8485- Thanks. It's interesting to note that a cleric in Europe determines the core mission of Holy Cross College. Can you say (shhhh whisper) seminary? We could certainly "say" it...after all many of us graduated from Holy Cross. Of course, simply saying it means little here, since Holy Cross is not, and has never been, a seminary (except perhaps in your mind).. You seem to be surprised that a statement from the head of the Jesuit Order woud be important to Jesuits and their institutions. Why is that?

Sota, are your thoughts on religion new or did some philosopher of yore pen them first?

Facts suck, don't they, Caro? Yeah, the BE got more attention with Syracuse, Louisville, Pittsburgh, UConn, etc. in it. But, that doesn't mean the ten teams in the league aren't good on a national level, despite their games being relegated to FS1. The highest rated NBE Championship (Seton Hall-Nova last year) was ~40% lower than the worst rating from 2008-2013. Those darn facts... Are we talking about TV ratings or performance on the floor? Because the league, as a whole, had a good season.

ncaa- Are you serious? I'm amazed that a Liberal Arts college educated person could ask that seriously? If you are an HC grad you must have studied Philosophy and Religion, at least that was true in my day at HC.
rgs- I was under the misapprehension that HC owned its own identity. By "HC" I mean the Faculty and Board of Trustees.

Because the league, as a whole, had a good season. Well, my main point regarding BE vs NBE was around excitement and interest, so TV ratings would be a better metric than KenPom calcs. I never said the NBE wasn't "good," but rather that the whole package is a significant step down from the BE. (Side note: Excellent 1st half performance by South Carolina at MSG right now. Excellent DEFENSE and team play that is shutting down a "system" that is reliant solely upon talent and athleticism. Frank Martin is an elite coach.)

Allie Laforce: "What was your mentality heading into this game?"
Sindarius Thornwell: "Just guard, defend, and rebound."
South Carolina's star player after a thrashing of team with more raw talent, size and athleticism.

Defense like that has not been seen since GTOWN glory days. south carolina is a strong defensive team who looked very good tonight, but this is an absolutely ridiculous claim. south carolina wasn't even in the top 20 in defense this season, let alone the best since georgetown in the 1980's. in the unlikely event that south carolina goes on to win the ncaa tournament this year, one could potentially make a claim that they were the best defensive team this year. but they're actually pretty balanced offensively with thornwell and a few other scorers, unlike clearly superior defensive teams like uva, cincinatti, wisconsin who are more offensively challenged. people might start to take you seriously if you put any thought or perspective whatsoever into your posts. although you've probably forever tainted your credibility with thousands of absurd posts like this over the years.

Defense like that has not been seen since GTOWN glory days. I saw it last night- by West Virginia. And it was true all year. They said last night their opponents scored slightly over 800 baskets...and committed slightly under 800 turnovers. AnM incredible ratio. Getting back to South Carolina, Martin looks like he's going to bite some player's head off at some point. Like Knight and Gene Keady in their heyday.

Momma, they play basketball in the sec too. Should Wisconsin have missed 2nd free throw since shot would have been a 3 no matter what? FL, SC, Ky...oh my!

Watching some of the South Carolina game, I couldn't help but think of that Southern Illinois team (and their defense) that did us in in 2007. With the exception of Kansas, I always thought the SIU matchup was the most unfavorable of the NCAA tourney games - good, strong athletes, relentless defensive style, a chip on their shoulder that the blue bloods never had in a first round game.
Would like to see SC get to the Final Four.

But only the 5th best conference in the country per the KenPom Gospel... Most people judge the strength of conferences by looking at all the teams, not just the top ones. The SEC has two really bad teams (MO and LSU) and some other so-so ones. Still, Pomeroy has the SEC, Big 10, and Big East all about the same. Sagarin and most other rating systems also have the SEC 5th. Objectivity trumps subjectivity.

I'm happy I graduated from HC too. But it'S not the only Catholic college you can graduate from and be successful. To think so is being provincial to the extreme.

No one here suggested that and to imply that someone would love to go to a school just because they play great basketball is equally silly.
