I presume the higher score is the better one ? You want a high o-rating (creating points per 100 possessions) and a low d-rating (stopping opponents from scoring).So the Net between the two would seem to be a good single measure

Here are the o-ratings and d-ratings from Patriot League play Player = O-Rating less D-Rating= NET Nelson= 113.5 less 100.4= 13.1
MacKenzie= 119.1 less 106.5= 12.6
Tejada= 119.4 less 113.1= 6.3
Kostecka= 115.1 less 100.4= 14.7
Ivanauskas= 117.9 less 104.2= 13.7
Floyd= 122.5 less 107.6= 14.9
Another stat for SOV based on this maybe Tejada belongs on the third team ? those who think Jehyve is not deserving of first team, what say you ?

Applying what I learned last time (a lower D Rating is better), the stat is saying that Floyd is the 5th best defender in the group. Bull crap. Did find this blurb on Sports-Reference: Out of necessity (owing to a lack of defensive data in the basic boxscore), individual Defensive Ratings are heavily influenced by the team's defensive efficiency. They assume that all teammates are equally good (per minute) at forcing non-steal turnovers and non-block misses, as well as assuming that all teammates face the same number of total possessions per minute.The players' high school SAT scores are about as relevant as these D Ratings.

OK Jehyve has by far the best OR. And he is the most effective interior defender, based on the block stat and the intimidation factor.. Not first team ?

1st team All Patriot League should mean the 5 best players.this season. Jehyve is one of the 5 best players.this season. Period. Jehyve may well be one of the five best players. But due to his total misuse by CBC he didn't contribute nearly as much offensively as any of the first-teamers did. The goal is NOT to pick the five best players but rather the five who contributed to the most.

It's amusing how invested you have been getting in Jehyve's postseason accolades, but offer little commentary about the team's performance throughout the PL. For reasons I have already stated, I think Floyd's second team honor is appropriate.

Obviously not his fault. Imo the record should not be a reason to punish him

Those last two replies by Bison and BBC were what I was going to get at. Potential =/= results. JF was not used as much/solely/wholly/whatever, and his team performed poorly as a collective unit. In basketball, where one dominant player can carry a team, HC finished in last place. Now, I wholeheartedly would argue that HC would be even WORSE record-wise if JF was for us unfortunately not part of the picture... but we can only see what we see. I think the HC team performance dragged him down in this accolade. And even that, we're saying he's among the top 5-10 players in the whole league? No small potatoes. Congrats to the young man, proud he represented our school, and will continue to do so.

You had asked me for a response during the losing and I replied that I was very disappointed with the coach and players to blame. i did not see any reason to repeat that.since my feelings remained the same. i do not see any contradiction with that and my investment into Jehyve’s very solid season

FWIW, Pomeroy has the All-PL team as follows:
1 Sa'eed Nelson, American (Jr) 2 Andrew Kostecka, Loyola MD (Jr) 3 Rapolas Ivanauskas, Colgate (So) 4 Max Mahoney, Boston University (Jr) 5 Nate Sestina, Bucknell (Sr)

In basketball, where one dominant player can carry a team, I totally disagree that one dominant player can carry a team.there are many examples of leading NCAA scorers and rebounders on losing teams. JF’s offensive skills improved a great deal, but with his shooting weakness he could not carry us offensively (The Lakers are currently in 10th Place in the West, 6 games out of a playoff spot.)

Not to get into a fight over this, but this is much the same argument I made last year with Sa'eed Nelson, whose numbers were outstanding, but who was on the last-place team in the PL. People say that doesn't matter, but of course it does. Objectively, Sa'eed had a better season last year than Andre Walker from Loyola, which finished with just three more wins than AU last year and finished eighth, but who was nonetheless voted first team. But, AU was 10th. So, Sa'eed was voted second team, just as Jehyve got this year. Right or wrong, where your team finishes obviously does matter to the voters.

The big difference is that Sa’eed had one more year to be rewarded, Jehyve is done.

The big difference is that Sa’eed had one more year to be rewarded, Jehyve is done. After watching Floyd's competitive and selfless attitude on the floor over the last four years, I would guess that he is more focused on wins & losses, and far less concerned about 1st team all-pL vs 2nd team all-pL than many on Crossports.

The big difference is that Sa’eed had one more year to be rewarded, Jehyve is done. Personally, I used to feel that way, but few do. I now understand those who said that just because you may have another year of eligibility, that dos not mean you will have a year as good or better than this one. I now take each year as it comes. Having additional time of 1 or more years may be a consolation to a player or coach, but from my experience, very few voters take that into account.

No and they should not. i was responding to njj’s post about how Sa’eed was treated similarly to JF. I did not imply that the class should matter Jehyve deserved first team no matter what class he was in.

Apologies if this has already been answered--I understand that the "All-PL" team is the top 5 vote getters, regardless of position, but do the voters vote for five players at any position or do they vote for C-F-F-G-G?

If the offense went thru him, he should have averaged 20 shots a game. There isn't a player in PL that could stop him. Foul trouble and this offense kept him from averaging 20 points, 10 rebounds a night. Add in his blocks, national player of year candidate.

I have not read it here, but In PL games, which some here have said are the basis for post season honors, Jehyve was 8th in scoring at 15.6. Tejada scored 16.2. Add his blocks, FG% , assists and he is more deserving than Tejada His mpg were at 32.6, Grandy at 33.8 The top four plus #6 scorers made the PL first team
