Now there have been 3 Herrens who will have left BC after starting their careers there... Chris Jr should have gone the Ivy/Patriot route imo....

Don’t discount the impact Corona has on kids/families/parents wanting to keep their kids closer to home. Family reactions after 9-11 was to grab the kids and keep them close

There could have been no clearer message to Sandy than not playing one minute for a 3-29 team that was blown out on a fairly regular basis.

Perhaps Nelson did him a solid by not playing him affording him a redshirt elsewhere.

There could have been no clearer message to Sandy than not playing one minute for a 3-29 team that was blown out on a fairly regular basis. And for that reason I have a real concern about Nelson- if I was the AD he would be dressed down for a few of his decisions contrary to BBC and this delusional nonsense about culture- this action destroyed any notion of culture and perhaps a reason the portal sees more players from Holy Cross than any other institution culture is built on trust and respect - so far that doesn’t appear to be part of this team. I give the six contributors a ton of credit, but wonder how they really feel about a coach that divided the team into you matter and you don’t There were plenty of games to throw a couple of the kids a minute or two ( about 10 games this Year)-his decisions are questionable but his right to make he needs to make the future about the team, be accountable for his actions, and realize he is only a part of the team and it is not about him( common for a first time HC) it must be a good day because I feel better having called balls and strikes on what we saw this year-talent matters but so does coaching

I would not have subbed the way Nelson did, but all potential walkons are told not to expect ANY game time. It may happen but their main job for getting a roster spot is to be a practice player. They know this from the start.

Agree with the understanding the end of a bench/WO have when they sign on But 25-50 point blowouts can be a way to say to a player, on a team with a short roster, what you do matters and your teammates appreciate your being part of this.

If Sandy DID have a scholarship (never knew he did), at some point there was a deal in place to keep him out so he didn't lose a year of eligibility. Had to be! You wouldn't play a guy with a ride AT ALL?

Well I heard Tom Brady is also in the transfer portal. It just keeps getting worse. . .

You wouldn't play a guy with a ride AT ALL? In the Patriot League, he would still lose a year of eligibility if he were just held out. It has to be a season-ending injury.

I'm assuming he and Nelson knew he was moving on and not to Bucknell or one of our other fine PL institutions. I don't expect any of these fellows to be playing Division 1 basketball anywhere. Except Lowder.

Either way he didn’t see a future at HC
A decade ago you wouldn't have seen players walking a way from the HC experience and education. It is either a generational issue or the product has changed and no longer valued.
I will go with generational case

Please correct me if I am wrong, but my take would be that scholarship vs walk-on status has no bearing on a player’s transferring, red shirt, sit out a year rules.

I’m still in disbelief Sandy was a scholarship player. Why? Not like there's a body of college work to judge his playing ability as to whether he is/was full-boat worthy.

Only other offer was from St. Mike’s and he didn’t play once for a three win team. My guess is there won’t be one D1 program that offers him a scholarship.

Lincoln might be headed to Hopkins D 3 Close to home-upgrade in academic reputation- will make the tournament- plenty of minutes. His other local option is to go to Mason and try to play for Dave

Also, Nelson is doing everything he can to build a program. I’m sure he soon realized after the first month or so of the season that Hargis, Verbeek et al simply wouldn’t be able to contribute meaningfully — that scholarship would be better off used on other players. This is Nelson’s livelihood, so I don’t fault him for doing everything in his power to get the best and most talented guys into the program. This, of course, goes back to the Lowder drama mid-year. We will learn next season if Nelson made a grave mistake by not looking to keep him on board. A lot is riding on RJ Johnson. Agree with everything except that next season is make or break for RJ Johnson. This program wasn't going anywhere with or without Lowder as the PG next year, so it's really about where RJ is when he's a Soph/Junior when we should be in a position to start competing again.
