That series of officiating was abysmal. How do you call an offensive lineman downfield when they're throwing from the 12 yard line? I mean you're allowed to go about 4 yards downfield anyway? The fumble? They never gained possession? We needed points there. Awful. This sequence was a big turnaround. The OL downfield was the correct call. He was 5 to 6 yards downfield. The PF in the endzone was atrocious. Instead of having the ball at the 12 after off-setting penalties you're backed up to like the 27 and need the QB to make a big play which just wasn't happening. The PF was the turning point for momentum and then add the 2nd half kickoff fumble and that was it. Swimming upstream after that.

I, for one, am not have not jumped on or off. I support HCFB win or lose. However, I have been consistent in my disdain for OC since last year. I can say with total confidence that we will not get to the next level as a program with him helming the offense. I actually like Chesney and I think he will elevate the program, but he is failing in recognizing that Murphy is hurting him, this team and the program. Murphy flat out sucks and needs to go. We will not beat Fordham or GTown if he continues to call games this way. What plays would you like him to call? If you're upset that there hasn't been a QB change I'm with you but the staff is working with an average at best QB. Degenhardt is who he is. When the running game is stalled he more than likely is unable to win the game for you. QB is better when we are in obvious passing plays. Run is not setting up pass. Two shorts runs, 3 and long. Not real RPO as they are just doing delayed handoffs. If there are RPO, we would be pulling it more. These are just poorly designed 1 and 2 down plays. Not getting athletes in space - everything is trailing and across field. No screen game with Cozier, AA or Tenio. Are you kidding me? Down field throws have 2 recievers in area meaning 3 DB’s most of the time.

I cant feel confident in any team whose qb has a pass completion pct of 51 - that is so low Such lack of accuracy will eventually come back to bite you - our defense has to win games like today’s and they didn’t

This loss had nothing to do with the players, the coaches, the weather or the fans or lack thereof. Clearly, it was Fate, I tell you; pure and simple. Fate. Undeniably, the crashing of the webcams was a portent, an omen of the loss to come. We were blacked out. Our loss lay not in our play on the field but in our stars. It was a mandate from heaven. Win out and become champions once again. LoveHC PS I also refer one and all to the recent Giants black cat game. The G-Men were holding their own. A black cat appears, scampers across the field and the game stops The Giants quickly went downhill after that darn cat showed up. Another omen. Another loss. Oh, cruel Fate! The black cat bit us in Worcester, Durham, NH. and Champaign, IL. all in the same afternoon. In the week after Halloween black cats' powers are supercharged.

Murphy replaced Liam Coen, who came from UMaine (Brown, URI, and UMass before that). Coen lasted a few weeks before departing for the LA Rams, where he continues to coach wide receivers. If there was money for Coen, there was money for a qualified replacement.

If there was money for Coen, there was money for a qualified replacement. We mourned the loss of Laugh-In's Arte Johnson on this board awhile back. He would have said "Verrry Interesting". I would have assumed HC probably did not have the budget for an experienced D-1 OC, DC or HC and certainly not all three at the same time. The last time we hired an experienced D-1 HC was Dan Allen and he was motivated to return to HC as BU would soon drop football, although I don't remember if that was a known factor at the time. The last experienced D-1 HC to be hired before that was Neil Wheelwright from Colgate. I am working from memory. Perhaps I could have overlooked someone.

No. Frustration mixed with hope is better than apathy. Maybe we could train new grads and young fans to get excited about D-3 but it's tough to teach old dogs new tricks.

HC's football coaches were paid a total of about $1.5 million in 2017-18. Scollies (60 @ $65K each) cost about $3.9M, operating expenses were $560,000, recruiting was probably no more than $170,000, Total expenses were $6,133,000. Remainder was about $1.5M, which was coaches' salaries. To be fair, the $ amount for coaches could include compensation for TG and assistants. However, in that same year, Colgate spent $6.2M on football, with operating expenses of $700,000. Georgetown spent $2.040M with no fin aid, and $460,000 in operating expenses. -------------------------- At Tufts, where Murphy came from, total football expenses were$630,000, of which $90,000 was operating expenses. Recruiting expenses for all men's sports were $58,000. No scollies. Football coaches salaries probably totaled $520-525,000.

It’s just beyond frustrating with this team. Think about it. 25+ years of awful football other than 2009. Today was so disappointing......

Shoemaker throws a lot of interceptions but we had none today. He also had been getting sacked a lot but I don’t think we got the 4 I expected today.

Tough day for Crusaders across the board with losses in football (3), men’s basketball (4) and women’s basketball (3 - OT). Makes for a very frustrating/disappointing Saturday.
Let’s hope that there are better things to come for all of ‘em.

Never going to be successful in college football today if we keep banging our head against the wall with this incompetent Offensive Coordinator.

Shoemaker throws a lot of interceptions but we had none today. He also had been getting sacked a lot but I don’t think we got the 4 I expected today. One thing I noticed was that, on those occasions when one of our DBs was near a throw, they never seemed to get their head around to find the ball. This resulted in at least one pass interference call on a ball that was well underthrown.

That had been a problem last year and the early part of this season but it appeared to have been an issue that was fixed . . . . . until today . . . . again.
Seemed that a lot of issues we thought we had gotten passed returned today. Connor back to throwing exclusively to his primary receiver though that might be exacerbated by the Lafayette pressure. Our running game didn't get untracked and for the first time in 3-4 games, we had no long rushing gainers. Our DBs that have been so good of late got beat on long passes twice.
Somewhere one of our more astute posters warned that we shouldn't be surprised if we played a stinker (no, it wasn't me) and whoever it was was right.

One thing I didn’t see mentioned was the questionable call on second down on Lafayette’s final drive. The runner inexplicably went out of bounds which should have stopped the clock. The referee wound his arm to keep the clock moving. Chesney was furious. No idea why the runner went anywhere near the sideline but it appeared to be the break we needed. Ref must have claimed that his forward momentum had stopped inbounds. They were also restarting the clock very quickly after our first downs on our final drive. On a couple of them, fhe ball was still in the ref’s hand and his partner in crime is motioning to start the game clock. I always thought they put the ball down and got out of the way before starting it. We also lost a few seconds when a Lafayette player was “injured” on our final drive.

Have no idea how a referee could say that his "momentum" was stopped in the field of play... If Gilmore was still with us, would have followed the referee to his car at the top of Hart (Luth)

Agree, moose and the team still has my support but that doesn't mean we can't try to be objective. Guarantee you that Coach Chesney and the players don't think they played a good game today.
But, ever the optimist, I believe that we will win our remaining 2 games in the regular schedule to ensure our first winning season in a while AND, former Coach Tom Gilmore will do one, last favor for the Crusaders by picking off Lafayette in their last game of the season so that Holy Cross will be PL champs and go to the playoffs.

Definitely an overstatement but it’s been a pretty tough stretch of Crusader football since 1992 but for the Randolph years. Since 1992, we have had 8 winning seasons in the PL. The four Randolph years and four others. One league title in the last 27 seasons.
