What impressed me the most last night? After the game, walking towards the exit, we saw Coach Chesney assisting a couple of his players with folding up the courtside chairs - he does everything! It is the little things that matter. My father always made us fold up chairs at church/school events. They went on these things which then slid under the stage. Lessons learned, I made my kids do the same.

Men's hoops finished in 42nd place, the only entity to receive $0 dollars 4,608 donors from all 50 states, $1,676,660 raised. Men’s rowing = 12k, hahahahahaha. You don't believe it? Likely one large gift and a bunch of normal sized ones. We should also remember that many people don't only direct their money to particular issues. I made a small gift allowing the College to use it as it wishes.

TANGENT ALERT—-When/how did the term Easy Street come into usage for the pathway behind the hill dorms? I have wondered since I saw an impromptu party develop there in my first days as a student all those years ago.
Was it in use going back to the 60s?

Terrifyingly overmatched. As SOV notes, plenty of unforced errors.

The modern NBA is an interesting place. He’s 6-10 and took 8 shots—all from 3.

I don't think that the issue regarding non medical redshirts is about reputation. I think that the issue is about a common undergraduate experience with classes which enter and leave together. I personally think that high retention and four year graduation rates at HC and other small LACs are a big positive.
That said, I don't think that 6 or 8 football players per class who take an extra semester would be detrimental to the experience of the student body as a whole.
For me, I just really don't get the 60 scholarship limitation.

The CAA signed an eight figure media rights agreement today Flo Sports? The "K-Mart Kennedy" of Sports Streamers. Who pays for the announcers, the cameras, the camera operators, etc in these streaming deals? If the schools pay, how much profit can there be?

OKC beat the Lakers last night. For some reason, this game seems to have received a lot of attention. 🤔

If the Navy assistant didn’t know Caleb is a lefty, he wouldn’t be qualified to coach JV high school basketball. Caleb gave up an easy righty layup to go to his left hand and miss during the second half. That’s a pretty big problem too.

Some are saying the new New Balance facility may be faster. It is fair to say that different tracks may be preferable for different events. Elite athletes also choose meets where they get to compete against 5he best.

UConn, BC, and PC did not participate in the meet. Harvard was hosting a big meet this weekend. I posted the results links. Anyone interested would have seen that when they clicked. It is an unfortunate fact of life that there is little emphasis on team scoring events in college track. But, thanks for getting online and posting in the middle of the night and kicking sand on HC and the kitty cats from UNH. Oh, and the BU meet has a better field than the Harvard meet.

Well done. I don't understand why some people think being pedantic is a bad thing. But, I think that KPI is not an abbreviation, but rather, an initialism. This would not happen on any other board! I have looked at this issue further, and have now concluded that KY gets credit for his answer. I think that it is fair to say that initialisms and acronyms are varieties of abbreviations. There are also abbreviations which are not either initialisms or acronyms. E.g. "Ave." or "Rd." or "St."

There is actually a Society for College and University Planning, with headquarters in Ann Arbor. Who knew? From the Society's webpage. Had to look up the acronym KPI, which means Key Performance Indicator. Here's a nitpick, in keeping with Crossports customs: I believe that is an abbreviation, not an acronym. To be an acronym it must be pronounced as a word. To illustrate: "NATO" is an acronym because people say "Nay-toe" while the "NFL" is not an acronym because people do not say "Niffle". If people call a Key Performance Indicator a "Kippy" I'll stand corrected and slink away in shame. Well done. I don't understand why some people think being pedantic is a bad thing. But, I think that KPI is not an abbreviation, but rather, an initialism.

Not as cheap as BC, Furman and UNH that eliminated their Men’s programs for examples. Or UConn which has never had one despite being in a state with a strong and constantly growing lacrosse tradition

Game tentatively rescheduled to Thursday at 6:00. Game should be a good indication of what we have this year. NCAA season is NOT allowed to start before Saturday so unless they got a waiver, this game will be a scrimmage. Sunday at 5 pm per lax team twitter.

Pedro? I’m not shocked to hear that any player of that era used steroids but I don’t recall any substantive allegation that Pedro did. Pedro tested positive for PEDs in 2003, when trial testing was supposed to be anonymous, but the list was leaked in 2009. Official MLB drug policy began in 2004 with positive tests resulting in suspension. I am going to push back, ever so gently, on Pedro as steroid user. I know he is on "the list" but if you poke around the internet (as I did over the weekend) there are not a lot of people willing to consider him a steroid user. All of the articles about Ortiz discuss his presence on the list, but Pedro isn't treated the same way. I have always assumed that the list was mostly correct, but have wondered if a few people were wrongfully named.

Is it possible that the EBW connection (and his to Lucchino) drives this?

To address the two players this thread primarily focused on: 1. Beltran-there is a large segment of voters that believe in it being a special honor to be voted in your first year of eligibility and accordingly withold votes based on not being "first ballot worthy" but being "hall worthy"...I think even without the cheating scandal, Beltran would have fallen victim to this. Other writers have publicly said that they would withhold a vote on him a year or two as "punishment" for the scandal, but would ultimately vote for him. I think getting 44% in his first year on the ballot, when he is not "first ballot worthy" and the cheating scandal is fresher in writer's heads is a strong indication that he will ultimately get in before his 10 years are up;2. Rolen-I don't think he is a hall of famer, and I would not have voted for him...but at the same rate I do not think his election is that egregious that it upsets me. This makes sense -- but why "only a year or two of punishment" for the blatant cheating scandal versus "not voting for steroid users (unless their name is David Ortiz or Pedro Martinez) ever"? No logic. And the whole "not first ballot" thing has been going on for decades. I would be willing to bet Jeff Kent jumps next year. Can't remember if he was on the 'roids list or not, though. Pedro? I’m not shocked to hear that any player of that era used steroids but I don’t recall any substantive allegation that Pedro did.
