Butler Basketball has some new faces. Meet Cooper Neese, Christian David, Aaron Thompson and Jerald
Are the Butler Bulldogs ready for prime time? Big East and TV executives must think so.
Butler will be showcased in four and maybe five basketball games on one of the major networks, according to the schedule released Tuesday. Butler had two such games last season. Butler plays Georgetown 12/27

I think this is pretty standard for the big boys. Tom Please name me even one other big boy that has median OOC team ranked anywhere near 321 West Virginia, who went to Sweet 16 last year and finished #7 in the final KenPom ratings, had an OOC rating of 340 per KenPom... and that's (presumably) including their 3 NCAA games. Other teams 320 or worse: Rutgers, DePaul, MissSt, NC State, VA Tech. Sadly, this level of creampuff scheduling isn't all that uncommon. Here is WV's OOC from last year (column 5 is KenPom ranking of the opponent). A couple of legitimate games vs. Illinois, Temple, UVA... not dissimilar from GTown going to Richmond and hosting Cuse. But the rest of it is cupcake city. Fri Nov 11 20 209 Mount St. Mary's W, 87-59 74 Home 1-0 Mon Nov 14 22 344 Mississippi Valley St. W, 107-66 85 Home 2-0 Sun Nov 20 25 182 New Hampshire W, 100-41 78 Home 3-0 Thu Nov 24 19 66 Illinois W, 89-57 73 Neutral 4-0 Fri Nov 25 10 118 Temple L, 81-77 72 Neutral 4-1 Mon Nov 28 18 287 Manhattan W, 108-61 87 Home 5-1 Sat Dec 3 15 12 Virginia W, 66-57 61 Away 6-1 Wed Dec 7 9 322 Western Carolina W, 90-37 75 Semi-Home 7-1 Sat Dec 10 9 328 VMI W, 90-55 70 Home 8-1 Sat Dec 17 8 219 UMKC W, 112-67 78 Home 9-1 Tue Dec 20 7 296 Radford W, 84-57 72 Home 10-1 Fri Dec 23 7 138 Northern Kentucky W, 92-61 76 Home 11-1

Ray--great work there---we should have known that such mendacity was widespread.... Still, Georgetown may be able to fend off all challengers for the coveted creampuff trophy...

NCAA Tournament games aren't factored into Ken Pomeroy's OOC rating, but your larger point rings true.

I don't know how but it seems like Colgate is often one step ahead of us on scheduling....going on +8 years now. If BC scheduled Colgate because they see them as less of a "threat" now and in in the future, that could explain BC scheduling of them ahead of HC. HC @ Conte brings 1,000+ tix sold
Colgate @ Conte brings maybe 26 tix sold

Yes, but the 26 sit in their assigned seats and are nice and quiet. The HC fans try to move down from the crappy seats BC gave them in a half-empty gym. And then! Oh, the noise! Oh, the Noise! Noise! Noise! Noise! That's one thing BC hated! The NOISE! NOISE! NOISE! NOISE!

As a group, URI returns FIVE guards that have had significant playing time. Four of these are seniors with a lot of experience (including winning the A-10 Tournament and winning an NCAA Tournament game). Adding to this mix is a new freshman guard the programs has high hopes for. There are likely few teams with as many good guards. Rhody's task this season will be to replace the two big men (Martin and Iverson) it lost last year. They are are the only players not returning. Will we ever see a Saturday night game again (with the students on campus) ? I think it's ridiculous that at least one cannot be worked out. I know that other PL teams have had sat night games in the past, and likely have some this coming season.

I'd disagree with "past three seasons," as we were in the PL title game in 2015 after literally losing a third of the team and almost all of our big men to injuries--we played 6-5 forward Marko Vasic at center by the time we met Lafayette in the final. But the last two years have been bad, no doubt. Folks were angry after an 8-22 season was followed by a bunch of transfers. Brennan needs to show improvement this season, particularly in PL play. No one is expecting a top-two finish but a top half finish would help him.

URI is scheduled to play Holy Cross at the DCU Center next season so you should see him up close. Rhody is nearly done with its recruiting for five spots next year. According to ESPN, Jermaine Harris and Dana Tate are both four stars and Amir Harris and Tyrese Martin are three stars. Rhode Island could potentially fill its last ship this Sunday when Brendan Adams, younger brother of St Bonaventure star guard Jaylen, makes his choice public. This may end up being the best overall class ever for the Rams as Coach Hurley appears to have really built off the momentum of the A-10 Tournament Championship and NCAA run of last season.
