No. Frustration mixed with hope is better than apathy. Maybe we could train new grads and young fans to get excited about D-3 but it's tough to teach old dogs new tricks. I support HC wherever. But, it might be hard to support a DIII Holy Cross until I stopped vomiting. HC will not be dropping to DIII, so why do a few people keep trowing it out there? What purpose does this nonsense serve?

Technically, we have several coaches on the offensive side of the ball that would struggle in DIII. I am not sure what the point he was trying to make, but the vast majority support Holy Cross being a successful FCS program. Part of that responsibility is bringing in better coaches on the offensive side of the ball that align with that vision.

That is good to hear. We can agree on that.

Well its not all the OC today, he struggles. He calls a great screen play against UNH and a receiver pass down the field once every 6 weeks. Every other call is so predictable. Surprised the defense got beat deep twice. Roberts momentum killing fumble. How many is that. Enough is enough.
There is still hope because Lafayette according to Massey is under dogs in both. The trouble is will we respond against Fordham and play like we did against Colgate and Lehigh or play like we did today.

Can anyone who coached/played/reffed explain to me the rule(s) around determining when a clock should/shouldn’t stop after a player goes out of bounds inside the last two minutes?
I understand that the “forward momentum” of a runner being stopped in bounds will keep the clock running. I just always struggled to understand how that is determined in certain situations. Especially when a player is running out of bounds (or near the sideline) and is pushed/tackled out of bounds.
For the record, I’m not saying the play at the end of the game was necessarily ruled incorrectly. Just am looking for a thoughtful explanation on this topic and/or some perspective from some folks who know more than I do. I played a long time ago, but I was just a dumb lineman and didn’t learn these nuances.

If there are 2:00 or more left on the clock when a player goes out of bounds, the game clock will begin on the referee’s ready for play signal.

Chesney telling the media his new dog's name was Champ this week sums up Chesney to me. The guy is 10-12, talking about his dog rather than making needed changes.
Imagine Gilmore taking about his dog? hahahahaha.

Imagine Gilmore being anywhere near as good a coach as Bob Chesney? hahahahaha. We've got it: you played for Coach Gilmore and support him, but try to be objective. Who cares about his dog or his sunglasses--let's judge him solely on what he does as the football coach Are you a betting man? Would you make a bet on Bob Chesney's Patriot League record versus Tom Gilmore"s for their careers at HC?

I haven’t seen any evidence yet that Chesney is a better coach than Gilmore.

I am arguing that Chesney is not held to the same standard as Gilmore. I thought it was time for HC/Gilmore to part in 2017, but with that change I expected improvement. I actually view Chesney as a regression. The only saving grace is his defensive staff (Scott James, etc). As a head coach, you have to be willing to make difficult decisions to spur change and haven't seen it in his tenure. Actually, there have been zero changes made on the offensive side of the ball. The key game changer against Lehigh was Gilmore's recruit (Cozier).

5 turnovers. That's the only story. Don't turn the ball over 5 times, we win.

The overall schedules Chesney has had to play the last 2 years were much more difficult than most of Gilmore's schedules.

Has anyone ever won a game where they turned the ball over 5 times?

The overall schedules Chesney has had to play the last 2 years were much more difficult than most of Gilmore's schedules. I agree. But, Gilmore almost upset UCONN and gave us the most competitive FBS experience. Chesney basically took a knee for 4 quarters against BC, Syracuse, and Navy. The reason I bring this up is to play devil's advocate. The standard needs to be unified across the board. There is ABSOLUTELY ZERO REASONS why we can't win the Patriot League Title outright with our current weapons. We are losing to inferior programs due to JV caliber schemes on the offensive side of the ball and a lack of concentration when it matters.

5 turnovers were the difference but if you want to fault Ray-Bans, we basically didn't show up to play today in the 1st H. Was it the Lehigh hangovah, overlooking 2-7 LC at home? Who knows?
Maybe a lesson learned.

Eye-test, I wouldn't say Lafayette was that much inferior in terms of personnel. They definitely had the better QB and their interior lines mostly outplayed us.

They have gotten better on the offense side of the ball as the year has gone on. (Similar to UNH) We have not progressed because we refuse to make obvious changes. Just keep on doing the same thing every week.... Defense has tried, but you can't win games with 1/2 of a team.

Agree, moose and the team still has my support but that doesn't mean we can't try to be objective. Guarantee you that Coach Chesney and the players don't think they played a good game today. But, ever the optimist, I believe that we will win our remaining 2 games in the regular schedule to ensure our first winning season in a while AND, former Coach Tom Gilmore will do one, last favor for the Crusaders by picking off Lafayette in their last game of the season so that Holy Cross will be PL champs and go to the playoffs. "... that doesn't mean we can't try to be objective" if you think that trying to sell snake oil remedies is being objective then you do have a point. ".. .Coach Chesney and the players don't think they played a good game today." any time you lose a football game by 3 points all you can think of are the missed opportunities. if they played hard today and did not quit then they played a good game. imho, they played a good game.

Don't disagree....the offense is far behind the D right now...who actually played pretty well once they woke up today.
It is what it is...going to have to tighten things up in da Bronx next week and root for the Red Raidahhs from afar.

. if they played hard today and did not quit then they played a good game. imho, they played a good game. I think every HC coach and player would say they didn’t okay and coach a good game today. Actually, I thought the defense was mostly good, as they have been all season.

The overall schedules Chesney has had to play the last 2 years were much more difficult than most of Gilmore's schedules. While the overall schedule has been more difficult, the PL is as weak as it’s ever been right now. It would be a mighty tough argument to say that Gilmore couldn’t have HC in the same (or better) position in the PL if he was still in Worcester. While I think Chesney could do a very good job at HC, the notion that he is some sort of savior is premature at this point.

The overall schedules Chesney has had to play the last 2 years were much more difficult than most of Gilmore's schedules. Sure we weren't able to schedule FBS schools for most of his tenure here but our schedules were far from a cake walk most years. While he was head coach, we played UMASS 4 times, @ Delaware, Yale at least three times (07 and 08 teams were very good), UNH 4 times, Brown 6 times (Brown was a fairly strong IL team from 2005-2010, winning league in '05), UCONN in 2017. Dartmouth was also very much on the rise the last few times TG faced the Big Green. Not to mention, we played Harvard just about every year, they probably averaged about 8.5 wins / season during the TG era.

I also remember a game against a really strong Towson team many years ago. The Monmouth team that TG played in his final season was also very strong.

During the 4 years I was at Holy Cross,, we played some absolutely stacked PL (Lehigh, Colgate, Lafayette, Bucknell, Fordham), Ivy (Harvard, Yale, Brown), and CAA teams (Delaware, Towson). Yes, the out of conference games (Syracuse, Navy, and BC) have been a step up, but the vast majority of PL, CAA, and even Ivy is a step down. Keep in mind that Ryan Fitzpatrick played for Harvard in 2003 and 2004. Gilmore played some great teams during his tenure and definitely had some quality wins against challenging opponents. Gilmore took a 1-11 team to 3-8 to 6-5 to 7-4 to 9-3 This is why I bring up having similar standards when looking at Chesney....
