Amy appears to have filled a similar role as FADMB at BC and also leaves BC for HC. The difference is she's not arriving in Worcester as a first time AD. I hope that's a maturation by the HC PTB in how they value Athletic Director and Head Coach openings at Holy Cross. Those positions are too important for people to learn how to do the job on the job.Welcome Aboard Amy! Not having been the AD elsewhere, isn't Kit by this definition "learning on the job?'

Given our relatively soft FCS schedule next year (to be honest), we’re going to need to beat Army to grab a seed. (Assuming heavily favored BC beats us.) I think that we could get a seed even losing close games to Army and BC if we absolutely thrash all of our FCS opponents. While I agree that BC will be better than this year and favored, I don't think that it will be "heavily favored." I think that there has not been a sufficient body of work to be confident that Morehead will succeed.

Kevin Gale has gotten annoying with his repetitiveness. He constantly uses terms like HC playing “small ball” now. We have played small ball since game 1. Louth’s two game season and Rabs’ cameos were our only lineups with players taller than the 8 who currently play.( a bit of Wilbar excepted) He also makes more than a few errors. Sometimes I wonder what game he is watching. I would be happy if he retired, "hoop and harm" as well.

What an extraordinary man. I am so proud that HC awarded him an honorary degree.
Tracy Kidder, the author of the Times piece, is one of my favorites. I read his book "Soul of a New Machine" in the intro computer science class I took at HC. Later I read "Hometown" about a year in the life of the people (including the homeless) in Northampton and then, a few years ago, "Mountains beyond Mountains" about Paul Farmer, another HC honorary degree recipient.

The young man seems to be recovering. Per a statement from the team: "While still critically ill, he has demonstrated that he appears to be neurologically intact. His lungs continue to heal and he is making steady progress. We are grateful for the love and support we have received.” A teammate tweeted that Hamlin was awake. www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2023/01/05/damar-hamlin-improvement-bills/

Was at HC on a Sunday afternoon when this was reported during what passed for a scoreboard show after some random NFL game. "On October 24, 1971, the Lions hosted the Chicago Bears at Tiger Stadium. Late in the 4th quarter, with Detroit trailing 28–23, the Lions were driving into Chicago territory and Hughes, who entered the game as an injury replacement, caught a pass from quarterback Greg Landry for 32 yards and a first down at the Bears' 37-yard line. Three plays later, Landry threw a pass that tight end Charlie Sanders dropped near the end zone. Hughes, a decoy on the play, began running back to the huddle with 1:02 showing on the clock. Suddenly, he dropped to the turf clutching his chest around the 20-yard line.[3] Hughes collapsed near Bears linebacker Dick Butkus, who saw him begin to convulse violently on the field. Butkus motioned to the sideline frantically to get Hughes assistance.[6] Both teams' doctors and trainers, along with a physician who happened to be attending the game, ran to Hughes to try to save him. An ambulance was called for and arrived to take Hughes to Henry Ford Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:34 pm that afternoon. He was 28 years old. The game was played to its conclusion in front of a now-stunned silent crowd in Tiger Stadium, with the Bears' lead holding. The Lions awaited word of Hughes' condition after the game and the players were informed once word had broken that he was dead." Unlike yesterday, you'll notice somehow they finished the game, crass as that was (remember thinking that at the time). Happy that the general consensus last night was "fkk it, we're ending this". Wishing the man has a full recovery. Hopefully, we can refrain from the type of comments that will definitely get Dean Wormer involved.
Nope, didn't happen.

The AGS thread has wandered off to a discussion about what constitutes " midwest." We had a similar conversation when all five kids were home for Christmas (first time since the before times) and they assured me that I was not " middle aged."

There is an article in the T&G about the class today. In a nutshell. Ches says they expect 13 kids back as 5th years. And they expect to sign 6-8 in this second signing period. If the roster cap is 96 then I would expect 5-7 players to be leaving from the current roster. 99 players now (includes guys who were done - Kiessling, Leo, Doran). 38 seniors, 13 coming back leaves you with 74. 21 signed and you’re at 95. 6 to 8 more gets you to 101-103. This meaning 5-7 kids leave. Let’s see who they get over the next 5 weeks. Thanks for this analysis. Where do the 5-7 come from? Walk ons on the current roster who are told they aren't needed anymore? I would assume that if players were transferring out and looking to play that the would have entered the portal by now.

If Joe DeSantis can get the lower leg scoop, I wonder if our broadcast team can somehow provide some additional info. Probably shouldn't count on it. A name from the past A HS teammate of HC’s Charley Brown at Tolentine in the Bronx A terrific playmaker for Fairfield in the late 70s- early 80s A coach for many years A fine person I remember DeSantis playing for Fairfield in the late 70s. I looked at his Wikipedia page to see exactly how old he is (65). This is in the introductory paragraph: "DeSantis is best remembered as "Joey D" and his role in leading the 1978 Fairfield Stags men's basketball team to a program best 22–5 overall record, a victory over the then #14 nationally ranked Holy Cross Crusaders, and a berth in the National Invitational Tournament."He mentioned HC having a proud basketball tradition a few times. No doubt he recalls it well. I wonder if GB recruited him. Of course, we had a pretty good scoring guard in that era.

Need to get the others to agree to 63 scholarships. Who do we think would would oppose that? I would think that this would be an easier rule change than nonmedical redshirts.

I was thinking about the last 4 coaches thing last night after watching the second half. The last head coach to win another D1 game post HC was George Blaney about 30 years ago. Coaches out there aren’t thinking about a school that won two national championships 65-75 years ago. They are looking at what has happened in the last 15 years and it ain’t good. I agree that the train wreck of the last decade is a more relevant fact to a job candidate than the glory of 60 years ago. I'm not sure about that 30 year stat as a candidate killer. Of the 5 former coaches since Coach Blaney, two are clearly done (Coaches Raynor and Kearney) and that does reflect poorly. Two coaches effectively retired (Coaches Willard and Carmody). I don't think that reflects poorly on the school. In all fairness, I don't think the book is closed on Coach Brown. He's an associate head coach at a P5 school with head coaching experience. Someone might be knocking on his door againIn an alternate universe, if MB had stayed at Mt.St. Mary's instead of coming to HC, and then moved on to Charleston and now Pitt, we would be bandying his name around this board as a possible replacement for BN. (Not saying I would want him, but his name would certainly come up.)

Damn, after seeing what SDSU is doing to Montana St today, we really weren't all that far away from -- to quote Jake Taylor -- "win[ning] the whole f****** thing" Hope any undecided recruits or seniors who can come back next year watch this and figure they could be national champs next year.

www.wgbh.org/news/politics/2022/12/15/gov-charlie-baker-named-next-president-of-the-ncaaThe other issue, Matheson said, is whether the crown jewel of the NCAA, March Madness, can be held together going forward, pointing out how important the redistribution of money from that tournament is to athletic programs across the country. "You're going to see more and more push by the Power 5 conferences1 to have more of their teams in there, fewer of the Holy Crosses, fewer of the University of Vermonts, more of the Dukes, more of the Kenutckys," he said. "And again, how are you going to split up that money? Are you gonna split up that money so that the conferences that do very well in the tournament, do they get even more of the proceeds out of it? Or is it gonna stay like today where the NCAA ... basically takes a bunch of men's basketball money and lavishes it on every single Divison I program — from men's swimming at Holy Cross and women's soccer at Harvard — and it doesn't all go back to the Kentucky and Louisville basketball programs." It was nice of the professor to mention his employer twice in an interview. He also correctly used the word "fewer" which is a mistake we pedants watch for here on Crossports.
