All the Assumption talk is amusing.. I think a lot of folks don’t appreciate the difference between D1 and D2 football. HC’s current third teamers would whoop Assumption’s ass 6 days a week and twice on Sundays. Give me a break. I'm really not so sure about that.

And the gap between good D2 and bad 1AA isn't exactly the gap between Alabama and D2.

But the good thing is that if we hire Chesney, he won't be bringing his team from Assumption with him. The Celtics backups and D-League players would whoop Butler's ass 6 days a week and 3x on Sundays. Did that mean Brad Stevens couldn't be successful with the Celtics?

A good D2 football team can certainly play with a mediocre FCS team. A local example is Merrimack which outplayed Bryant for 3 1/2 quarters before losing.

Joe is right for the most part. A very good DII team would lose to a mediocre scholarship FCS team, but may not get destroyed. I note that our JV teams used to pay and destroy DII and DIII varsity teams, e.g. Bentley, Tufts, etc. That was before full scholarships.

I will stand behind my statement 100%. There’s no way on God’s green earth that the Assumption’s current roster can compete with HC’s roster, even with a better coach. You guys are cracking up; get it together.

Before WE had full scholarships, while DII programs gave some. There is a massive talent gap between the 2 levels.

You guys are cracking up; get it together. Wonderful! But that still does not say anything about whether or not Chesney is a good football coach. There is no way that Duke, Michigan St, Arizona, Kansas, etc. could compete with the Golden State Warriors. Does that mean that K, Izzo, Miller, and Self can't coach?

Got it. My initial statement generalized D1 vs D2 too much. Certainly I was thinking more specifically about Assumption and HC a short it relates to the fact that I believe strongly that we need a HC with D1 experience. Certainly there are outliers where a D2 school can win against a crappy D1 FCS school, but absolutely NO CHANCE with regard to HC vs Assumption. 63-3 would be a close game.
In terms of running a program and the reality of the commitment, intensity, pressure, and time invested as an athlete playing on a team, I think it’s commonly understood that D2 and D3 are more similar than comparing D1 FCS and D2. On the other hand, when comparing D1 FCS to D1 FBS everything is basically equally except there is a definite uptick on the average athleticism and talent at the FBS level (in general). I think this is pretty obvious. But running a team and being a player? Pretty much the same deal in FCS and FBS, hence why there aren’t a lot of inter divisional games.

HC is too difficult a place to coach, for a variety of well-established non-football reasons. Chesney, or any other up and coming D2 or D3 coach might very well succeed at HC, but i’m my opinion it’s too much of a gamble. Frankly I think a coach of this level would do better as a CAA school, for example, than at HC, where I think the focus is a little more on the game than all the other bull crap. If HC wants to get this done correctly they will put their money where their mouth is and bring in someone who has already been there and done that. The Carmody model works for me.

No, the Carmody model (of 2 whole years) that has won a PL tournament and an NCAA tournament game. If the next HC coach had two losing seasons after arriving (nothing new there) but won the PL in one of those years and then a post-season game, I have to think most folks would be thrilled.

You obviously never played or coached football You’re an imbecile. I played at Holy Cross dip#@*&$~!. Let me guess you played at Assumption. Assumption beat Fordham 24-30 in 2010 at Fordham. Fordham was schollie then. (We beat Fordham that year by 5 points).
A very good DII team can match up with a bad FCS team in a bad FCS Conference. I would expect Assumption this year to give a bottom Patriot Team a good game this year and maybe even win.

If i were an AD or fan I wouldn't be pleased with a team that had a losing record during the season and played well for 1 weekend of the year. what happened during the season?
