Yes I have and will not debate what that effect is or how long lasting it may be, because as I read what I wrote, I was incorrect. There are some people who will choose a school just becasue they have a great basketball or football team.
What I should have said is ... to imply that any of us who attended Holy Cross would rather have gone someplace else that has a better basketball team today, is equally silly.

I was listening on ESPN radio about how disappointed CBS would be to have non blue bloods in the Final Four. Isn't there anyone else out there (besides me) who is happy to see a different school (or 2 or 3) crash the party? I don't get the infatuation with the one and done schools like Kentucky - why not just spend the time watching more NBA games?

Either North Carolina or Kentucky will have to fulfill the desire for a blue blood this year. Of course with back to backs, Florida's blood used to be pretty blue.

I'm happy I graduated from HC too. But it'S not the only Catholic college you can graduate from and be successful. To think so is being provincial to the extreme. Did someone actually say that HC was the only Catholic college whose graduates could be successful? Where? I seem to have missed it. There're, of course, many good Catholic colleges. I just feel that some may be better than others. I put HC in that category from my own experience there (and that of several of my students).

I have been watching most of the NCAA tournament and my impression is that HC basketball is the JV team compared to the teams in the Big Dance. Unless we start recruiting better athletes we will never get beyond the first game.

Totally agree Dave, but CBS's issue is same as all networks when any team in any championship that lacks strong national interest plays: They sell advertising well in advance to national companies (called "up fronts"), guaranteeing certain ratings #'s, and when those #'s aren't met, the networks are forced to give free ads in other programming to make up the difference which takes up commercial slots - "avails" - that could be sold to other businesses. This, plus ad rates next year are based on this year's ratings, so that means lost revenue next year as well. It's all and only about keeping the shareholders happy; sadly not what's of most interest for true CBB fans like us.

Gonzaga-Xavier. Wow. Spectacular top-quality bball. Showing us the true beauty of the game of bball. Zag's record over the last 18 years is phenomenal. What's the secret? Coach Few? Something else? McFarland (who had spent several years in a senior academic position at Gonzaga before becoming HC's president) had once said that Gonzaga had sold out to the athletic department

I believe many of us who are parents today and who were young adults in "the Vietnam era" have been too lax with our kids. Plus, the music industry, the game industry and Hollywood hijacked our kids, painting us parents as clueless.

The one facet of todays' games that really stands out to me was how ferocious the rebounding was..Not for the feint of heart to go inside!

FM suspended thornwell for about 6 games. FM knows suspension. The sc AD suspended him a couple years ago I think for raising his voice. SC coach Frank Martin has been suspended by the school for Saturday's regular-season finale at Mississippi State for harsh language aimed at his players during Tuesday night's 72-46 home loss to top-ranked Florida.

I think what they will really hate is if Gonzaga and Oregon face off in the final. It would be the first all Pacific Coast final, not to mention Northwest final. Much of the country might feel uninvolved. How do you guys on this board feel? Would that decrease your interest?

I am hoping to see Gonzaga in the final. However, since scheduling offers so little in time concessions to the East Coast, that game might start at 10pm e.s.t. or even later!

Are we talking about TV ratings or performance on the floor? Because the league, as a whole, had a good season. Well, my main point regarding BE vs NBE was around excitement and interest, so TV ratings would be a better metric than KenPom calcs. I never said the NBE wasn't "good," but rather that the whole package is a significant step down from the BE. (Side note: Excellent 1st half performance by South Carolina at MSG right now. Excellent DEFENSE and team play that is shutting down a "system" that is reliant solely upon talent and athleticism. Frank Martin is an elite coach.) It would be unfair to the NBE to expect it to equal the lofty heights its predecessor reached. Different time, different landscape. In the first four years of the NBE, it's had one national champion and in one year sent 7 of 10 teams to the NCAA Tournament. Over four years, 55% of the league has gone to the NCAAs (22 of 40). That's pretty good. Certainly room to grow - multiple Sweet 16 and Elite 8 teams in the same year, for example. Some people seem to forget that when the NBE was created, it was basically a startup that happened to have a brand name. If we're going to be completely fair, the NBE should be judged on what most people's expectations were of the league out of the gate, and many predicted that it would fizzle out. They've been disappointed so far.

Enjoy the way South Carolina plays. Great defense and offense in the paint. Plus Frank Martin is refreshing. No BS from him.

I'm rooting for the Zags as well. I just wish Butler had gotten by UNC; that would have made it perfect for me.
