes to basketball. Academics are another story entirely. Interestingly, I once heard from someone who claimed to be knowledgeable that Fr. McFarland (who had spent several years in a senior academic position at Gonzaga before becoming HC's president) had once said that Gonzaga had sold out to the athletic department and that he would not let that happen at HC. For what it's worth. What position(s) did McFarland hold at Gonzaga ? Were they sorry to see him leave ? From afar, his tenure at HC seemed rather bland. Mostly thought he was over his head a bit. The school just appeared to drift along. Just my opinion.

This assumes that HC would have backed off its admission standards for athletes. Otherwise, HC record might have more closely resembled Northwestern 'zactly. HC would have ended up with better players (than they got since the late 70s), but would they have been good enough players? Here we go again
So the likes of 1970's stars Perry, Vicens, Potter, O'Connor, Brown, Kissane, Suidit, Stacom, Doran, Gooch...even Beckenbach ....etcetera....would not have been good enough to compete in a then new BE conference. And were they and others sub-standard students ? In fact AIR, Perry and Vicens - two of our all-time greats - were EXCELLENT students !
Hogwash on guys like Blaney and AD Perry promoting lesser admissions standards.
