Note that the HC freshmen played 63% of the minutes and scored 70% of the points last night. We do understand that KC, a junior, is out and the 63 & 70 would be lower if he were available to play. For the season the frosh have played 53% of the minutes and scored 53% of the points.
Lafayette, for comparison, is also relying heavily on its fine freshman class which has played 39% of the minutes and scored 46% of the team's points year-to-date.

Were any senior managers honored last night ? No - although I don't know if any managers are seniors. There was a junior last year, but he is off at Columbia with a 3-2 ---------------------------------------- Standing in the front row of the footballers was former hoops part-time walk-on Derek Mountain

A great atmosphere tonight, kudos to the football team! This team is growing before our eyes..The offense has morphed from one that relied on the 3 ball to one that attacks the rim..The freshman have all gained confidence and understanding in what Coach wants..AB is such a good competitor, and plays with a lot of energy..He has become a solid defender and rebounder..Grandi is a handful. He has found his legs, and now rebounds above the rim with Floyd.. The backcourt of Pat and Caleb have learned to play together...Caleb has developed that driving layup ala Kyrie Irving where he gets it off quickly and reaches out in front of him. Floyd is developing his game, he is a threat at both ends..Tonight, AU didn't go to the hoop when he was in the game, as soon as Faw entered, AU attacked the inside.. .Floyd is becoming a good passer, not great, but good...The game tonight, in the second half it was all about the D..HC got to shooters a step sooner, and forced turnovers with their pressure...(Only one possession in the 1-3-1, caught AU by surprise and earned an unforced turnover...) The entire team works hard! AB got teed up, and Coach told him "It's OK" ..His physical play is a challenge for defenders..Pat and Caleb were pretty good with the ball...and made good decisions for the most part.. Such a different looking team out there from the OOC schedule! Jehyve had 10 assists in the first half of the PL conference play and has 20 so far in the second half.

He has improved from both the high post, as he showed with his pass to Grandy last night, as well as from the medium post when he passes over his shoulder to cutters for layups

Leave it to the great Class of ‘67 to provide cheering, fannies in the seats and money in the HC funds?

I watched the replay of the game. A few reactions jumped out to me..When Austin got the T, Pat immediately grabbed him to try to save him..and Caleb looked Austin in the eye and pointed to the scoreboard and told him to look at the time and score...Both Pat and Caleb showed a lot of leadership there....Coach showed a lot of restraint, AB didn't catch a lot of flak...Grandi made and inbound pass to Floyd late inthe game against pressure.. Floyd was fouled...(made 1 of 2). Grandi didn't know why coach was upset about the pass..Players have to know who they are passing to at all time.. The refs had a hard time calling travels..missed an obvious one at the end of the first half, the AU player caught the ball in the corner, on one foot and hoped to steady himself..Should have been a travel..and Grandi got called late in the game from the top of the key..NO travel there..Landed on 2 feet, started his dribble with a step to the left..all legal..Overall the zebras did a good job, they will never get all the calls right, and the block charge call is always open to guess....

To me it appeared that the punk from American threw AB to the floor but the ref did not see it. When AB reacted in anger the ref was looking and T'd him up.

It looked that way to me as well. (He appeared to grab AB’s butt and to push him out and down. He then had his hand near AB’s face and AB hit it aside.) At least he did not “bite him.”

To me it looked like an accidental play, by the AU player that AB misinterpreted as intentional. It was a very bad time for him to get a t. I love his intensity, but it must be controlled in game deciding situations.

I thought it was much more than what I saw on the video...Live it looked like he got mugged and took a swing at the AU kid..On video, not so much, just a bit of incidental contact..However, the original contact up the lane was more of a fore arm shiver..That could have been what AB was reacting to...

Let's stop making excuses. Our guy had a great game that he almost threw away with a dumb play. Learn from it and move on.

The football players' chants were awesome; brought back memories! And the way they marched in (from the back end of the gym) right before tipoff sent me back to The March at AU in 2009 (calling SoV!).
Glad the guys got it done; with the way AU was hitting threes in the first half, I was starting to wonder if it was going to be one of those nights. I feel for AU; they've been in a lot of these kind of games - I feel like they are better than their record. If they get Gasperini back next year they could take a major step up, imo.
As cool as it was having the football players there, I thought in the very beginning it might have amped the guys up just a bit. They seemed to rush things a little bit, then settled down.
A key play for me was JF's BIG block on Nelson early in the second half. The Jehvye Factor then seemed to be in play for the next few possessions, as AU seemed to play a little tentative around the basket.
Getting so close to my favorite time of the year!

Regarding the Jehyve Factor, he seems to be keeping more of his blocks in play with some leading to fast break opportunities (If it is not blasphemy to old time Celtic fans, a slight bit reminiscent of a lefty shot blocker, Bill Something)

Ziggy is back!!!!!!!!!!! But not starting. At least for now, Pat and Caleb are the best combo. Didn't think that was the case the first go round, but clear that it is now. Don't see that changing the rest of the season.

For the second game in a row, MF has shown the ability to drive and finish at the hoop. Vs Bucknell, one lefty off the left foot. Not easy. Expanding his game. Maybe play some 4 next season. Played there with JF at the 5 briefly vs Bucknell in second half.

Don't see that changing the rest of the season. True enough. However the game after Pat and Caleb played 45 and 41 minutes, it was nice to have a reliable back-up so the starters wouldn't be gassed for crunch time. I was glad to see him dressed

Counterpoint: the coaches have to know which players to put on the floor to maximize their situational success rates. Carm had an opportunity to sub out Jehyve before that play and didn't.

I liked seeing the football players in the crowd while watching on the PLN. While they have always been a good portion of the student section, there seems to be even more than we have seen previously seen. Perhaps Coach Chesney is encouraging it? I recall running in a home cross country meet my senior year on a Friday afternoon. We started and finished behind Hart (after working our way all the way down the campus and back up.) After coming up a steep trail that started near Loyola, we ran down one sideline of the practice field, around the end, and finished down the opposite side. I recall then assistant coach Duffner interrupting practice and sending players to the sidelines to cheer us on to the finish. I can say I beat the guy I was battling and was appreciative of the fact that they took a few minutes out of their Friday walk through to support us. Given the relative lack of interest among the student body as a whole, athletes need to support each other.

JF has been left on the floor a number of times this year when there was an opportunity to substitute a better foul shooter. Luckily it has not come back to haunt us. Does the college rule not allow you to wrap up a player off the ball as happens all the time in the NBA to foul poor shooters. Is doing this an intentional foul in college? In the NBA you can't do this in the final two minutes of the game does college have the same rule?
