If Floyd shot the ball more than nine times per game in the PL, he would have had a better chance. In the eyes of voters, he probably didn't make enough of an impact on the offensive end (rebounding, FT shooting weren't good) to warrant first team status.

Would think not taking a shot further than 6 feet from the basket and free throw shooting factored into second team selection it as well.

Best defender in the league, and defense is half the game of basketball. On the offensive side: Broke the PL record for FG% by a wide margin. Current nearly leading the nation in FG%. 12.5 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.5 assist, 2.5 blocks (led PL by a wide margin) per game.
It’s a joke he isn’t 1st team. Clearly the fact that we finished dead last hurt him, which it shouldn’t, as these are individual accolades and not team accolades. Should be swapped with either Mackenzie or Tejada. They averaged more points on better teams (teams with much faster tempo, btw). That’s it.

The fact that Floyd only took 19% of the HC shots while he was on the floor likely killed his chances. (Would have been even lower if not for him getting more offensive boards than any other HC player by a wide margin.) Also he was 9th among the 10 PL starting big men in rebound rate (i.e. pct of available rebounds while he was on the floor). A lot of it wasn't his fault but rather the fault of the HC offense and defense. I don't think many people expected to see him make 1st team.

This is like picking the 4 "best actors" for Oscars and no one for best best supporting actor, best supporting actress, best actor, best actress . . . . . . you get the point.

The selections (if we accept that they are appropriate) literally reinforce the point that senior JF is our only outstanding player (and he is an outstanding player by PL standards on both offense and defense). That sort of simplifies things for our opponents this year - but beyond that it clarifies our expectations for next year.

Clearly the fact that we finished dead last hurt him, which it shouldn’t, as these are individual accolades and not team accolades. Should be swapped with either Mackenzie or Tejada. They averaged more points on better teams (teams with much faster tempo, btw). That’s it. If I must nitpick (and I must, because you call it a "joke" he's not 1st team), he didn't score enough. I start there. You can have a high FG%, and his was exceptional, and that would help boost his offensive profile, but as noted ad infinitum on this board, JF was not used enough on offense. He didn't "go get his" enough. And it hurts him here. Perhaps some folks would say that the small sample size of offense per game made the FG% easier to attain... that's a bit of a stretch but it has to be considered with lots of other strong, deserving candidates. Secondary points: The HC record must be factored in. Sure, it's individual accolades, but all things being equal, if one individual helps his team win games, and another wins fewer, it must be accounted for. There are lots of mitigating factors (teammates, coaching, injuries, etc.) but one player's team wins and another's loses. And it's about the Ws and Ls. Floyd improved it late in the season, but he's not been a good free throw shooter long term. Floyd fought foul trouble nearly every game. Yes, he dramatically impacts the game as one of the best, if not THE best, player on the floor when he's out there. But when he has to go to the bench because of two quick fouls (more reliable than a Carmody white flag in the face of a rebound), he's not helping the team. Again, I nitpick, and would love to have Floyd for 20 more years. 2nd team is no joke, and I think with the HC performance in the cellar of the PL, the fact that he was noticed, and selected to all-league accolades, as well as being DPOY, speaks volumes about just how much he had to accomplish to get there, well-deservedly.

JF played 30.7 mpg, committed 85 fouls in 31 games, fouling out of 3 games. For a player who led the conf in blocks by a wide margin, that is not an inordinate amount of fouls

Right. But it proves that Carmody's strategy of the quick hook had to be employed, or at least somewhat justifies it. Add five more MPG to his playing time this season, where the best player on the HC roster probably SHOULD be if he could physically tolerate it, and he'd probably add what, four more points, one more block, and maybe (heaven forbid) a rebound or two to his per-game stats.
I'm nitpicking again, and my intention is not to tear down JF, who I am appreciative of wholly... but his stats on a last place team fits perfectly with the 2nd team, and being acknowledged by the biggest defensive force in the league bar none highlights his strengths perfectly.

But for those who are nevertheless perplexed he did commit a good many fouls early I'd also add that all our opposing coaches knew that JF was our only outstanding (above average PL) player. Offense and defense. Don't have to be a coaching genius to instruct your players to draw fouls (up to and including flopping) from our only real inside threat. Our second best inside threat (offense and defense) was so far below JF that a draw-foul strategy is a complete no-brainer.

I'm a huge Floyd fan, but in all fairness, the lowest scoring average on the 1st team is 14.6 compared to FLoyd's 12.5. And points is everybody's favorite stat

...so this is a team, not of players, but of "favorite stats?" I see your point, Tom, but I also see all-star teams as "teams" and not just a list of very good players. That is my own opinion, not a "fact." I remember seeing an All-County team in NJ that had 5 centers/forwards on first team...and no guards. Most coaches would have taken a balanced team and run that group out of the gym. In fact, two of the players were on a local public high school that my high school (BC) played. With no first or even second team all-stars, we were leading 27-0 in the first quarter before they scored. They could not get the ball across half court without a turnover (usually a steal) because their ball-handling was awful. BC won the game by over 20 points. Of course, if this is simply all-stars, and not a "team" that is very different. This seems to be more of an issue in basketball than in any other sport. I have never seem a football all-star team with 11 quarterbacks, or a baseball team with 10 pitchers and no catcher or other fielders. There is a big a difference between a point-guard's role and abilities and those of a big man that is at least as big as the difference that is acknowledged in other sports.

It is strange that the most feared player in the league did not make First Team. No doubt his defense was the most feared in the league (he was PL defensive POY)...not sure his offense was the most feared in the league (of course down low on offense he was our most feared player by a mile).

That is a valid opinion, SoV. There are many who feel otherwise and believe such post-season honors should treat hoops as a team, just as they do in every other sport.

PS: Having been on selection committees for many sports all-star teams, I am a bit of a heretic. Would the PL somehow have been hurt had there been 6 players on first team? It often happens that there are two top players with very different strengths, either of whom could be a valid selection. My preference was always to go with the extra player(s) on first team. If this is simply a list of top players and not a team, why not do it? In another sport, bowling, for one example, there were five person teams, but there are 7 selected to the post-season all-star team. In baseball there are often more than 9 players, even though that is how many play at any given time (10 with a DH). These selections are to some degree "political" and not as clean cut as some might like to believe.

Is the team chosen based on PL play only or the full season. Floyd averaged 15.6 points in league play. If it's league play only Jordan Burns should not be on 2nd team, he's not even in the top twenty in scoring and has not been good since returning from injury. Please note Bison that Bucknell is not the only team playing with someone at less than full strength.

It depends on which stats you choose. FG %, + blocked shots,+ assists, + assist to turnover ratio (the last two esp for a center) =Floyd points=others

Let's include points because, besides preventing them, which JF can do, you have to score them to win. Also, winning, which HC would not have done. Fair or not, the team is in last place. If HC was in first place, the best player on the best team would likely be on the best selection of individual accolades, in my opinion.

Sestina from Bucknell put up very similar numbers to Floyd while playing on a team that finished T-1, and was also named to the 2nd team.
Floyd was a 1st team (and POY) talent who was used like he was "just a guy" in Carmody's offensive system. There really is no other excuse for him not being a 20(+) & 10 guy in the PL this year.
