Our inability to grow and geographically diversify our application base is primarily the result of decisions HC has made, not because of outside factors we can't control -- same for our athletic program. There are quite a few "jock" schools with strong academic reps. HC's rather large percentage of varsity athletes (32% if Forbes is to be believed) might contribute ( along with other important factors including admission statistics) to the view of it as a jock school rather than a school strong in athletic participation and academics. ND, BC, GT, VU stand at about 10 - 12%. (Of course HC's student body size is a factor in this percentage and there are many factors involved in 'reputation'. I have no idea if HC's current reputation impacts our application totals one way or another.) I have to giggle a bit at HC being viewed by anyone as a 'jock' school these days.

140 characters is the new standard. The acceptance letter reads as if it is a compilation of boilerplate sentences, individually chosen and included to match the accepted students profile. _______________________________ As has been noted, we discussed the perceived failings of HC admissions on the old board, and at length. One of my main, current complaints is that I understood that Ann had been given specific direction to increase the geographic diversity of the enrolling classes, and that a specific numerical goal, expressed as a percentage, had been set for international students.Based on the limited statistics for the class of 2020, Ann failed to achieve either objective, and, in fact, the class of 2020 was less geographically diverse than the class of 2019. Regression to the old days and the old ways. I am convinced that if it wasn't for athletics, geographic diversity would indeed be a hollow effort on the part of admissions. If Ann can't carry out the policies of the college, then she should retire. Was the diversity of the qualified application pool sufficient to carry out a realistic increase in geographic diversity ?

Kind of weird when Michigan is the Cinderella story but I do like John Beilein. I'll go with Xavier as Cinderella so far. Lost their best player to injury mid-season, struggled and then late push. Mack is a very good coach. Michigan is the sentimental story but not Cindy story based on their talent and coaching.

I know of at least 5 HS stadiums within about 35 minutes of Gtown that seat between 2 and 4,000 with plenty of parking.
Hoya hoops rents/plays off campus, would be better to do the same for football.

Notjuan--I think you are being unreasonable here. No one is saying AU was no good. Many posters just think those fine AU teams were not as good as the best HC or Bucknell teams. Aren't your polemics a bit silly? "They thus weren't very good" . Come on What's a polemics ? Sounds like something found in Home Depot.

I think perhaps '87 is bugging many posters not so much because he is repetitive, but that down deep you know that his basic points are right. We are invisible. I think perhaps you're spot-on nht....

If we're not careful, HC is going to have excellent athletic facilities hosting abysmal athletic teams.
So last night I clicked onto the athletic website and saw/read an uplifting story on one of the softball players. Since I don't follow the sport I scrolled down to see a lead story that said HC is picked to finish 6th of 7 in the league. I then looked at the team photo to find some of the most attractive young ladies I've seen of late decked out in VERY sharp unis. They looked better than several big-time programs ! So I asked myself, picked for next to last ?? And then another click to last season's results....a big mistake....AIR, it said something like 6-26. Shocked and saddened, I then looked at the stats....yet another big mistake. The collective dearth of any reasonable hitting and defence - particularly as compared to the collective stats of the opponents was horrid.
So someone please explain....how in the heck can a softball team be this inept ? And I don't recall who was picked 7th but whoever that is must be really, really awful to be perceived worse than HC this coming season.
But hey, baseball is picked 1st in the divine, mighty Patriot League. AIR, the coach likes to bunt a lot.

We should play BC every year in basketball.....there is no justifiable reason we do not imo...we are/were rivals going back ovah 100 years....ummm, isn't this basically why we have intercollegiate sports? Might not be true now, but from an HC standpoint there was the whole BC refusing to play HC when HC was consistently giving them a competitive game and then again when a Coach Brown team beat them badly in the Centrum. Because I don't buy into the whole theory that the major conferences are so good top to bottom that those teams should only play cream puff games at home for OOC (unless ESPN comes knocking to set up an attractive TV game), I would agree there is no justifiable reason why BC should refuse to play a traditional intrastate rival How often has BC played Umass, BU or Northeastern over say the last 10 years ?

That's a good observation/question.
Also, seems to me that you can count on one hand the number of current students - male or female - that have EVER posted here or the old board.
No interest ? Culture ? Another board ?

HC's QB Connor Degenhardt is the highest rated PL recruit -- 3* (82). Lafayette may edge out HC once Moses is removed from the equation. Second highest PL recruit is a Lehigh CB -- 3* (81.15). Third hightest PL recruit is HC's DL Jordan Jackson -- 3* (80.65). Thanks breezy....
Is Connor related to Chris D ? Do we know who else offered Connor and Jordan ?

As of yesterday, 247 Sports rated HC as having the #1 recruiting class in the PL and Lafayette the #2 class. HC's standing was helped by the 2* rating for Kyle Moses -- now that he has de-committed (and by the way he got an offer from Army today) that may change the rankings. So without Moses it's basically a toss-up with Lafayette ?
Any idea who landed the highest rated recruit in the PL per 247 ?

How's all that working out for Addazio? BC is recruiting kids closer to HC's level of football than some schools in their own conference. Do we use Gordie....or lately, Raymond ? If so, how....and howz that been working out for Gilmore ?

I see that this kid got subsequent offers from URI and 4 or 5 others but NO MENTION of Holy Cross. He chose Lafayette.
Maybe we didn't have have any available schollies, or maybe we weren't impressed, or maybe he didn't have the grades/test scores....or maybe we blew a chance to make him an offer and at least get some positive press in talent rich New Jersey.

New offer reported today: WR HUNTER HAYEK, 5-11, 175, of Wayne Hills HS, Wayne, NJ Twitter: @hunterhayek Hudl highlights: www.hudl.com/profile/4244154/hunter-hayekAlso has offers from Army, Stony Brook, and URI. He claims to have the following times: 4.4 in the 40-yard dash; 10.78 in the 100-meter dash, and 21.3 in the 200-meter dash. His (twin?) brother has committed to Rutgers. Yes, his brother is a twin. Those times are legit he would be a very good "get." He is amazing to watch on the field. He was 3rd Team All-State ( all groups ) this past season in NJ.

Per ESPN last night, Diacco's recruiting had apparently dropped down a lot. They said this youngster wasn't even in their database of over 2,000 prospects. Kid & family should have been wary after the coaching change although either Edsall or another new coach supposedly called the kid earlier and said he was still in their plans.
Wake picked-up a good kid 2 years ago after the scum Petrino of Louisville pulled their offer FOUR DAYS before national signing day....true gutterball stuff by the lead gutterball nationally.

7 and a half pages in before this reminder. Hard to fathom how we went down 17 points to this team. Oh and given last nights results, only Buck looks any good right now with Lehigh being super inconsistent. Need more info on how Champion is going to get healthy while playing with an injury....howz that accomplished ?
