Yeah, heard that at least twice during the game in the context that Carmody was so impressed/surprised that HE offered him a schollie.

When did he become impressed?

Since Carmody has talked about this before, realizing that maybe he should have played Benzan more as a freshman,Pete Gillen may have misunderstood the story while talking to Carmody. Gillen mentioned it more than once, but it's fiction

I want to take a minute to thank all of the HC contingent who made it to Belfast to cheer on our team! It was great meeting many of you in person for the first time. Would I do it again...absolutely! Could some details have been improved? Certainly...things can always be better. Interesting to hear some of the varied reactions to CROSSPORTS (and to make some aware of our existence). I am truly looking forward to seeing what HC will do with the lessons learned on the Island of Saints and Scholars. Many thanks and GO CROSS GO!

Yes, but who gave him the incorrect info? Adnp? You're assuming that they did their homework, and weren't pulling this information out of their asses. This is not the Washington Post or NYT we're talking about. If we reference the journalistic integrity that WCHC Sports had, if I may toot my own horn... If I didn't know anything about the player, or even how to say his name, I said as much on the air, apologized for it, and hoped that the portrayal of the events on the FLOOR were accurate enough to paint the right picture. If he escaped from the Upside Down and saved Winona Ryder single-handed, it doesn't matter... it's all about the context of what happened in the game. The rest is hyperbole, and honestly, is a big factor towards what makes watching or listening to 90% of the broadcasts out there unbearable.

Ditto re: rgs318 ---------- Notwithstanding the two losses, the Belfast trip was good for the school and the team. The second half of Saturday's game showed a lot of the good that we saw vs. Harvard, and, I believe, gave the team something very positive to build on. The freshman and the team in general will only get better with time, and I think we're absolutely headed in the right direction. This team will be heard from in the months and years to come.
Lastly, and most importantly, I chatted with a number of the players while waiting to board in Dublin yesterday and then again while waiting for luggage in Boston. To a man, they were polite, well-spoken, and gentlemen who will never embarrass alma mater. As they say over there, "Well done, lads!"

Was at both games in Belfast. Interesting reading the take from people here that watched on TV. My advice to some: "get off the ledge!" We have a young team that simply did not play well on Friday. It was a long ride to get there, and our guys, for whatever reason, weren't ready. We'll see that with a young team, and I won't be surprised if we see that again before the season is over. They bounced back pretty well against a good LaSalle team and put themselves in a position to win a game which no one expected to win. (By the way, the Belfast bookmakers had HC +9.5, and I returned stateside with some Irish/Brit cash!) The second half looked a lot like the team that played Harvard, and the pieces look to be falling in place. I won't rehash the play and much of the comments here, but I remain optimistic. It was nice finally meeting rgs and a few others over in Belfast. It really was a nice trip and great city to visit! I would go back. . . . . in the summer!

Regarding the weather, have no fear, they will close the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge if the winds reach 35MPH. They were only 20MPH on Thursday so we were able to cross, incredibly beautiful spot, and a wee bit of an adventure if you don't like narrow, slightly wobbly rope bridges over the ocean

Watching the Manhattan game, pretty sure I just heard them say these were MAAC referees, everything we needed to know

Watching the Manhattan game, pretty sure I just heard them say these were MAAC referees, everything we needed to know The MAAC doesn't have its own referees. Like the PL and all other mid-major leagues, it takes refs from a large pool - all of whom ref in multiple leagues. Of the ones who did the HC-Manhattan games, two of them did a fair number of MAAC games last year (but not the majority of their games) and one did none.

True, but the fact that MAAC was the league sponsoring the tournament and MAAC commissioner Rich Ensor was heavily involved in setting it up and therefore responsible getting a trip to Ireland for the refs, didn’t hurt. Not that the refs had any impact on the outcome of the Manhattan game.

On the TV this came across as a Manhattan tournament. Virtually no shots of purple fans and lots of green clad Manhattan fans. MAAC commissioner shown multiple times throughout our game and other games.
Definitely gave the impression MAAC if not Manhattan was the host and/or initiator of the tournament.
Interesting that some of our people on the ground said only Manhattan team got there a day earlier.

Not sure if I'm the only one experienced this but TheScore mobile app played a cruel trick on me Friday around lunchtime. For low-level Division I basketball, the app only provides updates at halftime, "close game alert" if it's within 5 points and 2 minutes to go, and for the final score. Unfortunately, the halftime alert came across the top of my phone reading, "M Basketball Holy Cross 39, Manhattan 23 Half". Obviously this turned out to be wrong and resulted in a mental 32-point swing.

Interesting that some of our people on the ground said only Manhattan team got there a day earlier. The tourney was sponsored by the MAAC, the Basketball HOF, the Rory Foundation, a big deal over there due to it's size, and a few other organizations. Marist is penciled in for next year. Manhattan arrived in Dublin 5AM Wednesday, then like everyone took a bus to Belfast. The other three teams had the same itinerary, but on Thursday

That one day was quite a difference for players not used to jet lag and long plane trips. Seeing HC play Mahattan even through the second half makes it look as if there was a little jet lag in their first half performance.
