No-one is going to know the numbers but companies are going to downside their offices in terms of employees coming in every day and more people working from home. There are some studies that working from home is actually more productive than going into the office. Why will no one know/estimate the numbers? Fauci and other so-called experts have been estimating on this virus since last March. Yes, more productive at home but due to abnormal 12-14 working hours with no breaks. This has contributed to increased stress, lack of sleep and apparently folks gaining substantial weight. You can make an educated guess but won't know the exact answer for a few years as leasing agreements come to the end...

Yeah, and a friend of mine coaches a volleyball team at Framingham State. Another sport that the Commonwealth has not assigned a serious risk factor to that got shiiiiitcanned.

We also won’t know the exact answers on this virus until maybe there’s a vaccine....or the counters stop counting.

[ What a sad story. Confident many here saw this sorta coming long before the virus hit. The virus, coupled with the incredibly ugly and freightening events ongoing in NYC, Seattle and Los Angeles, has accelerated the timelines of businesses and corporations planning moves out of these cities. Frankly, at this somewhat early juncture, I’m already seeing more ads and outdoor signs for ‘space available’ than I expected.

I wouldn’t want to be a commercial real estate broker nor an investor in same anytime in the foreseeable future.

I wouldn’t want to be a commercial real estate broker nor an investor in same anytime in the foreseeable future. The value of commercial office buildings and the rents they command, particularly in bigger cities, are going to plummet

The only good thing I can think coming out of this mess is that I think it's going to turn the clock back 15-20 years on street and highway congestion. More people will work remotely on a regular basis. More remote learning.
On the flip side, it will be a long time before the push for people to use more public transportation will bear fruit.

Agree...if there is a silvahh lining with this, it's the Boston (and other cities) commute. Growing up in the 70s and 80s, the commute to Boston, even during weekday mornings, was only about an hour from the New Bedford -area. During the last 10 or so years, it's about double that now (pre-Covid anyway).

The bolded statement is wrong on multiple levels. The people making these decisions are attempting to navigate an almost impossible situation exacerbated by a host of bad policy decisions made outside of but have significant impacts on their ecosystem. Unless you are in the room or have knowledge of what's being discussed in the room, you're just blowing off steam. I get that you don't like the decision, but neither do the people who are making the decision. But it's one that has to be made.

True but commercial real estate will take a huge hit. Unum today announced they are pulling out of their brand new building in Downtown Worcester. I think 400 positions now work from home. Real tough spinoff coming from this.
