He is at 26.3 mpg., 4th on the team. If i recall, his minutes were greater in the earlier part of the season, esp the 8-9 early games he started.

We are a better team with two of our weakest defenders unavailable. Floyd’s inside presence has completely transformed the defense, and by having a smart player like Benzan now on the perimeter, we are not getting beat as badly at the 3 point line. Hard to believe Zignorski was starting over him for a long stretch of the season. As predicted all along, there is no reason why we shouldn’t have been competing for 2nd place in the PL and challenging a beatable Bucknell team. But you listed a million reasons during the first 20+ games. As predicted all along....thanks for the laugh Cheers.

Benzan averaged about 20 mpg in the first half of PL play, sixth on the team and just ~1 mpg more than Zignorski. I suspect Pat will be back to 32+ the rest of the way - let's see what happens.
We can agree to disagree on Benzan's importance.

We have lost 10 games to teams ranked above 200. That is unacceptable. For example, look at the numbers WorcesterGray posted on our 3 point defense and the impact of Benzan, yet there were ~13 games where Carmody foolishly started Zignorski over him, including a 1-5 start to PL play.

One nice development, pointed out earlier by another poster, in the "what might have been" loss to Bucknell was that we took 34 free throws to Bucknell's 29. In the first half of PL play our opponents took 147 to our 116. In the second half of PL play our deficit is only 10 --138 for opponents to our 128. We know the high correlation between taking more free throws and winning the game is skewed a bit because the trailing team may have to commit desperation fouls at game's end. Still, you have to like the way some of our guys are going to the basket and drawing more fouls now--and that's with our best foul-drawer, KC, out of action of late. Two examples--could be small sample anomalies, but I don't think so--are Pat Benzan (9 free throws in 167 minutes in 1st half of PL season vs 18 in 138 minutes in 2nd half) and Austin Butler ( 247 & 22 then 216 and 31).

Very poor coaching at the end, we need a better play with 12 seconds to go. This one is on the coach. Just watched the last 2 minutes - that last possession was a total disaster from start to finish. It started with Benzan struggling to control the ball up the court and likely traveling on a call missed by the officials, then while we clearly had absolutely nothing going the entire possession, Carmody waited until there was only 7 seconds on the shot clock to call a timeout. The play out of the timeout called for Floyd to set a ball screen for Benzan, meaning that you’re bringing the reigning Defensive Player of the Year (Foulland) into Benzan to hedge the screen, and then allowing less than 5 seconds to make a play from there. A play that was doomed from the start. The play was also designed to go to Niego’s side of the floor, rather than Butler, so Zach Thomas had no issue sagging off Niego to further block Benzan’s path. If Butler was in the corner, the defender would have had to remain closer to his man and if he didn’t it would allow for an easy pass from Benzan to Butler.

Also: ADNP needs to fire both Stadium and RSIG now!!!!!!!! And right after that he should be fired. We were 1-9 yesterday with only women's hockey beating a D2 school. And for those that didn't see it the last play in regulation was cut off, a-la the Heidi game.

ncaam, St Anselm's record against D1 and D2 teams is 20 wins, 3 losses, 4 ties. Two of those losses and one tie were with HC. I would suggest that you don't disparage that win is you don't know the opponent, other than they are D2.

Hey, did I miss something here? First someone said Ziggy was on the bench. Then in the article it said 3 players suspended and listed them. Not 4, not Ziggy. So does anyone know his status? Injured / Ill or Undetermined? No details needed. Thanks

In team sweats, like Perkins, whom he sat next to. Wouldn't be on the bench if he were suspended - wasn't available to play.

That's good enough- thanks. Happy to hear that. He wouldn't be on the bench if the other guys weren't.

I have no specific information on Ziggy
On Wednesday at Army, he was not noticeably in the building
On Saturday, he was on the bench in warm-ups during the game and was on the floor with the team for the national anthem. In that respect he was treated differently than Charles, Stevens, and, Powers. On the other hand, the pre-game radio show talks about injuries. I don;'t think he had been mentioned there either.
Not drawing conclusions or drawing inferences. Just pointing out what we have seen and how it aligns or varies from other players with known circumstances

Thought we were not going to post what we did not know. If he had the flu, he is not "injured" and would not have been described that way.

All lutsk said was Ziggy was not making the trip. No mention of flu or injury. Seems cruel on the coach’s part to not differentiate them under the circumstances.

As ncaam points out, with all that is going on, it would not be fair to Zignorski for neither Lutsk or Carmody to make a comment about him being hurt or sick (if that was actually the case) and allow anyone listening to make their own conclusions.

I, for one, am glad to see Ziggy with the team. No idea why he’s not playing but he obviously remains a part of the team, which is a good thing.

If his absence is either a punishment related to the suspensions or something totally separate, I don't want to speculate on it and am happy to see that he remains part of the team and will be back on the court soon.

Carmody rarely (never?) talks about player status, especially related to injuries. So there's no way he's going try to clarify injuries vs suspensions. I think to be safe, he just is not going to talk about any of this in public, especially on the radio. And I'm sure Zig has been told that also, to be fair
